Bath Abbey
Archaeologists have discovered a stunning 13th century tiled floor during renovation works for Bath Abbey’s Footprint Project. The vividly coloured tiles were discovered around 2m below the current Abbey floor level and have not been seen in 500 years. They give a unique glimpse of what the interior of the grand Norman cathedral, which once stood on the site, would have looked like.

Jane Austen in Bath
My expectation going to Bath was to experience a feeling akin to a Jane Austen heroine. While there were resources like the Jane Austen Museum in Bath, a lot of the 'genuine romantic experience' came from acted upon imaginings. At the Jane Austen museum I interviewed two tour guides who shed some light on the way Americans specifically act when coming to this place of literary association. To my surprise I discovered one of these women was American herself.
What is Footprint?
Bath Abbey has gone through many changes over the last thousand years with each new era bringing a constant need for change and renewal. Today, there is a massive strain on the Abbey building and its resources created by hundreds of thousands of visitors, a thriving congregation and the local community who use the Abbey every day. In order to meet these demands and ensure that the building is maintained for the future we have come up with a solution. The solution is called Footprint. So, what is Footprint and how will it help the Abbey?

MARK & JESS VISIT BATH
Despite Jess being under the weather, we took a drive down to Bath and spent the day exploring the beautiful city of Bath.
We had a late breakfast at Wild Café, I had the Veggie Brekkie which was so good! Jess had the pancakes with banana and berries and that too looked delicious. It was a great little spot and we’ll be back again soon I’m sure.
Afterwards we looked around the shops on Milman Road, grabbed some sushi for lunch, stopped by Pulteney Bridge so I could take lots of photos and then walked up to the Royal Crescent and froze to death whilst we watched the sunset.
I would definitely go back to Bath, it was a lovely place to visit and only an hour from Gloucester. It reminded me of a mixture of the Laines in Brighton, the Bailgate area in Lincoln and the Norwich Lanes. It was our first trip of 2017, and editing this has made me excited to plan trips for the rest of the year!
