Places to see in ( Dijon - France ) Grand Theatre
The Opéra de Dijon is an opera company and arts organization in Dijon, France. It administers both the Grand Théâtre de Dijon and the Auditorium de Dijon which are its main performance venues. In addition to operas, the organization also stages ballets and classical music concerts.
Opera had been performed in Dijon by travelling opera troupes from the 17th century, although the city did not have its own theatre. The performances were given in privately owned and often ramshackle gambling dens and jeu de paume courts known as tripots. In 1717, the city acquired one of them (the tripot des Barres) with the intention of creating a municipal performing venue. The Salle de Comédie, as it was called by 1743, remained Dijon's main theatrical venue until 1828, with seating only installed in 1817. Prior to that, the audience had watched the performances standing up.
The Dijon architect Jacques Cellerier first proposed the construction of a new theatre to replace the Salle de Comédie in 1787. The demolition of the Sainte-Chapelle church and its cloister in 1802 freed up land in the city centre and plans began in earnest for a purpose-built municipal theatre and opera house. Cellerier formally submitted his plans in 1803. The first stone was laid in 1810, but construction was halted between 1814 an 1823. The building was finally completed in 1828 and inaugurated as the Grand Théâtre de Dijon.
The Grand Théâtre (also referred to in the past as the Opéra de Dijon) remained the city's only opera house until the end of the 20th century. Its last two General Directors were Guy Grinda (1966 to 1978) and Pierre Filippi (1978 to 2002). A second and larger municipal auditorium and concert hall was constructed in 1998, and in 2001 a new organization called Duo Dijon was set up to administer both the Grand Théâtre and the Auditorium and to become a production company in its own right rather than relying on touring productions and performers. Its first General Director was Olivier Desbordes who held the post until 2007. In 2008, under the directorship Laurent Joyeux, the organization's name was officially changed to Opéra de Dijon.
The Grand Théâtre de Dijon is located at the Place du Théâtre. It was inaugurated on 4 November 1828 with the play Les deguisements, ou une folie des grands hommes, especially written for the occasion by the Dijon-born poet Charles Brifaut. The theatre was designed by Jacques Cellerier (1742–1814) and Simon Vallot (1774–1850) in the Neo-classical style with an interior modelled after of those of Italian opera houses. In 1975 its exterior was declared a monument historique of France. The theatre's last major restoration was in 2005, and it now has a seating capacity of 692.
Planning for the construction of the Auditorium, a larger and more modern theatre and concert hall for the city, was begun by the Dijon City Council in 1988. It was designed by a consortium of architectural firms (Arquitectonica of Miami, Florida and Bougeault–Walgenwitz of Dijon with acoustics engineering by Artec) and was officially opened on 20 June 1998. The Orchestre National de France conducted by Charles Dutoit performed the inaugural concert in November of that year. Located at the Place Jean Bouhey, the triangular-shaped building, reminiscent of a grand piano, has two large glass-walled foyers and a main auditorium on four levels with a seating capacity of 1611.

Places to see in ( Dijon - France )
Dijon is the capital city of the historical Burgundy region in eastern France, one of the country’s principal wine-producing areas. Dijon
is known for its vineyard tours, autumn gastronomic fair and building styles ranging from Gothic to art deco. The distinguished 1787 Musée des Beaux-Arts, housed in the vast Palace of the Dukes, holds a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, crafts and antiquities.
Dijon is a city in eastern France, capital of the Côte-d'Or département and of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. The earliest archaeological finds within the city limits of Dijon date to the Neolithic period. Dijon later became a Roman settlement named Divio, located on the road from Lyon to Paris. The province was home to the Dukes of Burgundy from the early 11th until the late 15th centuries and Dijon was a place of tremendous wealth and power.
Dijon architecture is distinguished by, among other things, toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs) made of tiles glazed in terracotta, green, yellow and black and arranged in geometric patterns. Dijon holds an International and Gastronomic Fair every year in autumn. With over 500 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors every year, it is one of the ten most important fairs in France. Dijon is also home, every three years, to the international flower show Florissimo. Dijon is famous for Dijon mustard which originated in 1856, when Jean Naigeon of Dijon substituted verjuice, the acidic green juice of not-quite-ripe grapes, for vinegar in the traditional mustard recipe.
Dijon has a large number of churches, including Notre Dame de Dijon, St. Philibert, St. Michel, and Dijon Cathedral, dedicated to the apocryphal Saint Benignus, the crypt of which is over 1,000 years old. Dijon architecture is distinguished by, among other things, toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs) made of tiles glazed in terracotta, green, yellow and black and arranged in geometric patterns.
Dijon is home to many museums, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon in part of the Ducal Palace. Among the more popular sights is the Ducal Palace, the Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne or Palace of the Dukes and the States of Burgundy. The church of Notre Dame is famous for both its art and architecture. Popular legend has it that one of its stone relief sculptures, an owl (la chouette) is a good-luck charm

The Bacquin quarry park, built in 1976, is a remarkable example of the rehabilitation of an old stone quarry. We extracted here the Dijon stone, raw material of many monuments Dijon. It was used in particular for the Palace of the Dukes and States of Burgundy, the Porte Guillaume or the Hotel de Vogüe.
This beautiful green space covers 5 hectares. Take the path that winds through the abundant vegetation, made of trees, shrubs and flower beds. A waterfall and a green theater complete the decor.
This vast garden contributes to the dynamics of the Montchapet district . Fruit trees have been planted and will soon allow residents to enjoy a participatory orchard. You will also find:

Places to see in ( Dijon - France ) Ducal Palace
The Palace of the Dukes and Estates of Burgundy or Palais des ducs et des États de Bourgogne is a remarkably well-preserved architectural assemblage in Dijon. The oldest part is the 14th and 15th century Gothic ducal palace and seat of the Dukes of Burgundy, made up of a logis still visible on place de la Liberation, the ducal kitchens on cour de Bar, the tour de Philippe le Bon, a guette overlooking the whole city, and tour de Bar. Most of what can be seen today, however, was built in the 17th and especially the 18th centuries, in a classical style, when the palace was a royal residence building and housed the estates of Burgundy. Finally, the 19th façade of the musée on place de la Sainte-Chapelle was added on the site of the palace's Sainte-Chapelle, demolished in 1802. The Palace houses the city's town hall and the musée des Beaux-Arts.
The Duchy of Burgundy was founded in the 9th century, around the year 880, from the Kingdom of Burgundy by the Carolingian kings of France, Louis III and Carloman II, and the Princes who shared the Carolingian Empire, after reorganizing the entire kingdom into duchies and counties. Richard, Count of Autun, known as Richard the Justiciar, was named the first Margrave and Duke of Burgundy. He was one of the six in the French Peerage installed under his suzerain, King Louis III of France.
The palace turned into a Royal residence when the Duchy of Burgundy was occupied by the Kingdom of France after the death of Charles the Bold, in 1477, and the treaty of Arras of 1482 between the king Louis XI and Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor.
The ducal tombs were reinstalled in the Salle de garde following the razing of the Chartreuse de Champmol. During the 2010–12 renovation of the palace, a number of sculptures from tombs have traveled on exhibit.
