Turkish Food Tour in Istanbul - BEST Kebabs of My Life, AMAZING Seafood, and Turkish Ice Cream!

The first thing we did in the morning in Istanbul was drive over to Beşiktaş to eat an amazing Turkish food breakfast at a restaurant called Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu. From there we took the ferry across the Bosphorus to Kadiköy, where we had an incredible Turkish seafood meal for lunch. Finally, we enjoyed some Turkish ice cream, and the show, and had the most incredible kebab I’ve ever had in my life at Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. It was an amazing day of Turkish food in Istanbul!
1:27 Turkish breakfast at Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu - For breakfast we headed to Beşiktaş, one of my favorite areas of Istanbul, and went to a restaurant known for serving breakfast. The breakfast was amazing, and I ate a dish of eggs with beef and butter. The side dishes were also fantastic. Total price - 29 TL ($9.73)
7:40 Boat to Kadiköy and Kadiköy Market - During our trip so far to Istanbul, we hadn’t had a chance to go to the Asian side of Istanbul. So today, we took the ferry over to Kadiköy pier on the Asian side across the Bosphorus. The views of Istanbul from the Bosphorus were stunning. On the other side, the main thing I wanted to do was explore Kadiköy Market, which was every bit as colorful as I had imagined. The fresh vegetables and seafood were fantastic, and I tried a cup of pickle juice.
1 Week Ago in Mumbai:
12:45 Seafood lunch at Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant - Of all the meals I ate in Istanbul, this was one of my personal favorites, being a seafood lover. Not a far walk from the market, we went to a local family run seafood restaurant called Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant. The owners were really friendly, and I ordered a plate of hamsi (which are anchovies), and I’m not sure of the name of the other dish, but I got Black Sea salmon braised in olive oil and butter I think with herbs and spices. It was one of the best Turkish foods I ate the entire trip to Istanbul. Wow, it was amazing.
20:50 Turkish Ice Cream - After spending some time exploring the Asian side of Istanbul, we took the ferry back to the European side, and since Istiklal Street was on our route, we stopped to have Turkish ice cream. You also see Turkish ice cream vendors playing with their customers, but when you’re the victim, it’s so confusing and funny. They have some serious skills playing with Turkish ice cream. Do you like Turkish ice cream?
23:49 Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant - For our final Turkish food meal of the day, we headed over to Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. Ocakbaşı is a type of Turkish grill, and they served all sorts of different meat included kebabs and lamb chops in particular. We also got a bunch of side dishes and they cooked the kebabs and lamb chops right in front of us within the center of the restaurant. The kebab was the best I’ve ever had in my mouth, with an amazing mixture of minced meat and spices. Total price - 100 TL ($33.55). Thank you to David from for the recommendation.

Vlog #527 Istanbul, Turkey // THANK YOU Latif & Istanbul on Food! We had the most DELICIOUS day eating all kinds of traditional Turkish foods that we had never even heard of before! We LOVE learning about a country and it’s culture/history through it’s food, and this tour is one of the absolute best food tours we’ve ever done! We started out at the local market where we picked up cheese, olives, and bread, then had a massive Turkish feast for breakfast with tea and a few other traditional morning dishes. Next we had breakfast part 2 which was a hearty lamb stew. Other highlights include street mussels, “turkish tacos,” a trip to the sweets shop, RAW meatballs, and making our own Turkish pizza!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
TURKISH FOOD TOUR | Best TURKISH FOOD in Istanbul, Turkey- Pide + Kebab | What TO EAT IN ISTANBUL
TURKISH FOOD TOUR | WHAT TURKISH FOOD TO EAT IN ISTANBUL | STREET FOOD in Istanbul
We're in Istanbul, Turkey! This is one of our favourite cities and we've spent 2 months eating our way around Istanbul to create this series. This 4 part series is about showing you more of the unusual Turkish foods and hunting down where the locals eat. Watch our previous Istanbul series here:
This is our first Istanbul food video. We start with the best pide in the city at a simple pide salonu in Fatih. We love the pide here for its crispy, crunchy dough and fresh ingredients. Next up is a traditional Turkish drink called boza. Boza is a fermented drink made of bulgur, water and sugar. It's commonly drunk in the winter as it's very filling and warming. We sample it at a heritage shop that's been around since 1876- it's said Ataturk drunk boza here once!
