Dolomites Italy - Hiking and Biking through Unesco Mountains
???? P L E A S E • S U B S C R I B E - ???? ????
Hiking and biking through Italy's Jaw-dropping Dolomites is a must do for any active traveler. The Dolomites is one of the most beautiful and iconic mountain ranges reaching heights of nearly 11,000 feet! These sky scraping mountain tops gave us a reason to lose our breath and not only because of the thin air but also because of their stunnning beauty. We spent and entire week hiking and biking and ziplining through the Dolomites. We traveled this Unesco World Heritage site using the company Backroads, one of our favorite travel companies. We toured the South Tyrol area and visited areas like, Pieve di Cadore, Bolzano, Laghetto di Fiè, Puez-Odle Natural Park, Cinque Torri, San Cassiano, and Dolomiti d'Ampezzo just to name a few. The Dolomites are known not only for their great snow skiing and snowboarding but also for their fantastic summer activities like hiking and biking. Don't worry, they rent electric bikes (e-bikes) and mountain bikes to help you up the mountain.

Italy - Dolomites Trip - Day 6: Alta Via dei Pastori
We continue our trip through Alta Via dei Pastori, having very easy and relaxing day.
It is very interesting to watch this diary now: so much have changed in my mind in only 6 months. I have changed my view on some things, changed my mind around other. I guess there is no stop to personal development throughout the life of a human being.
While making this video, I've also realized that it is bAIta, not bIAta! :D Oh well, another thing learned.

Dolomites Mountains, Italy - Best Travel Destination
The Dolomites are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. They form a part of Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley. The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino. The Dolomites Mountains are true natural heaven, a rich show of the environment with rocks, woods and pastures.
Unesco World Heritage Site - The Dolomites
The Dolomites are a section of the Alps. They are located for the most part in the province of Belluno, the rest in the provinces of Bolzano-Bozen and Trento (all in north-eastern Italy). Conventionally they extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (Val Sugana). But the Dolomites spread also over the River Piave (Dolomiti d'Oltrepiave) to the east; and far away over the Adige River to the west is the Brenta Group (Western Dolomites); there is also another smaller group called Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) located between the provinces of Trento, Verona and Vicenza (see the map).
One national park and many other regional parks are located in the Dolomites. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a natural heritage site by UNESCO. ( source Wikipedia )

Throughout the first world war, this beautiful mountain range served as a key battlefield for the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies.
It was the Italian Alpini vs the Austrian Kaiserjager for control of the northern frontier of the newly established modern Italy.
For this high altitude combat, Over 1800 miles or 3,000 kilometers of trenches were dug up on the Italian side alone.
A labyrinth of caves carved into the mountains served as a pathway, a launchpad, and a resting place for the over half a million highly trained, unfortunate souls who lived and fought here for over three grueling years.
While Austrians bombed from above, the Italians set explosives from down below, and yet more people died from the cold and avalanches than the battles themselves.
We’re in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and at one point, for many people, it was also the most horrible.
Via Ferrata, or iron road, are systems of cables and ladders that traverse some of the most stunning and otherwise inaccessible territory of northern Italy.
Used to aid the movement of skilled troops in WWI, today they’ll help an eager group of bumbling civilians climb through the clouds.
Despite the weather hindering what’s said to be a breathtaking view of the Dolomites, I’m happy with reaching the top, and knowing that there’s warm food waiting back at the lodge.
For lunch its a thick ham and bean soup, finished with affogatos - hot expresso with vanilla ice cream.
and for dinner its a mouthwatering duck carpaccio, life changing lasagna, a delicious veal filet over proccito-wrapped mashed potatoes, and a chocolate tort shaped like the landscapes we just left behind.
It’s definitely a meal worth fighting for, but just maybe not up in the mountains.

The Dolomites are renowned for skiing in the winter months and mountain climbing, hiking, cycling, and BASE jumping, as well as paragliding and hang gliding in summer and late spring/early autumn.

This is the day of the via ferrata! It was quite challenging, and we could go the full path, but still felt very good! And we also saw some mountain animals!
