WE FOUND OUR LISBON DREAM APARTMENT, BUT...
✏︎ AMALIE'S INSTAGRAM:
✏︎ JOEN'S INSTAGRAM:
The last few weeks we've spent most of our time finding our lisbon dream apartment, which means that we haven't been vlogging as much as we normally do.
Actually we found this apartment relatively fast, and even faster we became dedicated to get it.
Turns out getting the things you want in life is not always as easy as one can hope for.
Being from Denmark we are 100% new to the Portuguese real estate market, which is why we learn a lot as we go. One of the things we learned is that most apartments in Lisbon are known as typical Lisbon-apartments meaning that all walls are load-bearing.
This is a massive problem if you like us want to remove walls in order to get bigger rooms. And in our case we want to remove no less than THREE walls, which is kind of big deal.
And in order to have load-bearing walls removed you need to have a license from the so-called Camara Municipale, and that can take up to 12 months. And 12 months we don't got.
Obviously a lot of foreign people who buy real estate in Lisbon face the same problem as us. And there is one thing you can do; get a solid team with competent people, make a thoroughly planned project and file it for approval. And while you wait for the approval you carry on with all the renovation you need.
This is definitely not by the book, but all the local people say it's relatively safe.
For us Danes, however, relatively safe is not good enough, which is why we now find ourselves in a difficult situation.
NEW HERE?

We're Amalie and Joen. A Danish couple from Copenhagen who unlike most people love to travel and see new parts of the world (:-D).
This vlog is all about showing all of these places we explore. We simply can't get enough of exploring.
We hope you'll stick around. :-)

Cheap Hotels In Lisbon Portugal:
Lisbon (/ˈlɪzbən/; Portuguese: Lisboa [liʒˈboɐ] (About this soundlisten))[4] is the capital and the largest city of Portugal, with an estimated population of 505,526[1] within its administrative limits in an area of 100.05 km2.[5] Lisbon's urban area extends beyond the city's administrative limits with a population of around 2.8 million people, being the 11th-most populous urban area in the European Union.[3] About 3 million people live in the Lisbon metropolitan area, including the Portuguese Riviera (which represents approximately 27% of the country's population).[2] It is mainland Europe's westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast. Lisbon lies in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus. The westernmost portions of its metro area form the westernmost point of Continental Europe, which is known as Cabo da Roca, located in the Sintra Mountains.
Lisbon is recognised as an alpha-level global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts, international trade, education and tourism.[6] Lisbon is one of two Portuguese cities (alongside Porto) to be recognised as a global city.[7][8] It is one of the major economic centres on the continent, with a growing financial sector and one of the largest container ports on Europe's Atlantic coast.[9] Additionally, Humberto Delgado Airport served 29 million passengers in 2018, being the busiest airport in Portugal, the 3rd busiest in the Iberian Peninsula and the 20th busiest in Europe.[10] The motorway network and the high-speed rail system of Alfa Pendular links the main cities of Portugal (such as Braga, Porto and Coimbra) to Lisbon.[11] The city is the 9th-most-visited city in Southern Europe, after Rome, Istanbul, Barcelona, Milan, Venice, Madrid, Florence and Athens, with 3,320,300 tourists in 2017.[12] The Lisbon region has a higher GDP PPP per capita than any other region in Portugal. Its GDP amounts to US$96.3 billion and thus $32,434 per capita.[13][14] The city occupies the 40th place of highest gross earnings in the world.[15] Most of the headquarters of multinational corporations in Portugal are located in the Lisbon area.[16] It is also the political centre of the country, as its seat of government and residence of the head of state.

Lisbon tiny flat blends old/modern & perches over city views
João Gameiro took a dark, rundown flat in an early 19th century Lisbon building and used traditional craftsmanship to open it up to the light and views of the city. On a hill in the Lapa neighborhood, the apartment had been neglected and needed work, but Gameiro unearthed an unused terrace and crafted large, arched windows and continuous indoor/outdoor flooring to bring the outside in.
Inspired by the Mediterranean tradition of laying leftover marble to pave backyards and terraces, Gameiro created a Terraco floor using marble offcuts that creates a continuous space spanning the terrace, the living room/kitchen and the bathroom.
On his first visit to the space, Gameiro noticed what looked like a portion of fresco hidden behind paint. After purchasing the property, he uncovered multiple 200-year-old frescos (dating back to the buildings' construction in 1819). He also left exposed the original ceiling beams and one wall of the Pombalino period cage-style wood framing.
Since the flat is at the top floor of a five-story building with only a narrow staircase, the bed was designed in five parts which were carried up and assembled in place. Since the bed occupies the entire second bedroom, Gameiro designed a wooden walkway that flips down from the side of the bed when one wants to access the balcony.

Awesome Lisbon Hostel
There's a Ball Pit in my Hostel!
Check out my Travel Photography Workshops:

It's party season in Portugal, and I'm still in Lisbon and still unable to find time to do some photography. But, that doesn't mean that I'm not loving the city. I'm at the Hub New Lisbon Hostel for my time here, and there's a ball pit for adults in the hostel.
So before our crew went to go out and party a bit in Lisbon, we hit up the ball pit in the hostel.
Then, we took in the Sao Antonio festival, which was awesome.
The next day, Erin and I went out to shoot some photography over Lisbon, although the light was mediocre at best. Still, such a good time in Lisbon. Looking forward to exploring more of Portugal.

