Here's the Capri video narrative:
Capri is a small Italian island in the Bay of Naples, about 5 kilometers from the mainland.
We visited on a day trip in April, arriving via a fast jet ferry from Sorrento and avoiding the peak summer season, when the island can be overrun with tourists.
Capri is also easy to reach by ferry from Naples.
We arrived at Capri’s main port, Marina Grande, which is on the north coast.
From here you can take boat trips, for example to the Blue Grotto, which is a flooded sea-cave, or you can take a boat to the south coast to see the Faraglioni Rocks.
However, with limited time we decided to make for Capri town, then on to to Anacapri and Monte Solaro.
To get from Marina Grande up to Capri town we took the funicular railway which connects the harbour to the Piazzetta, the town’s main square.
Capri’s two main centres, Capri town and its uphill rival Anacapri, are almost entirely given over to tourism and prices can be high.
Capri is a world-famous beauty spot and it’s also a summer favourite of holidaying VIPs.
The Piazzetta is full of fashionable bars and it’s well worth stopping for an espresso. You might even see one of those VIPs!
The square is dominated by a free-standing clock tower.
Note the tiled clock face.
Capri is well known for its maiolica tiles.
Here they can be seen forming a map of the island.
We boarded a crowded bus to Anacapri and explored the island’s second town.
Walking along Via Giuseppe Orlandi, we saw the Casa Rossa, a brightly coloured house built in the late 1800s by an American colonel. It’s now a museum.
Continuing along this road, we reached Piazza San Nicola and the Church of San Michele, built in Italian baroque style at the turn of the 18th century.
Built on an octagonal Greek cross plan, the church is famous for its maiolica floor decoration depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve. It was completed in 1761.
For an impressive view of the entire floor, you can climb the spiral staircase to the organ loft and look out over the church from above.
More maiolica tiles can be seen nearby, decorating the benches in Piazza Armando Diaz.
The Monte Solaro chairlift is also in Anacapri, and it reaches the top of the 589 meters high mountain within minutes.
From the summit there are picturesque views over the island and across the Bay of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno.
There’s also a great view of the Faraglioni Rocks from here.
These three spurs of rock rise from the sea within meters of the coast and are one of the favourite destinations for boat tours of the island’s coast.
We hiked down from the summit back to Anacapri. The path is quite uneven in places but the walk is well worth it for the changing panoramas.
On the way down, you can see a series of small bronze plaques. Each represents a stop on the Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross.
We headed back to Marina Grande and caught the last ferry back to Sorrento, which left late afternoon.
You can see plenty of this beautiful island in a few hours, but don’t expect to fit everything in.
Next time, maybe we’ll get to the Blue Grotto!

The Island is divided in two important towns, Capri and Anacapri. The first one is glamorous and for renowned its five star hotels, and its famous “Piazzetta”. Blue Grotto, Capri, Italy - Relaxing boat tour. Grotto Azzurra
The Blue Grotto (Grotto Azzura in Italian) is Capri’s jewel in the crown. This legendary sea cave was once the Roman Emperor Tiberius’ private swimming pool. Bathed in an ethereal blue light it is your must see place to visit on the island.
Thinking of visiting the Grotto on a visit to Capri to see the natural phenomenon for yourself or just fancy watching a tranquil, relaxing boat ride, whichever I hope you enjoy the film.
How to get there: The Grotto is located on the north west coast of the island. If you don’t have a car you can either take a boat from Marina Grande or travel there by bus.
A boat tour from Marina Grande will cost you about 26 euros, comprising the trip to the cave, the rowing boat that takes you into the cave and your entrance fee. Allow about an hour and a half. At peak times there can be quite a line to enter the cave. There are various boat tours including a tour around the island.
Alternatively you can travel there by bus. Buses run from the port Marina Grande to Capri or Anacapri. The bus from Marina Grande to Anacapri takes about 20 minutes and 15 minutes from there to the Grotto. Or why not take the funicular up to Capri and catch the bus from there. The ticket office is to the right as you get off the ferry. A day pass “unico Capri” costs 6.90 euros and covers all your island travel except the Monte Solaro cable car. Take the bus to Anacapri, change then take the bus to the Blue Grotto, you can’t miss it as it is the last stop. Walk down the stairs and wait for your rowing boat. If you travel by bus you wont have to hang around waiting for the rest of your party to go into the grotto.
Once you have enjoyed the grotto take some refreshments at the kiosk up above the grotto before taking the bus back to Capri or Anacapri to carry on your sightseeing.
Tips:
Best light is apparently noon until 2pm. Queues reduce after 3pm but the sea can get rougher and sometimes is too rough to enter. Go early to avoid the lines.
You will need to climb into a row boat. Each rowing boat only holds 3 passengers and the oarsman. You buy your entrance ticket at a floating ticket office first, no credit cards accepted so have enough cash. Be prepared to enter the cave you will need to lie down flat in the boat, the boatman will then pull the boat into the narrow opening of the cave with a chain. It’s a tight squeeze.
The rowing boat costs 13 euros each, which includes the 4 euro entrance fee and don’t forget to tip your guide, be prepared for 5 – 10 euros, it will make him happy.
Money saving tip:
Entrance to the Grotto is free on the first Sunday of every month.
The History Bit:
The cave was discovered by the Romans and used by Emperor Tiberius’ as a private bathing pool and temple. A number of statues have been found in the cave and some are still believed to be lying at the bottom of the cave. The cave became abandoned as locals feared it was inhabited by spirits until it was rediscovered in 1826 and popularised by the writer August Lopisch and painter Ernst Fries.
The Science Bit:
Why does the water inside the cave appear to be bathed in an ethereal blue light?
There are actually two entrance holes into the cave, one directly below the other. The small top hole is the boat entrance to the cave. The lower hole is below the line of the water allows light into the cave which lights up the bottom of the cave, but filters out all but the blue light giving the water it’s brilliant emerald blue colour.