Onwards for cağ kebab where lamb is roasted on a horizontal spit, sliced onto a skewer and then crisped up over charcoal. Eaten with lavash (flatbread) and ezme a Turkish salad of tomatoes, parsley, onion and pomegranate molasses, the lamb is absolutely mouthwatering. Our final stop is for a pickle juice at a tursu (pickle) shop in Kadikoy which has been around since 1935. Pickles are a big part of Turkish food culture and almost every meal will include some form of pickled vegetable. We down a pickle juice and some pickles to help us digest all the mouthwatering food we've eaten.
We hope you enjoyed this Istanbul food tour! Thanks for watching and if you want to see more content like this don't forget to subscribe. #turkishfood #istanbulstreetfood #istanbulfood

The Ultimate Istanbul Turkish Food Tour - JUICY Kokoreç, Balık Ekmek (Fish Sandwich), and Lahmacun!
►Check out my Istanbul Travel Guide:
►Subscribe to my videos:
►Camera I use:
Day 10: Istanbul, Turkey - This was one of the best days of eating Turkish food in Istanbul that I had during my visit, and this video is an Istanbul food tour. We started with Turkish breakfast, followed by the famous fish bread sandwich (balik ekmek), followed by kokoreç and midye dolma, and then finally for dinner I ate lahmacun. Although everything was good in this Istanbul food tour, my favorite food of the day was the kokoreç.
00:41 Lades Menemen Restaurant - The first meal on this Turkish food tour was for Turkish breakfast just off Istiklal street. Along with some side dishes, my main order was menemen, which is a type of Turkish egg dish (similar to scrambled eggs) and I got it with Turkish sausage. It came piping hot and bubbling away, and it was extraordinarily delicious, especially with all the other sides. Total price - 34 TL ($11.43) for everything
4:56 Galata Tower - 25 TL ($8.40) per person - On this food tour, we still had to do a little bit of sightseeing, so on our way to the next restaurant, we stopped off at the Galata Tower for an amazing full 360 view of Istanbul. We got there right as they opened, so it was nice and quiet.
Galata Bridge, Eminönü, Balık Ekmek - Perhaps one of the most well known Istanbul street foods is, balık ekmek, a fish bread sandwich. Located in Eminönü, and along the water's edge, you’ll find a handful of boats that grill up pieces of mackerel, stuff them into bread, and serve them with lemon juice. You can sit along the pier, and enjoy your fish bread sandwich, and not only is it good, but the atmosphere is also fantastic. Balik Ekmek (fish sandwich) - 8 TL ($2.69)
10:56 Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar) - If I could choose one of my favorite things to do in Istanbul, it would be exploring the Spice Bazaar which is also known as the Egyptian Bazaar. You’ll find an incredible amount of spices and herbs and flavoring ingredients from around the world, packed into the market. After walking around for a while, Ying and I decided to buy some cherries, and the friendly vendor also gave us some samples of fruit as well. Cherries - 1 kg. for 12 TL ($4.03)
13:35 Süleymaniye Mosque - We were in the general area, so we stopped in at Süleymaniye Mosque, an iconic mosque in Istanbul that dominates the skyline.
15:21 Kral Kokoreç - The next food on this Istanbul food tour is kokoreç, and it’s one of the Turkish foods I was most looking forward to eating in Istanbul. Kral Kokoreç is an amazing, sort of street food stall in Istanbul. Kokoreç is a delicacy of organs wrapped in lamb intestines and grilled. I ordered a plate of it to go alongside some bread and it was spectacular. It was one of the best Turkish food meals I had, I loved it. They also sold midye dolma, mussels with rice and spices, and they were also wonderful. Total price - 29 TL ($9.71) - for everything.
