Video of 7 Gilman Lane | Orleans, Massachusetts (Cape Cod) real state & homes
- Most of us long for a sense of permanence that is best typified by a deep connection to the natural world. That spirit of place and permanence may still be found on historic Barley Neck in East Orleans at 7 Gilman Lane, where the essence of Cape Cod as it used to be has been preserved in perpetuity for one very fortunate new homeowner to savor at leisure, choosing to act as steward of a property that retains all the treasured elements of a pristine marine environment.
The waterfront home resonates throughout with the vision of its famed Bauhaus-influenced Boston architect, Nathaniel Saltonstall, a Modernist who dared to create dwellings that followed function and form with this priority: that they be perfectly integrated with their surrounding environment.
Upon entering the home and spacious living room, one is immediately rewarded with a panoramic vista of world-famous Nauset Beach and the Atlantic, the vast Pochet Island Conservancy, and the tranquil waters of Pleasant Bay's estuary, Pochet Inlet. The extremely varied one-of a kind vista is a very rare one indeed... completely free of signs of human impact! Only the myriad shore bird species that fill the lenses of one's binoculars change with the tides!
The genius of the home's spare design lies in vaulted, airy spaces radiating from a central peak. Smoothly hewn California Redwood beams support cathedral ceilings throughout the home, and the virtual wall of glass in the living room captures every nuance of native vegetation and the salt-water world beyond.
The large, thoughtfully appointed kitchen's color palette perfectly reflects the subtlety of the ocean, and also adds another dimension…a breakfast bay with a view of lush gardens and the colorful songbirds that frequent them.
The home's design, everywhere sensitive to the marine environment, brings the broad water view inside the master bedroom, with its fine wood built-ins, sauna, and large master-bath with Jacuzzi tub… and its connected 3 season sun-porch…again, boasting marvelous water views.
The home enjoys central air conditioning and heat by natural gas throughout, and a whole house generator is powered by always-available natural gas.
Moving to the southern wing of the home, a large office with custom-built cabinetry by one of Cape Cod's finest master craftsmen offers the homeowner a wealth of choices…. family room, office, media room retreat…the choice will be yours! Access to this large and valuable space is through a brick-paved greenhouse atrium that captures just the right amount of solar gain for plants to thrive through the usually mild Cape Cod winters.
Guests or family will appreciate the privacy two additional bedrooms provide shared en suite with their own full bath. Again, vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms provide soft natural light and a sense of tranquility that imbues the home.
Kayakers and fishermen will be thrilled to find a quiet landing abutting the property that provides immediate access to the extensive salt-water Pleasant Bay basin, including its vast enclosed network of fabled islands, ponds, and marshlands.
7 Gilman Lane is a classic retreat and a sanctuary. a home to gently mend the soul, but the world beyond beckons! Nauset Beach and its miles of surf, sand, and recreational pursuits; Rock Harbor and its daily parade of charter fishing boats bringing catches of striped bass and succulent bluefish to the docks; and the fine restaurants and shopping pleasures of the quaint villages of East Orleans and Orleans are just a bike-ride away. And the treasure that is the Cape Cod National Seashore, the Cape Cod Bike Trail, and the highly individual villages that dot the Cape are also all around you.
Savor it all!
You'll always have 7 Gilman Lane to come home to.

Started from Boston Davis Square, we visited Harvard University, architecture school, then to visit the Original Dunkin Donuts Shop. Drove pass Quincy then towards Plymouth to visit the famous ship and stone of the early pilgrims first landed in the US. Drive to Cape Cod to Provincetown, saw the white sand dunes and beach. A fisherman trying to catch fish all day and finally caught one and we were there just in time to see his fresh fish.

Diving Little Brewster Island, Boston Harbor - Part 1
September 2016 - Little Brewster Island, Boston Harbor Islands, Massachusetts
Beautiful diving along Little Brewster Island on a stormy day in Boston Harbor. The first part of the footage was filmed during the surface interval, as we move the boat farther away from the island due to the storm.
After it passed and we got the go-ahead via radio, we did a second dive. Visibility was actually really good for the area (~20 feet) once down the line about 20 feet, max depth around 45' ~ (14 m).
