Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities at the Stockholm Royal Palace (Stockholm, Sweden)
I visited Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities, Sweden's oldest public art museum. It contains a collection of sculptures that King Gustav III of Sweden collected over the years. It is located in the Stockholm Royal Palace - in the Old Town (Gamla Stan) of Stockholm, Sweden. Shot in July 2018.

Visiting the Royal Castle in Stockholm - Sweden 4K Travel Channel
The Stockholm Palace is in the center of Stockholm, not far from the Old Town Gamla Stan on the island of Stadsholmen. The Palace, also called the Royal Palace, was built on the foundation walls of the Tre Kronor Palace, which burnt down in 1697. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and has 605 rooms, one room more than the Buckingham Palace. But who has already counted them?
The Stockholm Palace now houses the offices of the King and other members of the Royal House. As the official residence, it is also used for representation purposes.
The former living rooms are mainly publicly accessible as a museum. The castle also houses the Tre Kronor Museum, the Royal Armory and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities. There is also the treasury, but unfortunately filming is strictly forbidden (why actually?).
The Royal Apartments (castle museum)
After we have inspected the central inner courtyard, we enter the main building. Via a staircase, we reach the throne and coronation hall. A highlight of our tour is the gallery of Karl XI. The hall of mirrors is used for banquets of up to 170 guests. The inspiration for this hall was by its namesake, the hall of mirrors in the Versailles Palace.
One floor down is a series of rooms, used for representation purposes. There is also a collection of clocks with models from all epochs. Interesting is a model of the clock tower of Mecca, a gift to the king on a visit to Saudi Arabia 2011.
The Tre Kronor Museum
This museum is dedicated to the original Tre Kronor Palace. The name Tre Kronor goes back to the realm symbol, the three crowns. They once crowned the castle, which was destroyed by a heavy fire in 1697. The entrance of the Tre Kronor Museum is in the basement of the palace.
You see various models of the old castle and a part of the original foundation wall here. Next to the Tre Kronor Museum is the Treasury
Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities

Visit Stockholm: the Royal Palace | Sweden Travel Vlog
With more than 600 rooms, it is one of the world’s largest inhabited palace. In this palace, visitors can tour a lot of its rooms and museums, all included in the Stockholm Pass! During my visit, I only manage to check out Gustav III’s Antikmuseum and the Royal Apartment due to time-restrain. I highly recommend visiting the Royal Armory.

The Royal Palace is located in the middle of Gamla Stan and together with the changing of the guards in the courtyard it attracts many visitors. The palace was built in Baroque style by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger and its shape is meant to resemble a Roman palace.
The Royal Palace houses many interesting sights: Apart from the State Apartments there are four museums of royal history - Skattkammaren (Royal Treasury) with the royal regalia of Sweden, the Tre Kronor Museum, which depicts the palace’s medieval history, Gustav III:s Museum of Antiquities showing a collection of sculptures from ancient times and Livrustkammaren (the Royal Armoury) with clothes and other objects that are tied to Sweden’s regents and their families.
Stockholm Palace has a history that spans over many centuries and the development of the Roman Baroque style palace we see today was once a medieval citadel and renaissance palace. Today the King and Queen have their offices in the palace and the King’s administration, the Royal Court of Sweden, manages its activities from here. The official representation of the head of state is also partly carried out in the palace.

An exhibition hall with decorated domes, restored to its former state. Image: Linn Ahlgren/Nationalmuseum via AFP Nationalmuseum, the Swedish Museum of Fine Arts and Design in Stockholm, has announced it will reopen to the public on Oct. 13 following a five-year transformation that has added color, light and new areas for viewing art while highlighting the building’s architectural heritage. Among key changes, more than 300 windows in the building, most shuttered since the 1930s, have been opened to create light-filled spaces, while the interior design features a new color scheme that takes its inspiration from the original 1866 design. The new Sculpture Courtyard with Bengt Erland Fogelberg’s giant sculpture “Thor”. Image: Linn Ahlgren/Nationalmuseum via AFP Two original courtyards have been reopened for public use, creating space for a strikingly modern elevator tower and a new sculpture courtyard displaying works from the museum’s collection. Those two courtyards and the entrance hall have been merged into a single, open space that likewise houses a new restaurant featuring original interiors. ADVERTISEMENT Increased display space is another key feature of the transformation, and the main visitor route, which runs in a two-story spiral through the museum, will offer a chronological display of international masterpieces and works by Nordic artists. The newly installed Treasury is home to more than a thousand small objects, including the 600 portrait miniatures in the museum’s collection. Nationalmuseum will reopen with three temporary exhibitions, highlighted by the first show in the Nordic region of paintings by John Singer Sargent. “Design Stories” will explore current trends in Swedish design through the work of ten prominent designers, while a presentation by A&E Design will showcase the ergonomic everyday objects created by the design company, which was founded in 1968. Gustav III was King of Sweden from 1771 until his assassination in 1792.He was the eldest son of King Adolf Frederick of Sweden and Queen Louise Ulrika, a sister of King Frederick the Great of Prussia, and a first cousin of Empress Catherine the Great of Russia by reason of their common descent from Christian August of Holstein-Gottorp, Prince of Eutin, and his wife Albertina Frederica of Baden-Durlach.Gustav was a vocal opponent of what he saw as the abuse of political privileges that had been negotiated from the crown on behalf of the nobility since the death of King Charles XII.He seized power from the government in a coup d'état in 1772 that ended the Age of Liberty in Sweden and initiated a campaign to restore autocracy.
