Uglic (Russia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Uglic in Russia.
On the upper reaches of the Volga, around two hundred and eighty kilometres north of Moscow, is the Russian town of Uglič. The Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. It was built in 1692 out of stone and replaced a wooden church. Everywhere are illustrations of the mysterious death of the heir to the throne on the fifteenth of May, 1591. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed. Ivan the Terrible had two sons. The eldest, Fjodor Ivanovitch, was thought to be insane but was crowned anyway and was supported by Boris Godunov. As Godunov’s sister, Irina, was married to Fjodor Ivanovitch, his dream of becoming Tsar was almost a reality. When news that the eight year old, Zarevitch, had fatally run into a knife while playing, it caused havoc. Three hundred years later the symbol of the Dimitrijevskaija Blood Church was returned to the place in which the savage deed had taken place. Subsequently, the Romanov Dynasty ruled for three centuries and Uglič became a place of sadness and remembrance of one of the most spectacular events in Russian history.

Russia: Protests continue over planned church in Yekaterinburg
Hundreds of protesters met again on Wednesday night to demonstrate against the construction of an Orthodox Church in a park in central Yekaterinburg.
Police could be seen standing hand in hand to protect a newly erected wall around the construction site after activists destroyed a metallic fence the night before.
Seven people where reportedly detained during Wednesday's protest in connection with the removal of the fence.
Wednesday was the third night of protests in a long-running dispute over the planned church. Demonstrators are demanding the preservation of the park and green spaces in the central Russian city.
St Catherine's Cathedral is supposed to be built by 2023 to mark the city's 300th anniversary.
Yevgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, responded to the recent protests on his Instagram account.
In this situation, one can understand believers, for whom the restoration of St. Catherine's Cathedral in the city is a question that rises from year to year and that still needs to be resolved. One can also understand protesters, for whom it is important to preserve every green tree in the centre of Yekaterinburg.
He called for dialogue between the church and protesters and invited them for talks. Despite negotiations, the authorities ruled that construction should go ahead. The mayor of the city has since promised to create another park at a place chosen together with activists.

LEAD IN:
The mysterious history of the Romanovs, the Russian royal family, seemed to end in 1998, when the remains of Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra and their three daughters were laid to rest with state honours in Saint Petersburg.
In 1918 the whole family was shot dead in a basement in Yekaterinburg.
But just a few days ahead of the 90th anniversary of the royal family massacre, the question of authenticity and rehabilitation of the Czar's family is once again in the spotlight.
STORYLINE:
The funeral service for Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra and their three daughters was held in St. Catherine Chapel in the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, where all other Russian Emperors since Peter the Great lie.
Nicholas II abdicated after the Bolsheviks came to power in 1917. The Czar, his wife, their son and four daughters were detained.

