2013-03-12 Istanbul Turkey: Cavalry Bazaar Lunch with Minaret Calling
Istanbul's lovely and uncrowded Cavalry Bazaar lies just below the famous Blue Mosque. We had a wonderful lunch with fresh pomegranate juice at the Mesale Restaurant while the calls to prayer from the minarets resounded through the air. Note: I turned the camera in a vertical position for a few parts of the video.

The Twin Minaret Medresa, Erzurum Turkey
The Twin Minaret Medresa (a school for Islamic religious instruction) was more interesting on the outside than inside. Alcoves carved to resemble tents and stalactites. A double-headed eagle (symbol of Erzurum along with many other Balkan countries in medieval times) and dragon heads.
Once a Koranic School, the two minarets were covered in pieces of turquoise (bits and bob remaining) that brought back memories of both Samarkand and Kiva in the Stans. A beautiful example of 19th century architecture...

Istanbul Minarets at Ramadan, Ron Cantrell
We were visiting Istanbul at the exact middle of Ramadan during a full moon. We actually went there on assignment from the Lord to pray in Istanbul and call forth the inheritance of Turkey. As Christians, we believe that the Christian background of Turkey has been buried under rule of Islam through the centuries.
There are over 3,000 Mosques and Minarets in Istanbul. We caught this on video at the call to prayer - 3,000 minarets sounding at the same time...Pray for Turkey, and the Christians there.
Sounds around Istanbul
Various calls for prayer in the city.
Dervish dance at Cafe Mesale, Istanbul, autumn 2008
Cafe Mesale is the most amazing place in the Istanbul thanks to a high quality authentic turkish music played by extremely good local musicians, whirling dervishes performances, and of course good choice of local food and apple-flavored hookah should not be forgotten.
It was a real mind-opening experience.