Male 1: Welcome to Capri. I love Capri because I can still see the same beauty that has been here for literally millions of years. When I have clients, I get to relive the wonderment of seeing Capri for the first time.
Male 2: I looked at the public transportation here and the impression that I got was that it is very crowded at times. Having a private bus here made a lot of difference, and that is one of the best parts of the tour.
Male 1: I love this tour because it shows you both towns, Capri and Anacapri, and you get a little free time to look at the shops and a few of the sites. On the left, we have the patron saint of our town of Anacapri, Saint Anthony, San Antonio de Padua. Also, you have an opportunity to taste the wonderful limoncello and smell the beautiful Carthusia perfume, which are both local products of the island. The limoncello, it's made out of local lemons, the femminello lemon, which gives us three crops a year. Cheers everybody. Let's have a look at how the perfume is produced. What I love about this tour is that you have the option of going by boat to visit the world famous Blue Grotto.
Female: I learned a tremendous amount, and I'll be able to take that home with me and remember it and cherish it forever.
Male 2: I don't think there's any other rating to be given there, definitely a five, yeah.

Private Boat Cruise From Sorrento to Capri Italy and Back
Private Boat Cruise From Sorrento to Capri Italy and Back.
As it was for our drive along the Amalfi Coast, the size of our small group made it possible to hire a private boat and skipper to take use for a boat cruise from Sorrento to the island of Capri of the Amalfi Coast of Italy. It was a gorgeous day for a boat cruise, the sun was shining and the Mediterranean Sea was relatively calm with just a few small waves. We hopped on the boat early and started cruising along the Sorrento coastline exploring the natural beauty as our boat made it's way toward edge of the Amalfi coast and then out to Capri.
Sorrento is a coastal town on the Mediterranean coast of Italy. It is just south of Naples and just around the corner from the Amalfi Coast.
Capri is an island just off the Amalfi Coast on the Mediterranean side of Italy.