Russian activists storm site of new church
Get free bunus 50$ free:
thank for click About 2,000 people have protested against a church being built on a park square in Yekaterinburg in Russia. Tuesday was the second day of protests in what is a long-standing conflict over the planned church. Activists say building St Catherine's Cathedral on the square will destroy one of the city's few green spaces. But the Russian Orthodox Church says it needs new churches to replace the many that were destroyed under Soviet anti-religion laws. This particular church will be a replica of one such cathedral that was demolished in 1930. It is due to be completed in 2023 in time for the 300th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinburg, Russia's fourth-largest city. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the government was monitoring the situation. What exactly happened? Following a call on social media, thousands of residents got together for a stroll on the Iset River embankment in the centre of the city on Monday. The protesters gathered near a temporary fence that had been erected around a section of the park, marking off the space where the church is supposed to be built. They formed a human chain around the fence and, eventually, managed to topple it, while chanting: We want a square. As the crowds made their way into the park, they were confronted by security guards hired by Russian Copper Company (RCC) - which is sponsoring the construction of the church - as well as some Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters apparently linked to the company's Academy of Martial Arts. Among the pro-church fighters was Ivan Shtyrkov, also known as the Ural Hulk - a professional MMA fighter and head of the RCC's academy. Protests continued through the night, and throughout the following day. According to independent Russian news outlets, several protesters were arrested on Tuesday and taken into police custody. Local news site 66.ru says seven people were arrested, while Russian news agency Interfax puts the number at 10.Why are people against the church? The church has been a source of controversy since plans to build it were first announced almost a decade ago, in 2010. On its website the local activist group in Yekaterinburg says: To build the cathedral they want to destroy the park, which is a favourite place for residents to relax. Others have said that the city is in need of more, not fewer, parks. Nobody is against a church, but everyone is against building one here, one protester told Radio Free . There are lots of churches here... But not much green space is left in the city. StalinGulag: The man not afraid to troll the Kremlin Alexei Navalny: Russia's vociferous Putin critic From 2013: Yevgeny Roizman, the macho mayor of Yekaterinburg Protesters also chanted we want to see the mayor - referring to the city's former mayor Yevgeny Roizman, who was one of few politicians in office who was openly critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Mr Roizman resigned
Travel Russia - Visiting the Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg
Take a tour of Cathedral on Blood Yekaterinburg in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg is not a typical Russian Orthodox church.
This was the site of Tsar Nicholas the II's last moments before being killed during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The church was built over what was formerly the Ipatiev house, where the Tsar and his family were kept before the assassinations.
Therefore, the Cathedral is an imperative part of Russia's gruesome political history.
The golden domes of the Cathedral are standard for this architectural style.
The natural allure of the surrounding Ural mountains provide visitors another motive to visit this crucial monument.
Alexander Column In St. Petersburg
From the creator of the marvelous St. Isaac's Cathedral came this monument to the Russian military victory in the war with Napoleon's France. Named after Emperor Alexander I, who ruled Russia between 1801 and 1825 (during the Napoleonic Wars), the column is a terrific piece of architecture and engineering.
The Alexander Column (Aleksandrovskaia Kolonna), the focal point of Palace Square, was designed by the French-born architect Auguste de Montferrand and built between 1830 and 1834. The monument is 155 feet 8 inches tall and is topped with a statue of an angel holding a cross (the face of the angel is said to be modeled on the face of Emperor Alexander I). The body of the column is made of a single monolith of red granite, which stands 83 feet 6 inches high and about 11 feet 5 inches in diameter. It is a terrific feat of engineering that this enormous column, weighing an incredible 1,322,760 pounds (600 tons), was erected in under 2 hours without the aid of modern cranes and engineering machines.
The pedestal of the Alexander Column is decorated with symbols of military glory. The monument is particularly impressive on a sunny evening shortly before dusk, when the last beams of sunlight are reflected in the polished red granite of the column.
Russia: Putin proposes survey to solve Ekaterinburg church dispute

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested conducting a survey in Ekaterinburg to solve the dispute surrounding the planned construction of an Orthodox Church one of the city’s parks. He was speaking at the Regional and Local Media Forum in Sochi on Thursday.
“The minority should fall into line with the majority. This is the basis of democracy. Anyway the opinion and the interests of this minority should be taken into account too,” he said.
Protestors have taken to the streets of Ekaterinburg for a number of days, demanding the preservation of the park and green spaces in the central Russian city.
St Catherine's Cathedral is due to be completed by 2023 in time for the 300th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinburg.

Kremlin (Russia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kremlin in Russia.
Vasiliya Blazhennovo Khram, Basilius Cathedral, is a landmark of the great Russian metropolis of Moscow. It is the cathedral in which the Holy Wassilij was buried and was built under the command of Muscovite Grand Duke, Ivan the Fourth. His nickname was Ivan the Terrible and he was the first Russian Tsar.Moscow’s Red Square is probably the most famous square in the world but the name Red does not refer to blood, in Russian it means beautiful. Resurrection Gate separates Red Square from Manege Square. Two passages lead through a twin tower and, in front, a zero marks each destination from Moscow. The Facette Palace was the creation of Italian architect Fioravant. It was there that Russian history changed forever when the members of the Russian royal family were assassinated. A symbiosis of both Church and State made the creation of Russia possible and the Kremlin has always been at its very heart!

Take a tour of Historic Yaroslavl in Yaroslavl, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Follow the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers to where they meet, and you will find the historic city of Yaroslavl.
This Russian city has been an economic power since the 11th century, and served as the country's de facto capital in the 17th century.
The medieval churches of Yaroslavl are typically Russian Orthodox in style and persuasion.
In 1763, Catherine the Great ordered a radical makeover of the town that would serve as a model for urban planning across the country.
Yaroslavl today is the result of this urban program, and is thus a beautiful example of Western cultural exchange and influence.
The city's neoclassical style, impressive monuments and historical importance all contribute to its UNESCO World Heritage designation.
