Saigon as the city is still frequently referred to be Vietnam’s largest city. It is a fast-paced city full of contrasts as street vendors selling fruit and vegetables can be seen next to glitzy western-style bars and boutiques. Saigon’s history is only 300 years old. In 1859 the city was captured by the French and became the capital of Indochina. From 1956 until its dramatic demise in April 1975 it was the capital of the US-backed Republic of Vietnam. This half day city tour unravels Saigon’s turbulent past and also provides a glimpse into the fascinating variety the city has to offer.

Seeing the sights in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (Cu Chi Tunnels)
The last stop in Vietnam was Ho Chi Minh City (previously Saigon), where I dedicated one day to knocking out the sights in a day-long, very well done, tour. It was the Asiana Link tour company if anyone is interested and they have 5 stars (!) on Trip Advisor. We went to the reunification palace, the war remnants museum, cu chi tunnels and a handful of other places. Highly recommend!

Cycle Rickshaw Tour Of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
Cycle Rickshaw Tour Of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
Quick video of my ride around Saigon and a little bit of conversation with my driver. We started at Bui Vien Walking street and made a loop around the area. We saw the Phuc Long coffee shop!! We saw other things too.. I just like saying Phuc Long! I looked around for a pulled rickshaw but they all seemed to be the cycle type.

Shopping at Sense and Ben Thanh Market | HCMC Vietnam
I could not believe we found an air-conditioned knockoff market!
I was excited to be able to get some shopping done without sweating to death. Sense Market in District 1, HCMC Vietnam, is one of the cleanest markets we had visited in all of Vietnam. It’s not the biggest market, but you can find tier 1-2 knock offs & they have “big sizes” available. Sense Market even as a food court called Asian Food Town that has an awesome selection of Asian cuisine.
Ahhhh. Ben Thanh market. This market is one of the earliest surviving structures of Saigon and is the largest night market in District 1. At Ben Thanh market, you can find everything from household items to souvenirs and knockoffs. Open from 7am-7pm, you can easily spend several hours walking through the maze of stalls.
If you didn’t know, Ace LOVES to haggle in Asia. He likes going back and forth with the sales clerks and is always in search of a new bargain. It’s a competition to him. The object of the game is to get the price below half of what they originally asked for, or lower. Sometimes, I have to walk away. He takes on this persona and accent when he is haggling that grates my nerves. He can get some really good deals though.

Hi, I am Eileen from Belgium, nice to meet you. I started this channel two years ago but was not updating on a regular basis. After making some videos for friends and family, I realized this is something I love to do. I got inspired by some of my favorite YouTube channels such as Travellight, Kara & Nate, The Way Away and the Bucketlist Family. I accepted the challenge to visit all Belgian municipalities and because I love to travel, I do it as often as possible. I just got back from one month in Asia and the next trip is already booked!
Traveling from Bangkok to Saigon, Vietnam
I decided to go to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam for a few weeks, with a main mission to eat, and to make a video about some of the top things to do in the city. Here’s my first travel vlog, traveling from Bangkok to Saigon, Vietnam.
After eating a delicious lunch cooked by my mother in-law, we then caught a taxi to Don Muang Airport, which is Bangkok’s second, smaller airport that deals mainly with budget airlines. We flew with Air Asia this time, and our flight was just under $70 for a one way ticket to Saigon. The flight didn’t take long, and soon we got off the plane in Saigon, ready to explore. Our first step of the journey was to catch a taxi to our hotel. But before leaving the airplane, I withdrew some money from an ATM, located near the luggage claim. So if you need to pull some money right away, there is a Citibank ATM at the Saigon airport.
Make sure you take a legit taxi when you arrive in Saigon. From what I heard, there are many fake taxis and many rip off taxis, but I didn’t have a problem. I just chose one of the reputable companies, and then followed our route on my phone GPS, and I think it was alright - I think our bill came to about the normal price for taking a taxi in Saigon from the airport. Our first hotel in Saigon was at Bizu Hotel, located in the backpacker district of Pham Ngu Lao street. I would say that the hotel was alright, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the area - I’m not a big fan of main backpacker streets. Anyway, we stayed here for the first few days of our time in Saigon, since we had pre-booked, and then we moved to a different hotel called LeBlanc Saigon, which I would highly recommend, and you’ll be seeing more of it in future Vietnam vlogs coming soon.
After checking into our hotel in Saigon, we got ready to walk around. Immediately as you start walking around in Vietnam, you’ll notice the sheer quantity of motorbike scooters that dominate the roads. It’s almost ridiculous how many bikes there are and crossing the street you just have to start going, and all the motorbikes will weave around you. We first walked through one of the central parks in Saigon, and then continued walking and walked through the famous Ben Thanh market. The market was just about closing when we walked through, so we continued walking, but we all began getting really hungry.
Since we were so hungry, and since I hadn't had time yet to research and write down all the restaurants in Saigon that you recommended to me when I asked in a different video (but many video of your suggestions coming soon), we just stopped in at the nearest restaurant we could find, called Xoi Ga Number One, or number one sticky rice and chicken. I really didn’t know all that I was ordering, but we ended up ordering a mixture of different Vietnamese foods, some of which I had tried before and others I had no idea what they were. The food was quite good, and since we were hungry it really hit the spot.
Our first day, traveling from Bangkok to Saigon, Vietnam, was a great day. The flight went smoothly, we got checked into our hotel, and we walked around just a little bit, before finding a restaurant for dinner. Everything went well, and many more food adventures in Saigon coming soon!

LAX to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam
Some times it takes me a while to put the video's together, and in this case, it has taken me close to 9 months to put this video together. I travel to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam back in October 23, 2017. It was my first time traveling in both an Airbus A380 and a Boeing 747. And I was very surprise at how smooth they both fly.
Also, it was my first time flying this long. It took about 20 Hours and 30 Minutes to get to Ho Chi Minh City. I traveled with Asiana Airlines, and since it was the off season to travel to Vietnam, it cost me less than $500 dollars for the round trip ticket. It was a very good deal, that I was not going to let it pass, and I did enjoy my trip. The only draw back, is that for USA Citizen's, we have to get a Visa to travel to Vietnam ahead of time.
Any way, I had to take two different flights. My first leg was from LAX to ICN, it was a 13 Hours 25 Minutes flight. The second flight was from ICN to SGN, it took 5 Hours 30 Minutes.
It was a great trip, I took 3 weeks to travel all over Vietnam.
I hope that you enjoy this video, and as always huge thanks for watching!

Due to heavy rain for days, Hoi An flooded during my trip. It was my first time to experience walking in muddy waters. Some parts of the road were deep, so we ended up riding a boat through the streets. Walking in water is a resistance workout and you're not able to see where you step. Your feet get caught in sunken debris every other block. Regardless, I vlogged it! The flood eventually rose and covered the lobby, dining area and pool. The guests and I were escorted to Danang, one hour north of Hoi An. Watch the action unfold :) Note: Thanks to Nhi Nhi Hotel for getting us to higher grounds!