22:42 Grand Bazaar - After that amazing meal, we walked over to the Grand Bazaar, which is not only one of the oldest covered markets in Istanbul, but one of the oldest covered shopping areas in the world. It was pretty amazing to walk around, and admire the shops and the actual structure of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. I think the tea was 1 TL ($0.34).
25:47 Fıstık Kebap Lahmacun - To complete this Istanbul food tour, our final stop for dinner was at a restaurant called Fıstık Kebap Lahmacun (thanks to Culinary Backstreets for the recommendation: to eat lahmacun. At first we started off with aryan and kibbeh, before proceeding onto the lahmacun, pide, and the special fistik kebap. Everything was delicious, but I think I really liked the simplicity and lightness of the lahmacun the best. Total price - 58 TL ($19.49).
And that completes this video of the ultimate Turkish food tour of Istanbul, it was an amazing day of food!

ISTANBUL STREET FOOD will BLOW YOU AWAY!! Turkish Street Food HEAVEN - Adana Kebab + Pickle Juice!
Kemeraltı Bazaar in Izmir:
Iskender Kebab in Bursa :
Amazing street food can be found all around Istanbul! Join us as we continue our Street Food in Turkey tour! Today we are going to be trying some unique foods you’ve never heard of!
For breakfast, we are having a RARE type of turşu suyu, which is pickle juice. We ordered the “mixed” version - with cabbage, carrots, cucumbers and beets. And of course, the pickle juice is SPICY! (5 TRY / 0.86 USD)
Next, we’re visiting a weekly fresh market called Tarlabaşi Pazari which is only open on Sundays. In the summer, apricots are in season, and they are worth trying fresh at this traditional market!
In Istanbul, you can sample delicious cuisine that comes from all over Turkey. This time, we decided on Adana cuisine. Adana kebab is made from hand-minced lamb meat cooked over charcoal. That smokey flavour and juicy lamb is HEAVEN! (35 TRY / 6.02 USD)
If you’ve never tried traditional Turkish ice cream, you are missing out! We head to an old-school shop serving up a chewy textured (made from mastic) ice cream cone. So incredible on a hot Turkish summer day! (4.5 TRY / 0.77 USD)
Next up is a cruise on the iconic Bosphorus, because a trip to Istanbul is not complete without one. We opted for the economic TurYol cruise, a 90-minute tour north that passes palaces, mansions, bridges and plenty of gorgeous sights. For 20 TRY / 3.44 USD, that is totally worth it!!!
Since we were near the Bosphorus, we thought we would try the very FAMOUS Balik Ekmek, or grilled fish sandwich. In a tourist hot-spot, served from a real boat, the sights surrounding the restaurant are why it is so popular. The food however, was not that tasty and isn’t considered a good choice among the locals. We wanted to see what the hype was about. Oh well! (15 TRY / 2.58 USD)

IS TURKISH FOOD GOOD? | Secret Food Tours Istanbul Kadikoy | Turkey Travel Vlog
Time for Turkish street food! We took a food tour in Kadikoy Istanbul with Secret Food Tours and the food we had was some of... ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —
Secret Food Tours Istanbul delivered because this was one of our favourite food tours ever and showed so much of Kadikoy!
Before we arrived in Istanbul, and well before we came to Turkey, we were told how good Turkish food was. It's difficult to know what the best Turkish street food to order is though, it can be a bit overwhelming in the Kadikoy district particularly because of the lack of English.. which we actually love though.
After a bit of research on the best Turkey food tours we found Secret Food Tours in Istanbul, but this one was specifically in the Kadikoy area on the Asia Side - where we're staying as we showed in our last few vlogs. Anyway, the food we tried was insanely good, so we can confirm that Turkish street food / the food of Turkey is next level. Everyone was right haha.