Capri and its Blue Grotto - Italy's Legends by the Sea
Capri was already in ancient times a place for the rich and beautiful. Today Capri is one of the most famous islands in the world. Millions of tourists visit it. But there are in fact still unknown corners on the island in the Gulf of Naples.
Thus, at the very top of Capri, there is a hermit monastery with a view to the Vesuvius. Vittorio Staiano and Carmine Russo have to ring the bells at exactly twelve o'clock. But the way to the monastery is not so easy, a chair lift and a steep path await them; as a reward, a good coffee in the chapel beckons with heavenly peace.
In the hustle and bustle that reigns among them, Michele Balsamo gets his jewel back into shape. He is the proud winner of the Vespa Club. His Ape tricycle transporter with curtains, jukeboxes and romantic lighting has been voted the most beautiful on the island.
The most famous spot of Capri is not on the island, but below it: La Grotta Azzurra. When the sea is calm, Roberto rows tourists into the Blue Grotto in a tiny boat and sings in phenomenal acoustics, waiting for a decent tip. There is competition for the paying guests. Word has long since got around which nationalities are particularly generous and which are not.
Opposite Capri is the Amalfi Coast. Legendary places like Sorrento or Positano lie on the steep coast between Naples and Salerno. Who wants to build on this panorama road, calls Giovanni Bottone. He runs a transport company with mules and is well known. He is in charge of several construction sites at the same time, all of which can only be reached by stairs. It is often necessary to climb over 500 steps. Then only Giovanni's animals carry bricks or mortar. But there are also places where not even his donkeys can get to.
The small bay Conca dei Marini can only be reached from the water. There, the Lauritanos run the restaurant La Tonnarella. In former times the tuna fish were gathered here, since the 1950s they were not seen here anymore. But Jacky Kennedy came as a guest to the bay and ate a pasta in the beach cottage of Umberto. That was the beginning of the restaurant. Today Umbertos young granddaughters run the shop with the difficult logistics and the risk that not one guest will come in rough seas.
The Morvillo fishing family also depends on the weather. They are the only ones on the coast who are allowed to fetch Gamberetti from the sea. Her catch is so coveted that it is sold directly from the cutter. The director of the Marine National Park makes sure that this family remains the only shrimp fisher. He also uses the so-called sea sweeper every day, a floating rust bucket that collects garbage between Sorrento and Amalfi.
Maria Cirillo trains with her rescue dogs in the place that gave the coast its name. She makes Golden Retriever get people who threaten to drown out of the water. But before the work begins, there is a coffee at the bar and a round of cornetti for the dogs. Who knows what will happen on the busy beach?

CAPRI FUNICULAR RIDE UP 460 FEET - ISLE OF CAPRI, ITALY
a funicular is one of the modes of transportation which uses a cable traction for movement on steep inclined slopes...
a funicular railway employs a pair of passenger vehicles which are pulled on a slope by the same cable which loops over a pulley wheel at the upper end of the track. the vehicles are permanently attached to the ends of the cable and counterbalance each other.
they move synchronously :
While one vehicle is ascending , the other one is descending the track.
These particularities distinguish funiculars from other types of cable railways.
the name funicular itself is derived from the Latin word funiculus, the diminutive of funis, which translates as rope.
this railway was opened in 1907 and underwent a renovation in 1958 then again in 1991 and the a four month upgrade in 2018..
the Capri funicular (Funicolare di Capri) is a funicular railway on the island of Capri, in the Campania region of Italy.
The line connects the Marina Grande on the coast with the Piazza Umberto in the center of the island.
It is 670 meters (2200 feet) long and includes a 68 m ( 223 feet) tunnel and a 50m (160 ft) viaduct ,
climbing a vertical distance of 139m (456 feet)..
THIS rail has two cars..
each car can transport 140 passengers each..

Capri Boat Trip, Italy 2018
Capri, Sorrento & Pompeii
A very fast paced, but rewarding day awaits. This ultimate scenic tour includes the most spectacular sites along the Campanian coast, including Pompeii, possibly the most famous excavation in the world. Start with a fast-boat ride to Marina Grande in Capri, a port lined with colorful old fishermen's houses. A funicular will take you up to a terrace with a marvelous scenic overlook of the small island, the coast and the sparkling sea. Walk to the piazzetta, the heart of Capri's shopping and nightlife. You'll visit Augustus Gardens with your guide, or if you prefer, explore the narrow streets, take in the magnificent views, or relax at an outdoor cafe. You'll then continue to Sorrento by jet-foil where lunch awaits. After lunch, you'll have some time to wander the flower-filled streets or admire the high-quality handicrafts for which Sorrento is famous. Head to Pompeii where you'll enter by the sea gate and visit the city's baths, villas, theaters and wrestling grounds. Because Pompeii is so well preserved, you can see many fine details that reveal the lifestyles of the residents, such as mosaic floors and colorful frescoes in some of the homes. Time permitting, visit a cameo factory near Pompeii and browse handmade jewelry.
Note: Tour is not available for winter sailings. During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and very long lines at the funicular. We recommend that you dress in layers and bring bottled water. Tour may operate in reverse order.
BOAT TRIP TO AMALFI *CAPRI & POSITANO*
Hello, Hello
We hope you enjoyed this Vlog, it's one of our favourites to put together as we have looked forward to this day for awhile now.
We started in Capri which we stayed for a week and headed toward the Amalfi, back to Positano then to our fave beach club La Conca Del Sogno.
Let me know what you thought of this vlog, we were terribly sunburnt and my face had broken out with all the different creams I was using which was a pain but we still had a lot of fun in Capri and on this boat day.
See you next week in Puglia make sure to subscribe and thankyou for the support. xx
