Church of All Saints, Yekaterinburg
In January I visited Yekaterinburg. I got a special look at the inside of the church built on the site where Russia's last tsar was murdered in cold blood along with his family and servants.
Travel Russia - Visiting the Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg
Take a tour of Cathedral on Blood Yekaterinburg in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg is not a typical Russian Orthodox church.
This was the site of Tsar Nicholas the II's last moments before being killed during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The church was built over what was formerly the Ipatiev house, where the Tsar and his family were kept before the assassinations.
Therefore, the Cathedral is an imperative part of Russia's gruesome political history.
The golden domes of the Cathedral are standard for this architectural style.
The natural allure of the surrounding Ural mountains provide visitors another motive to visit this crucial monument.
Overnight procession marks 100th anniversary of last Russian tsar's death
(17 Jul 2018) Thousands of pilgrims began a procession on Tuesday to mark the 100th anniversary of the execution of Czar Nicholas II and his family.
The procession started out from the Church on the Blood, which was built on the site of the execution and was set to end at the site where the bodies were dumped some 21 kilometres (13 miles) away.
The procession was led by Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, which canonised the czar and his family as martyrs.
Russia's last czar, his wife and five children were executed by Bolshevik soldiers in Yekaterinburg 18 months after Nicholas abdicated in the February 1917 revolution.
They had been moved from detention in St. Petersburg to Siberia as the Russian Civil War raged.

Russia: Protesters rally against construction of church in Yekaterinburg
Hundreds of people protested against an Orthodox Church being built in a park in Yekaterinburg, on Tuesday.
Four people were reportedly detained as they tried to sneak through the fence around the construction site. Earlier, protesters tried to break the barrier and threw part of it into the river.
Demonstrators are demanding the preservation of the park and green spaces in the central Russian city. Tuesday was the second days of protests in a long-running dispute over the planned church.
St Catherine's Cathedral is due to be completed by 2023 in time for the 300th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinburg.
Yevgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, responded to the recent protests on his Instagram account.
In this situation, one can understand believers, for whom the restoration of St. Catherine's Cathedral in the city is a question that rises from year to year and that still needs to be resolved. One can also understand protesters, for whom it is important to preserve every green tree in the centre of Yekaterinburg.
He called for dialogue between the church and protesters and invited them for talks.

Church on Blood (Church of All Saints). Ekaterinburg, Russia
Across the street from the Rastorguyev-Kharitonov mansion is the Church on Blood, one of Russia's largest churches. It stands on the spot where the members of the Russian Imperial family and several of their attendants were shot by the Bolsheviks in July 1918. The building where the execution took place, Ipatyev House, was demolished in 1977. During the Perestroika years, pilgrims started to arrive here. A wooden cross was installed in 1990, and later a wooden chapel appeared.
The church itself was opened at the beginning of the 2000s. The design made use of the floor plan of the demolished Ipatyev House. The raised level of the building resembles a church oil lamp. Today, the Church on Blood houses an exhibit dedicated to the events of 1918 and organises art exhibitions.

Russia - Remains of Royal Family Reburied
10:41:05
The remains of two members of the Russian royal family who escaped
the 1917 Russian Revolution and died in Europe nearly 60 years
ago, were returned on Tuesday (7/3) for burial in St Petersburg.
Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich, a second cousin to the last tsar
Nicholas II, and his wife, Viktoriya Fyodorovna, were moved from
Germany to the Peter and Paul Fortress cathedral, the burial place
of Russian tsars for more than 200 years. Leonida Georgievna, the
widow of a great-grandson of Tsar Alexander II, demanded the
reburial, claiming it had been the grand Duke Kyrill's last wish
to be buried in St Petersburg.

The Life And Death Of Nicholas II of Russia
Nicholas II (Russian: Николай II, Николай Александрович Романов, tr. Nikolai II, Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov [nʲɪkɐˈlaj ftɐˈroj, nʲɪkɐˈlaj ɐlʲɪˈksandrəvʲɪtɕ rɐˈmanəf]) (18 May [O.S. 6 May] 1868 – 17 July 1918) was the last Emperor of Russia, Grand Duke of Finland, and titular King of Poland.[2] His official short title was Tsar Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias.[3] Like other Russian Emperors he is commonly known by the monarchical title Tsar (though Russia formally ended the Tsardom in 1721). He is known as Saint Nicholas the Passion-Bearer by the Russian Orthodox Church and has been referred to as Saint Nicholas the Martyr.
Nicholas II ruled from 1 November 1894 until his forced abdication on 15 March 1917. His reign saw Imperial Russia go from being one of the foremost great powers of the world to economic and military collapse. Political enemies nicknamed him Nicholas the Bloody because of the Khodynka Tragedy, alleged anti-Semitic pogroms, Bloody Sunday, his violent suppression of the 1905 Revolution, his execution of political opponents, and his pursuit of military campaigns on an unprecedented scale.
Under his rule, Russia was humiliatingly defeated in the Russo-Japanese War, which saw the almost total annihilation of the Russian Baltic Fleet at the Battle of Tsushima. The Anglo-Russian Entente, designed to counter German attempts to gain influence in the Middle East, ended the Great Game between Russia and the United Kingdom. As head of state, Nicholas approved the Russian mobilisation of August 1914, which marked the beginning of Russia's involvement in the First World War, a war in which 3.3 million Russians were killed. The Imperial Army's severe losses and the High Command's incompetent handling of the war, along with other policies directed by Nicholas during his reign, are often cited as the leading causes of the fall of the Romanov dynasty.
Nicholas II abdicated following the February Revolution of 1917 during which he and his family were imprisoned first in the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoye Selo, then later in the Governor's Mansion in Tobolsk, and finally at the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg. In the spring of 1918, Nicholas was handed over to the local Ural soviet by commissar Vasili Yakovlev who was given a written receipt. Nicholas II; his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna; his son, Alexei Nikolaevich; his four daughters, Olga Nikolaevna, Tatiana Nikolaevna, Maria Nikolaevna and Anastasia Nikolaevna; the family's medical doctor, Evgeny Botkin; the Emperor's footman, Alexei Trupp; the Empress' maidservant, Anna Demidova; and the family's cook, Ivan Kharitonov, were executed in the same room by the Bolsheviks on the night of 16/17 July 1918.
This led to the canonisation of Nicholas II, his wife the Empress Alexandra and their children as passion bearers, a title commemorating believers who face death in a Christ-like manner, on 15 August 2000 by the Russian Orthodox Church within Russia and, in 1981, as martyrs by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, located in New York City.
Nicholas was the eldest son of Emperor Alexander III and Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia (formerly Princess Dagmar of Denmark). He had five younger siblings: Alexander (1869–1870), George (1871–1899), Xenia (1875–1960), Michael (1878–1918) and Olga (1882–1960). Nicholas often referred to his father nostalgically in letters after Alexander's death in 1894. He was also very close to his mother, as revealed in their published letters to each other.
His paternal grandparents were Emperor Alexander II and Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Russia (born Princess Marie of Hesse-Darmstadt). His maternal grandparents were King Christian IX and Queen Louise of Denmark. Nicholas was of primarily German, as well as Russian and Danish descent.
