Boggy Creek Airboat POV Ride Experience on Lake Apopka in Central Florida (About 30 Min From Disney)
We had the opportunity to ride an airboat for the first time with Boggy Creek Airboat Rides last week! While the company operates most out of Kissimmee, they also are beginning to offer rides in Apopka. There were alligators around, but not nearly as many as you'll find in the morning or in the late afternoon/evening - we recommend riding then if you are looking for more. Airboats can travel much faster than we ever expected, and we look forward to another ride in the future! Lake Apopka is situated about 30 minutes from Walt Disney World.

Boggy Creek Airboat Rides, Kissimmee, Florida, United States, North America
Our wonderful adventure began 24 years ago at a little known fish camp on Lake Tohopekaliga called East Lake Fish Camp. Airboating on the lake was a way of having fun on the weekends with family and friends. The campers visiting the Fish Camp would see how much fun we were having riding our personal airboat and ask us for rides. It didn’t take long for us to see how much they loved nature as much as we did. We asked our wonderful family to lend us the money to purchase our first airboat and was they were crazy enough to do it. We started with one six-passenger airboat in 1994. In the beginning we worked 7 days a week, 16 hours a day including the holidays, without a day off for over two years. We lived walking distance from the Fish Camp, which made it easier, and we would regularly bring home airboat visitors for dinner. There were days in the beginning that we didn’t have any customers and weren’t sure we would make it. Packing meals and eating at the boat dock was common just to have some quality time with the family. The children grew up helping behind the desk, doing homework or spent hours fishing off the dock and collecting frogs and minnows to pass away the time. It took years of talking to journalists, travel agents and tourists to open up awareness that the headwaters to the Florida Everglades actually start in Orlando. We finally were able to convince visitors to give us a chance to experience the “Real Florida” at Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. In 2016 we became more than an airboat tour and changed our name to Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures. We made quite a few additions to the park such as a Native American Village, Gem Stone and Fossil Mine, Alligator Oasis, covered pavilions, tiki bar, swamp photo shack and a great restaurant Boggy Bottom BBQ. The hard work and dedication paid off and Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures has become a “must-see” attraction for travelers from around the world. Our fleet of 12 airboats has taken several million nature lovers into the beautiful wetlands of Kissimmee. We know there are many new airboat companies that have started in the Orlando area and realize you have many choices. However you will find no other company that has the knowledge, safety record and experience in airboat tours like Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures. We couldn’t have done this without family and friends supporting us along the way, especially our dedicated and hardworking employees that are like family to us.

Boggy Creek Airboat Rides, Kissimmee Florida Feb 2013
Been at Boggy Creek Airboat Rides a couple of years ago in March and September,
but thought it was time to pay them a visit again. This time in February. We spotted about 4 or 5 alligators (not all of them on video), and we had the large airboat all for our selves. Almost no tourists in February, so we had the private 30 minute tour (no reservation needed). :)

Boggy Creek Airboat Rides - Night Tour on Lake Tohopekaliga in Central Florida
Many thanks to Captain Wayne, our tour guide and airboat driver!
Enjoy one of four unique airboat adventures and idle along canals to find exotic birds, turtles and the Florida alligator wallowing in their natural environment. Then soar atop the swamp water at speeds reaching 45mph. You’ll feel like you’re flying through the wetlands as you enjoy the best Everglades experience in Central Florida.
Margie and Chris Long started Boggy Creek Airboat Rides as the ORIGINAL airboat company in Central Florida with just one six-passenger airboat in 1994. At that time it was unheard of to stay in the Orlando area and take an airboat ride. The Florida Everglades in south Florida are known worldwide as the location to go out on an airboat tour. It took years of talking to journalists, travel agents and customers to open up the awareness that the headwaters to the Florida Everglades actually start right in Orlando. They were able to finally make visitors realize that with their few precious vacation days Boggy Creek’s central location still gives them a chance to see the “Real Florida” only minutes from Orlando’s attractions.
In the beginning Chris was the captain and Margie worked at the front desk. They worked 7 days a week and even holidays. Their first day off was over two years later. They lived two roads over from the fish camp and Chris would regularly bring home airboat visitors for dinner. Sixteen years later some of their closest associates are people they have met at Boggy Creek, including Walter from Canada, Bob from Georgia, Phyllis from Maryland (who works for us) and even some from the U.K. There were days in the beginning that they had no customers and they weren’t sure if they would make it, packing lunches and dinners and eating at the boat dock to spend time together as a family. Their two children Matt and Lauren spent many hours fishing off the dock and collecting frogs and minnows to pass away the time.
Their hard work and dedication paid off and now they have since become a “must see” location for travelers all around the world. They opened their second location in 1996 to support the tremendous growth. Their fleet of airboats has grown to over eight 17-passenger airboats and four 6-passenger private airboats. Over a million passengers have learned about the Everglades by exploring the Wetlands with Boggy Creek Airboat Rides.
To make sure each customer has a unique and memorable experience they varied their boat sizes offered and also offered a selection of tours. They understand that although there are now many other operators in Central Florida that visitors can choose from their customers know that it takes more than a boat to operate a great company and return to the Orlando area’s first and most experienced tours.

Bees, Boggy Creek Airboat Rides, Kissimmee, Florida, United States, North America
Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants, and are known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. Bees are a monophyletic lineage within the superfamily Apoidea, presently classified by the unranked taxon name Anthophila. There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees in seven to nine recognized families, though many are undescribed and the actual number is probably higher. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants. Bees are adapted for feeding on nectar and pollen, the former primarily as an energy source and the latter primarily for protein and other nutrients. Most pollen is used as food for larvae. Bees have a long proboscis (a complex tongue) that enables them to obtain the nectar from flowers. They have antennae almost universally made up of 13 segments in males and 12 in females, as is typical for the superfamily. Bees all have two pairs of wings, the hind pair being the smaller of the two; in a very few species, one sex or caste has relatively short wings that make flight difficult or impossible, but none are wingless. The smallest bee is Trigona minima, a stingless bee whose workers are about 2.1 mm (5/64) long. The largest bee in the world is Megachile pluto, a leafcutter bee whose females can attain a length of 39 mm (1.5). Members of the family Halictidae, or sweat bees, are the most common type of bee in the Northern Hemisphere, though they are small and often mistaken for wasps or flies.
The best-known bee species is the European honey bee, which, as its name suggests, produces honey, as do a few other types of bee. Human management of this species is known as beekeeping or apiculture. Bees are the favorite meal of Merops apiaster, the bee-eater bird. Other common predators are kingbirds, mockingbirds, beewolves, and dragonflies.
