Alabama's local shrimp industry in Bon Secour
Watch as we follow a day in the life of one of Alabama's busiest fish market owners, Billy Parks of Billy's Seafood in Bon Secour, Alabama.
Minutes away from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is some of the best local shrimp you can buy.
Did you know that 90% of the shrimp in the USA comes from imports? I'll spare you the details about low inspection percentages, dangerous antibiotics and human trafficking associated with foreign shrimp.
Our neighbors in Bon Secour risk their lives every day to make a living. Long trips away from home, rough waters, natural disasters. You name it, they've been through it. But, they're still here delivering some of the best wild caught shrimp you can get. Billy's only offers domestic shrimp.
At Billy's it's a family tradition. They've been around since 1975 and Billy's brothers, nephew and friends sell their shrimp and other catch to Billy. Fresh crabs, flounder, oysters, shrimp. Their motto is: If it swims... we've got it!
Take a cooler out to Billy's and they'll pack it to travel.
When you're at a restaurant, always ask your server where their shrimp come from. Feed our friends. Eat local.
