Haviland Lake, Colorado
This is exactly what I had in my mind about Colorado, Lakes and Mountains. I will definitely come back again to Colorado.
Haviland Lake Campground (2018) San Juan National Forest
Haviland Lake is located off of Hwy 550 about 18 miles north of Durango, Colorado at an elevation of 8,705 ft (2653 m) The campground at Haviland Lake is beautiful. It is a USDA as part of the San Juan National forest. There are 43 campsites which have a great deal of separation from each other and the views through the trees across the lake towards the mountains are breathtaking. There is no sewage or water hookups at the sites. 15 of the sites have electric hookups.

Haviland Lake in San Juan National Forest - Colorado High Country
We are currently camped in the San Juan National Forest while exploring more of the Colorado high country and watching the aspen turn golden yellow in the cooling temperatures. This video shows Haviland Lake, a beautiful high-elevation lake just a short distance from our camp.

Molas Lake
Molas Lake Campground was granted to the Town of Silverton in 1925 from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The 137-acre campground sits along the Million Dollar Highway (US 550) in the central San Juan Mountains; the most spectacular peaks in the Colorado Rockies. The Campground is adjacent to the largest wilderness area in the state of Colorado, the Weminuche Wilderness.
Molas Lake Campground provides visitors with unforgettable scenery, a stocked 25-acre lake, National Forest access via the Colorado Trail, and dark, starry skies free from light-pollution. The campground and day-use amenities were completely renovated in 2008. There are more than 50 campsites serving tent-campers, small RV's and pop-ups, and a few sites over 1,500 square feet to serve even the largest RV's. The park has one water pump, several clean and new vault-style restrooms, showers, and a dump-station for RV's.
See molaslake.com for more info and coloradolottery.com for more family getaways.
New Plan for SJNF Campgrounds
Camping at Little Molas Lake on the north side of Molas pass will remain free…but the toilets will be removed. And expect to pay a fee to camp at the lower Hermosa Creek Campground in the near future. Those are among the changes that are included in the final recreation site analysis and work plan recently completed by the San Juan National Forest.
#MoveMountains365 - Day 2: Durango to Haviland Campground
Here's day 2 of Jenny's Move Mountains run across Colorado from last year. I'm calling this little month-long series MoveMountains 365.....its a look back at what was happening exactly 1 year ago today, but its also a reminder to wake up and realize you don't have to do something crazy to move mountains. You can do it right now. Today. Everyday. 365 days. From wherever you are.
FYI - #MoveMountains365 is a rough and dirty side project to commemorate the 1 yr anniversary of Jenny's run....there will be a Full Documentary coming....but this next month is just the beginning, and only intended to be a superficial look at what happened a year ago today. Stay tuned....and share if you like!!
PS - we saw a lot of kindness last year during the run....but Day 2 was one of the coolest things for me: I left one of my cameras on the sidewalk in Durango,....and 2 hours later, some kind folks out for a ride with their kids, decided to pick it up and take it to the police station. Thankful for good people in this world.
