FRIM Canopy Walkway KL
The FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia) Canopy Walk is well worth doing if you have the time and inclination during a visit to KL.
I got there by taking a train to Kepong station and then a taxi from the nearby taxi rank on the main road, just down the first street to the left after leaving the station.
The driver asks for 10 MYR to drop me off at FRIM and 15 MYR to come and pick me up at an agreed time. This is a quite reasonable fare given the distance and convenience.
There is an admission fee for foreigners of 5 MYR at the main entrance to FRIM, an enormous complex really. When the taxi driver drops me off he gives me his mobile number and tells me to call an hour before I'm ready to be picked up.
I'm dropped at the Kafeteria and have to walk back to the Souvenir Shop to by my Canopy Walkway ticket for 10 MYR (5 MYR for locals) and am given a map of the walk and some fairly abrupt and vague instructions as to how to get there.
I decide on some breakfast before starting but the local Kafeteria has no appealing options at all. I settle for roti telur with dahl and a teh tarrik which are nice enough and quite cheap at 3.50 MYR.
The way to the Canopy Walk is quite well marked though; turn right at the Masjid Jamek (Mosque) with the arrow pointing this way for Canopy Walk. The trail becomes a wide dirt track after a small toilet block (squat only) and then winds uphill for about 500 metres before a sign points to a steep and narrow walking trail up the side of the cliff, saying 300 metres to the Canopy Walk. The trail is manageable in the dry but would be very treacherous if it had recently rained.
I find myself becoming breathless and quite stretched during the walk up the larger trail from the Mosque but older locals are walking along this track and most say hullo or good morning. The steeper, narrow track is much more testing and quite tricky in spots. There are a couple of resting places along the way and after about 45 minutes of quite hard walking I am at the base of the canopy walk hut.
There is a man who checks tickets and lays down the basic rules of not swinging, staying 2 planks behind the person in front and generally behaving responsibly. The Canopy Walk is quite breathtaking with the view down causing a little bit of vertigo and requiring a lot of trust in what appears to be aluminium ladders covered with wooden planks and lashed to metal lines that are anchored to trees.
There is mesh netting the whole way along each section so it would be virtually impossible to fall off. There are 2 straight legs at the beginning and end of the walk and 3 sections that have a resting spot in a large tree with one having capacity for 4 people only, another for 8 and the final one, no specific capacity mentioned.
The walkway sways quite easily but being alone cuts down any risk of things getting out of control. Not long after I start there is a group of school kids who start the walk and by the time they catch up to me I'm at the final resting point before the last leg back to another hut with steep steps back to the ground. Some of the kids, probably in the 10 to 12 year old range, were terrified and could not wait to get off.
FRIM Canopy Walk KL - Full HD
It is a 150mtr long walkway that is built 30m above ground level.
Originally built for its researchers and scientists to study above-ground flora and fauna more effectively, this walkway is opened to public whereby visitors will literally feel like they are hovering above the forest grounds, taking in views and landscapes that is unbeknown to the eye at ground level. You can even see a glimpse of Kuala Lumpur's skyline if the skies are clear.

There is a Canopy Walkway at Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). Here you can enjoy views over Kuala Lumpur while walking of the tree canopy. The Canopy Walk is located at 500 meters on a hill, and the walkway itself is spanned some 30 meters above the ground. Tickets are for sale at the souvenir shop (D5) down at FRIM HQ for RM10 per person.
Canopy Walk at KL Forest Eco Park | WHAT TO DO IN KUALA LUMPUR
When you think you need to go far to escape to busyness of Kuala Lumpur... think again! Drop by the KL Forest Eco Park - gazetted as a forest reserve in 1906 and is one of the oldest in Malaysia - located in the heart of the city centre.
During my short walk, I entered through the Jalan Bukit Nanas entrance, although you can enter through the Menara KL entrance.

FRIM Jungle Trekking and Canopy Walk 2017
A short getaway to FRIM before the canopy walkway close down for good after 25 years of service. Whole jungle trekking and canopy walk takes about 3 hours to complete.
Located at Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve at about 300 meter above sea level, this famous attraction was constructed in 1992 for the purpose of scientific study of flora and fauna. This walkway system spans for 150 meter and is suspended between trees at approximately 30 meter above ground level. This walkway system and platforms are vantage points to experience a panoramic view of the forest and Kuala Lumpur area from a distance. The canopy walkway is opened to the public from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm, with the last batch of visitors to go up at 1.30 pm. It will be closed on Friday. (FRIM, 2017)

Canopy Walk at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)
Lyvonn and I have been hitting the gym since we got back to Malaysia. We're getting ourselves in shape for our impending overland trip back to London. We decided one they that we'll have a little excursion from our little fitness regime. So off to Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) we went.
Lyvonn has never been to FRIM before, whereas in my case only a couple of times. FRIM is a popular spot for walks and also it's canopy walk. And since Lyvonn haven't been on a canopy walk before, we thought it was a great idea to go for one. Afterall, we are in tropical country Malaysia.

Tree Top Canopy Walk @ KL Forest Eco Park | Best Free Thing to do in Kuala Lumpur (2019) BUKIT NANAS
The KL Eco Forest Reserve is a great place to experience a bit of nature and greenery in the middle of KL. Entry is totally free and you can walk along the ground paths or the canopy walk. Both are really cool and completely safe. The park is small, the walk can be done in about 30 minutes. But it's still super nice and absolutely worth it.
Also known as Bukit Nanas KL Rainforest, located directly below the KL Towe(a.k.a. Menara KL). This city jungle is very special as it is the only patch of rainforest still preserved in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City. Despite being in the heart of the city centre, you wouldn't know it.
The rainforest and KL canopy walk is free. KL Forest Eco Park (Bukit Nanas) has to be the best free thing to do in Kuala Lumpur!
At the end of the canopy trail, you will find yourself right at the base of the KL Tower (a.k.a. Menara KL Tower!. It is the 7th tallest tower in the world, definitely go up and see the best views of the cityscape.

Bukit Nanas KL forest ECO park, forest reserve, canopy walk
There is a small jungle in Kuala Lumpur's heart, under the KL tower.
Bukit Nanas KL forest ECO park, forest reserve.
The park is wonderful, this is a real jungle. The canopy walk in the park is very nice experience, you can observe the vegetation from above.
You can find many many walk ways in the park, so you can spend a lot of time there. You can hear the birds, admire the plants and if you become tired, you can rest on the benches.
I recommend the canopy walk for who are using wheelchair, because the canopy walk's a big part is wheelchair accessible too, as you see on this video. Thank you for thinking about it!
In this case, use the upper parking at KL tower (BUS parking side), because by the entrance there is a good ramp for wheelchairs.
However, there are lot of mosquitoes because everything is very wet. I recommend you to use some mosquito spray on your body.
VISITING HOURS
Opening hours are from 7 am to 5 pm daily
Entrance is FREE at the moment. (2017 June)
Enjoy this video, visit the park and,
Enjoy the Discovery
