Semigallia, also spelled Semigalia, is a historical region of Latvia, sometimes also including a part of Lithuania. It lies in the middle of the southern part of Latvia. Semigallia is recognized along with Selonia as one region, although sometimes Selonia is perceived as a separate fifth region. Also on the coat of arms of Latvia Semigallia is represented along with Courland , due to the historical connection between the two regions. Semigallia borders other historical Baltic regions such as Vidzeme to the northeast, Lithuanian Samogitia to the south, Courland to the west and Latgale to the east as well as Gulf of Riga to the north.     Bauska is a town in Bauska Municipality, in the Zemgale region of southern Latvia. Bauska is located 66 km from the Latvian capital Riga and 20 km from the Lithuanian border on the busy European route E67. The town is situated at the confluence of the shallow rivers Mūsa and Mēmele where they form the Lielupe River. Average temperatures in January are -5C, and 17.5C in July. Rainfall averages 500–650 mm annually. In previous centuries city was known in German as Bauske, in Yiddish as Boisk and in Lithuanian as Bauskė.

    Jelgava is a city in central Latvia about 41 kilometres southwest of Riga with about 63,000 inhabitants. It is the largest town in the region of Zemgale . Jelgava was the capital of the united Duchy of Courland and Semigallia and the administrative center of the Courland Governorate . Jelgava is situated on a fertile plain rising only 3.5 metres above mean sea level on the right bank of the river Lielupe. At high water the plain and sometimes the town as well can be flooded. It is a railway center and is also host to Jelgava Air Base. Its importance as a railway centre can be seen by the fact that it lies at the junction of over 6 railway lines connecting Riga to Lithuania, eastern and western Latvia, and Lithuania to the Baltic sea.
