Zawoja [zaˈvɔja] is a village in Southern Poland located close to Maków Podhalański. It is situated in Sucha County . With neighbouring village of Skawica it constitutes a rural Zawoja Commune. It has 6,200 inhabitants and is often mentioned as one of the biggest Polish villages. It is also very often referred as the longest one as it stretches for about 20 kilometres in a picturesque mountain valley.     Babia Góra National Park is one of the 23 national parks in Poland, located in the southern part of the country, in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, on the border with Slovakia. The Park has its headquarters in the village of Zawoja. The park covers an area of 33.92 square kilometres , of which forests occupy 31.98 km2 . The park includes the northern and part of the southern side of the Babia Góra massif, of which the main peak is the highest point of the Orava Beskids mountain range at 1,725 metres . Opened in the 13th century, the mine produced table salt continuously until 2007, as one of the world's oldest salt mines in operation. The National Park was created in 1981, then covering 23.9 square kilometres. Today, the area of the park has grown to 70.3 km2 , of which 65.91 km² is forested.
