Zermatt is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It has a population of about 5,800 inhabitants and is classified as a town by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office . It lies at the upper end of Mattertal at an elevation of 1,620 m , at the foot of Switzerland's highest peaks. It lies about 10 km from the over 10,800 ft high Theodul Pass bordering Italy.     The Gornergrat is a rocky ridge of the Pennine Alps, overlooking the Gorner Glacier south-east of Zermatt in Switzerland. It can be reached from Zermatt by the Gornergrat rack railway , the highest open-air railway in Europe. Between the Gornergrat railway station and the summit is the Kulm Hotel hosting the new Project Stellarium Gornergrat and until 2010 the Kölner Observatorium für SubMillimeter Astronomie KOSMA and before that the Gornergrat Infrared Telescope.

  • 7. Hangebrucke Zermatt
    The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge is the longest hanging bridge for pedestrian use in the world. It is located in Randa, Switzerland and replaced the defunct Europabrücke, which had been damaged by a rock slide. The bridge spans 494 meters , and upon its inauguration in July 2017 became the longest suspension bridge built for pedestrian travel. The bridge runs 85 metres above the ground at its highest point. It employs 8 tonnes of cables, and has a system that prevents it from swinging. The bridge is part of Europaweg, a hiking path between the Swiss villages of Zermatt and Grächen.