Lisbon is Portugal's largest city and capital, with the dreams and romance of the age of sailing. It has long been known as the most prosperous port city since the Phoenician, Greek and Carthage eras. It is under Roman rule in 205 B.C.E. In 704 AD, it is centered on various cultures and histories of Europe, including Islam. Its heyday has evolved into one of Europe's leading commercial cities in the 15th and 16th centuries, and in 1755, the earthquake and tsunami resulted in the painful fate of destroying two-thirds of the city. In 1994, the European Community (EC) was designated as a European cultural city. The neighboring Spain is easily connected by train, making it easy to travel with major European cities along the Atlantic coast.
Belem Tower is the most famous monument to visit with the Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. This white, four-storey building is located near the Tahoe River and serves as a memorial and lighthouse built in honor of the work of Vasco da Gama in the early 1500s. Vasco da Gama is the most famous navigator in Portugal, who pioneered three routes to India in 70 years. At the corner of the building there is a watchtower and the water is submerged at high tide. The first floor was used as a political prison camp until the 19th century, the second floor was used as a turret, the third floor as a watchtower and customs. It has a unique Manuel style, which was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
If you are looking for a tranquillity to relax in a noisy and somewhat busy trip to Lisbon, you should stop by Jeronimos Monastery. The atmosphere reminds of the Spanish Alhambra, but the monastery is grand and colorful, reaching 300 meters in length.
Located at the entrance of Lisbon harbor and built in 1502, it is a masterpiece entitled the most beautiful finished product of Portuguese architectural art. Inside the monastery, there are chapels and churches as well as the tombs of the Portuguese monarchs. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the Belem Tower nearby.
Lisbon's tallest area, the Alfama district, endured the 1755 earthquake and is home to Lisbon's oldest architectural castle, the castle and the cathedral, and the Portas do Sol lookout. Alleys, old-fashioned alleys, tramps, trailing hills, vintage walls adorned with azulejos, washed-off paints and all over the Alfama districts are unusual and special. It is a tourist destination. Portas do Sol lookout point in the Alfama district is the Lisbon sunset point and is always crowded with buskers.
Commerziu Square is the largest square in Lisbon, facing the Tt Pearl River and is one of Lisbon's most beloved venues due to various events and performances every day. A huge statue at the entrance of the square opens towards the Tt Pearl River, and in the center of the square is the horse statue of Don Jose I. Like the twin buildings, the Chesyong and the Naval Headquarters are facing each other and show a great architectural aesthetic.
This is where the huge land mass Eurasian continent, which occupies more than half of the earth, ends in the west. The land village of the continent is Caboboroca. The cape in the village of Hokka, in Portugal, is also called the cape Hokka. As with any land village, the tourist information centers here issue memorial certificates of visiting the western end of the continent. It is a symbol of Europe's edge, but it is located on a sheer cliff and is a popular tourist spot with spectacular scenery. It is often near the beach to shower suddenly, but on a nice day, it is a place where you can leave romantic memories in a beautiful flower field with a wide horizon.
About 100 years ago, a miracle happened in the small town of Fatima, Portugal. The Virgin Mary appeared to three young shepherd boys who played a stone wall. The Virgin Mary, who appeared with intense light, told the children about three secrets and left, after which they went on their own assaulting and praying. Rumors spread quickly, but the children did not finally tell what the secret was. Judging by the rumors to make society unsettled, the administrative chief of the Portuguese put the children in jail, and the children rehabilitated prisoners to prisoners and sang songs together. This is called the expression of the Virgin Mary and is recognized officially by the Catholics. The first day of her appearance was May 13, 1917, and on the 13th of each month for five months thereafter, she said she performed a miracle in front of her three children. On October 13, the last day, the miracle of the sun dancing was shown in front of a crowd of 70,000 people gathered to see it. To commemorate this, a cathedral was built, and numerous pilgrims visit and worship here. The miracle of the Virgin Mary in a small town, it is time to see for yourself.

Portugal (Algarve + Lisbon) - In Another Minute (Week 69)
RE-PUBLISHED (original date: August 26, 2011) -- --
This week we made a dream come true and traveled to beautiful and mysterious Portugal. We visited our friends Marisa and Nuno, whom we had met in Berlin last year. Our first few days we spent in the Algarve: the lovely South coast. Then we drove up to Lisbon: a city full of angles, tiled houses, hills and ancient trams.
Of course, it seems crazy to try to fit an entire country into a one-minute video. But you know I had to try. So as usual, bare with me if shots are too short for you. Just pause, take a breath and enjoy.
The music is a song called Some Other Guy by Jason Matherne of Goonygoogoo Productions (

VW presents a four part series that explores the hopes, dreams and realities of moving abroad.
New Year, new start, new city? Follow DJ, producer and NTS radio presenter Nabihah Iqbal as she explores the opportunities and burgeoning cultural scenes in Lisbon and Leipzig. Despite living in London her entire life, Nabihah is questioning whether it’s still the city for her and she’s not alone. 323,000 people emigrated from Britain last year and with spiralling costs of living, contrasted with the perceived better quality of life elsewhere, it's easy to see why.
In episode one, Nabihah meets creatives who have already made the move, relocating from London to Lisbon, and makes herself at home in the city’s thriving music scene.
