Castle For Sale in Michigan, USA
STEP INTO THE CASTLE AND step back in time to a home modeled after a fifth-century castle built near Nuremberg, Germany. The Castle was crafted during the 1920s in Jackson, Michigan, by the eccentric violinist Max Helmer. Helmer was the local Liberace of his day, a wealthy musician who inherited a large estate from his father, a prominent Jackson banker, Fred Helmer. Helmer fell in love with medieval structures while touring Europe in the 1920s as a concert violinist. The Castle was designed for seclusion, but enjoys beautiful views on one of the most elevated points in the area.
Builder C.J. Jorgensen crafted the tower using fieldstone from the surrounding region. More than 500 tons of rock and 300 barrels of cement were used to build the first five floors. Jorgensen used horses, nine helpers and a crane. The tower walls are 3-feet-wide at the base, and are tapered to the top. Beneath the structure is a customary castle feature, a dungeon, entered through a trap door on the first floor. The Castle has been renovated to seamlessly conjoin the old and the new, the pinnacle of which is the 3-story addition completed in 1942. This project added a great room, master suite, family room, and modernized kitchen to the property; thus, bringing the home in line with contemporary living while maintaining its historical charm.
A History of Family, Friends, Adventure and Escape: When the, then newlywed, current owners decided to move from the Detroit area to a more peaceful, slowpaced location to raise a young family - their wildest dreams couldn’t have prepared them for what they discovered.
The Castle they found hidden on the highest point of Jackson County in Lower Michigan (National
Geological Survey Market on-site) proved to transform both the place and their family in an almost magical
way. The unique setting in which to raise a family and the inherent responsibility to continue the fascinating
history of the property, proved to be a bonding experience and the quest of a lifetime for the current owners.
Early years at the Castle for this family were spent together pruning, clearing and landscaping the grounds for
year-round fun outdoors. Undertaking countless renovations and restorations, which transformed the property
from the original medieval vision of the eccentric Max Helmer into what is now a truly unique modern
home.

DETROIT - UNDERGROUND RAILWAY - SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH
The most amazing discovery I made on the edge of Greektown in downtown Detroit was Second Baptist Church. Because I have a strong interest in black history and negro spiritual music this church immediately piqued my interest. The historical plaque said it was the oldest black congregation in Michigan. Further investigation revealed that the church was a STATION in the famous UNDERGROUND RAILWAY that was a conduit for escaping slaves to reach Canada among other places. Proximity to the Detroit River made this station the last stop before Canada extremely important.
Fox News Link:
The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19th century, and used by African-American slaves to escape into free states, Canada and Nova Scotia with the aid of abolitionists and allies who were sympathetic to their cause. The term is also applied to the abolitionists, both black and white, free and enslaved, who aided the fugitives. Various other routes led to Mexico or overseas. An earlier escape route running south toward Florida, then a Spanish possession (except 1763–83), existed from the late 17th century until Florida became a United States territory in 1821 (ending the safe haven for escaped slaves was the main reason Florida changed nationality). However, the network now generally known as the Underground Railroad was formed in the late 1700s, and it ran north to the free states and Canada, and reached its height between 1850 and 1860.[6] One estimate suggests that by 1850, 100,000 slaves had escaped via the Railroad.
The Second Baptist Church, located at 441 Monroe Street within Greektown in Detroit, Michigan, is the oldest African-American church in the Midwestern United States. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1974 listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
The church was organized in March 1836 by 13 former slaves who left the First Baptist Church due to discrimination.[4] Second Baptist was Detroit's seventh major church.[3] With the Detroit River and Canada's border only a thousand yards away, the Second Baptist Church quickly undertook the mission of helping free slaves and constructed a room under the sanctuary where escaping slaves stayed until they could continue their journey.[5] Church leaders assisted in creating the Amherstburg Baptist Association and the Canadian Anti-Slavery Baptist Association, each of which were abolitionist groups in Canada.[4] From its founding until the end of the Civil War, the church served as a station on the Underground Railroad, hosting some 5,000 slaves before their eventual departure to Canada.[3]
Second Baptist also opened the city's first school for black children in 1839,[3] and in 1843 and 1865 hosted a State Convention of Colored Citizens to petition the Michigan government for Negro Suffrage.[4] Ralph Bunche, who later became the first African-American to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, was baptized in the church. Second Baptist was instrumental in the formation of over 30 other African-American churches.
the Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church is Reverend Dr. Kevin Turman earned his B.A. in government from Harvard College. He also holds a master's degree in divinity from Yale University and a doctorate in ministry from the United Theological Seminary. Turman is the senior pastor for the Second Baptist Church of Detroit. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Spirituals (or Negro spirituals are generally Christian songs that were created by African Americans.[3] Spirituals were originally an oral tradition that imparted Christian values while also describing the hardships of slavery.[4] Although spirituals were originally unaccompanied monophonic (unison) songs, they are best known today in harmonized choral arrangements. This historic group of uniquely American songs is now recognized as a distinct genre of music.
The term spiritual is derived from spiritual song, from the King James Bible's translation of Ephesians 5:19, which says, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.[6] Slave Songs of the United States, the first major collection of negro spirituals, was published in 1867.
Musicologist George Pullen Jackson extended the term spiritual to a wider range of folk hymnody, as in his 1938 book, White Spirituals in the Southern Uplands, but this does not appear to have been widespread usage previously. The term, however, has often been broadened to include subsequent arrangements into more standard European-American hymnodic styles, and to include post-emancipation songs with stylistic similarities to the original African American spirituals.

