NOTE; Deep Look in to Slavic History (by kovanecky)
Kupało (Kupajło) and Kupała was a first human couple and ancient parents to Slavic People.
Kupajło (male) and Kupała (female) has been a children of the heavenly couple Sun and Moon, in the beginning of time.
In Anno Domini Era, almost all Slavic Nation accepted Christ as they (Good) God, because Christ faith and teaching was close to their own value system.
Unfortunately, after accepting Christianity, Church forced them to accept whole Hebrew mythology, with a basic story about human parents Adam and Eve.
Because early Byzantine Church did not tolerate the concept of Slavic Adam, Church replaced the Slavic name Kupało (Kupajło) to Greek name Iōánnēs , in Slavonic pronunciation - Ivan , in English: John.
The concept of holiday lost original character and was changed from ritual to festival. Despite these changes, in the new celebration some elements of the old ritual remained. They are two elements, the masculine element - Fire (from Sun) and the feminine element - Water (from Moon)
But new festival character brought also a new element, the event get luminaire with fresh herbs, flowers, leaves, as a symbol of a new, nascent life.
Since then, the festival got a brand new name; Ivan Kupała, because strong association with a compound of man and woman, who are joining together for the continuation of human life.
Over long time, the nature and message of the festival has been changed due to Slavic expansion.
Eastern Slavic still remain in the celebration under the names of Ivan Kupała, to be a celebration of life, fertility and prosperity.
However, the Western and South Slavic took a new name.
Holiday name has already been left without a male element, as a Kupała alone. In one symbol of a man and a woman in their unity, where celebrations concerns mainly young people looking for the life partner, and also for fun and joy.
Now, under the influence of Christianity and Judaism, Kupała Fest is often perceived as a pagan cult that is something bad and reprehensible. However, it is only another type of myth that affects the identity of the Slavic Nation, who (in large part) received faith in Christ as their own Triune God, but who not accept Hebrew mythology, considering own myth just right and beautiful.
