Yeoju is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Yeoju was a county but was raised to the status of a city in September 2013. Together with the neighboring city of Icheon, it is known as a major center of contemporary South Korean ceramics, and hosts the World Ceramic Exposition every year. Other local products of note include rice, sweet potatoes, and yellow melons. Yeoju is the birthplace of Korea's last queen, Empress Myeongseong.Yeoju's institution of higher learning includes Yeoju Institute of Technology. The Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway passes through the city.

  • 3. Silleuksa Temple Yeoju Si
    Shilleuksa is a Korean Buddhist temple situated against a low hill on the north side of the river Namhan, three kilometers east of Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province, approximately one-hour southeast of Seoul. The only riverside temple in Korea, Shilleuksa is a sacred pilgrimage site and a repository of seven Treasures. A 500-year-old aromatic juniper tree and a 600-year-old ginkgo tree stand on the temple grounds. Founded in circa 580 by Silla Dynasty monk Wonhyo, Shilleuksa was enlarged, burned, and rededicated several times. Shilleuksa was made a prayer sanctuary to the royal mausoleum of King Sejong the Great in 1469 , during the reign of King Seongjong. Often referred to as the wall temple because of an impressive brick pagoda towering high above, Shilleuksa is small by standard measure.

    Korea National Arboretum is an arboretum located in Jikdong-ri, Soheul eup, Pocheon city of Gyeonggi Province of South Korea. Before 1999, the arboretum was called Arboretum Gwangneung. The planting of large forests started during the reign of Sejo of Joseon. He and Queen Jeonghui designated the area for a tomb. The area was devastated during the Korean war.The arboretum includes the white-bellied woodpecker and 900 plant species. The South Korean government registered the forest as natural monument 11, acknowledging its importance.

  • 13. Chiaksan National Park Gangwon Do
    Chiaksan National Park is located in the province of Gangwon-do, South Korea. It was designated as the 16th national park in 1984. The park is named after the 1,288-metre mountain Chiaksan, which in turn had its name changed from Jeokakasan to Chiaksan, meaning Pheasant Peak Mountain, based on a myth about a man who saved a pheasant from being eaten by a snake. The park is home to a total of 821 plant species and 2,364 animal species. Among the animals 34 are endangered, including the Flying squirrel and Hodgson's Bat.