See Top Secret Bunker Where 7,000 Americans Will Go in Event of Nuclear Bomb
A new book is highlighting some of the top-secret locations in America that could serve as a de facto White House in the event of a nuclear strike. A bunker built into a hollowed out mountain in Colorado is just one of the covert shelters where 7,000 Americans will go to in the event of nuclear annihilation, according to Garrett Graff, the author of 'Raven Rock: The U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself While the Rest of Us Die.'

Greater Detroit Hospital Exploration w/ Harrowing Escape
In this adventure, we explore Greater Detroit Hospital on the outskirts of Hamtramck. This hospital has been abandoned since 1999. One half of the hospital has become a school while the other half sits abandoned. It is still filled with patient records, blood samples, biopsies, bacteria cultures and used medical equipment. I think it goes without saying that this is an extremely dangerous place to explore. Besides it being illegal, there are plenty of places for people to hide and we found numerous signs of recent human activity.

Chicago residents face life-threatening low temperatures
The deadly arctic deep freeze wreaking havoc across the United States has left at least seven people dead with record-breaking low temperatures halting postal services in the Midwest and cancelling more than 2,500 flights.
Two people died in Detroit, Michigan after temperatures started plummeting late Tuesday as forecasters issued grave warnings that one of the coldest spells in history would be life-threatening.Police found a man's body across the street from his home in the Detroit area on Wednesday. He was not wearing a hat or gloves and wasn't dressed for below-zero temperatures. A 70-year-old man was also found dead in Detroit in front of a neighbor's home on Wednesday. The polar vortex in the Midwest came on the heels of major Winter Storm Jayden that dumped up to a foot of snow on the region over the weekend and was to blame for at least five deaths. A 55-year-old man froze to death in his Milwaukee garage after he collapsed shoveling snow, a man was fatally struck by a snow plow in Chicago, a nine-year-old died in an Iowa pile up and a young couple were killed when their SUV struck another on a snowy road in northern Indiana.Officials have warned that the freezing temperatures will only become more life-threatening overnight on Wednesday. Forecasters advised against breathing deeply or talking while outside and warned that frostbite and hypothermia issues could occur within seconds. On Wednesday biting temperatures even caused Hell -a small town near Michigan- to freeze over, which prompted much discussion on social media.
The unincorporated community, which is unsurprisingly subject of meteorological and winter jokes, had temperatures below zero on Wednesday afternoon with wind chills temperatures that were even colder.