You can see the other food tours we've taken around the world, 15+ featured in this playlist:

Where to eat in Istanbul? Food tour part 2 by Turkish food bloggers
Part 2 of istanbul food tour we show you 1. the best baklava place 2. the best burger and san sabastian cheesecake - Zula 3. iskender kebab 4. lokmata 5. B blok cheesecake
Hey everyone! Being half Turkish I go to Turkey every year to see family ad so I thought I would share my knowledge of where to eat and go (mainly eating) in Istanbul!
SUMMARY OF ALL 3 PARTS
1. Kahve dunyasi means coffee world. It is my favourite dessert shop in Turkey! They make amazing frozen yoghurt, chocolate soufflé and almond pear tarts. They have a factory in çengelkoy which is a café also, it is great to see where they make everything. Out of the icecreams I recommend the milk chocolate flavor as it tastes like creamy Cadbury chocolate
2. Grandma in Tesvikiye is a instagrammable café, it is really trendy. I recommend their big almond crossiant as it as almond paste inside and flaky outside. They do a good oregano bagel with salmon and cream cheese too and caramel cake
3. Çiya Sofrasi, Kadiköy is an authentic Turkish restaurant which is a must see! Get the mujver (courgette/ mint fritters), stuffed celery (dolma) in a cream sauce and their meat stew. Everything is homemade and local but their menu is very creative. While you are in the area check out the food markets
4. On the European side for a special treat head to Çiragan Kempinski (palace) for afternoon tea. It is expensive but it is a really posh place with great views of the sea and there is live music. If afternoon tea isn’t your thing, you could order a selection of desserts which is cheaper.
5. Midyeci Ahmet is a very popular mussel place in Turkey! They sell a special type of stuffed mussels with spices and herbs, with lemon juice it is out of this world.
6. Zula is my favourite burger place of all time! They have 2 places one in Kanyon shopping centre and one in Harbiye Çayriri. Their burgers are cooked to perfection and are served with truffle mayo, relish and cheddar cheese. But they also do something else… SAN SEBASTIAN CHEESECAKE! It is a must try, the cheesecake is unbelievable! It is so creamy and not too sweet, it doesn’t have a biscuit base
7. Spice bazaar is a must see, full of colourful spices and bright gold jewelerry, it is a greay place to find a present
8. Hagia Sophia, which originally was a church but the Ottomans changed it into mosque. It is great for taking photos and buying roasted chesnuts and sweetcorn
9. Grand bazaar, one of the oldest shopping centres in the world
10. Karaköy Güllüglu, Kadiköy for authentic baklava this shop sells the best. They sell walnut and pistachio baklava in all different shapes and sizes
11. Istanbul modern to see up and coming artists
12. Iskender Kebab uses good quality meat which is thinly liced served with tomato and pepper. The waitor then comes and pours hot melted butter over it. This is the best place to eat kebab
13. Haci Abdullah is another authentic Turkish restaurant opened in 1888. Be adventurous in what you try!
14. lokmata is modern trendy lokma! There are always queues but it is so worth it!. They fill the lokma with a cream and pour melted chocolate over it! When I went they had a little ginger cat which sits there and welcomes the visitors
15. B Blok for san Sebastian cheesecake, it is not as good as Zula but still good, again there is always queues
16. Asuman, Kadikoy serve strawberries in hot milk chocolate in glass jars. People take them to the sea then return the pots afterwards
17. Princes Islands, Bükükada. There are 3 islands I have visited the biggest one. It is a lot quitter and makes a nice change. There are a lot of fish restaurants and you can ride on horse and cart to get around the island. There are some really nice houses to look at. I went to Allibaba restaurant but it wasn’t that great at all and really expensive so I recommend to bring a picnic instead
18. Pizza Locale serve authentic Italian pizza restaurant. I recommend the truffle pizza, it is packed full of mushrooms
19. Vero Gelato, Bagdat Caddesi is a small gelato shop they use fresh local seasonal fruit and do a few sugar free options using dates to sweeten it.
20. Grön Kafe is a scandanavian café and do great smoothie bowls with nuts and granola on top. What is really cool is that they have a place to sit that is high up so you need to climb a ladder
If you want to see these places live check out the 3 videos below!
