Minho - The jewel of the north of Portugal

Minho - The jewel of the north of Portugal
The Minho is a region of northern Portugal.
The region is known for its Vinho Verde (unique in the country), and its verdant valleys, villages, towns and cities, and of course, its people, physiognomy rude but always with a smile. Women known as the most beautiful give life to this region, which is already beautiful.
The region is beautiful, as you can check in my pictures this short video to see what I propose: Viana do Castelo, Caminha, Vilar de Moors, Valencia, Monsoon, Paredes de Coura, Arcos de Valdevez, and Ponte de Lima Barcelos.
Then there's also the food, well watered with a green wine, and friendly people and nice to have pride in receiving, and insist that visitors feel good.
Anyway there would be much to write about the Minho region of this corner planted by the sea, his name PORTUGAL.

Convento Cristo | Tomar | Portugal

Fraga da Pena Waterfall is as one of the most interesting natural resources of the Protected Landscape of Açor Mountain. This cascade flows in a very narrow valley, which creates an unexpected landscape of schist stones covered by vegetation. The waters of Barroca das Degrainhas flow into this high waterfall.
Piódão it's a precious gem, this tiny schist village preserved in the mountains. Classified national heritage.
The houses in Piódão are placed in a quite interesting way in a natural amphitheatre. The applied construction material is the schist, used in the houses, roofs and street pavements. In contrast to these dark colours, the local church is painted in an immaculate white. The residential area is surrounded by an immense green landscape.
The village of Foz d’Égua belongs to the parish of Piódão and shares with it the mystical beauty of the Açor Sierra. The village is characterized by its rural aspect, with its typical houses of shale and slate, surrounded by nature in its purest state, rich in fauna and flora which here find their natural habitat.

Porto, Portugal
Porto, a World Heritage city, is the gateway and departure point for a journey across the natural and cultural diversity of the region. It is known for the Port wine which is shipped from here all over the world, but also for a heritage which combines ancient churches and monuments, such as the Cathedral and the Church of São Francisco, and modern buildings, such as Casa da Música and the Serralves Museum. And also for its School of Architecture which bred names like Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto de Moura, both winners of the Pritzker Prize.
The region is crossed by the River Douro which enters Portugal between the ravines and mountains of the interior to flow through the entire World Heritage landscape where the Port and Douro wines are produced. It is from here that the wine is sent to the lodges at Vila Nova de Gaia, as the cruises touring the region make their way upriver.
In this area of mountains and natural parks, the region’s heritage is seen in its castles, such as the one in Guimarães, and the shrines and churches which are the stage for pilgrimages in the summer. You will find the Baroque architecture of Northern Portugal in its stone and gilded carvings side by side with rural chapels. In its cities, which retain a human scale, such as Viana do Castelo, Braga, Lamego, Chaves and Vila Real, and in the manor houses and stately halls, you will find the genuine Portuguese people, who like to share their table, their customs and traditions. In Porto and Northern Portugal, the joy and gratitude for all we have and are is experienced in the most spontaneous way.

Peso da Régua aerial view - 4K Ultra HD
Peso da Régua the Port wine capital
The origins of Peso da Régua remain unknown, but legend has it that a countryside Roman house named Villa Reguela existed here. However, it boomed from 1756 due to the creation of the General Company of Alto Douro Vine Agriculture. Marquis de Pombal, who was the founder of the world's first wine region, created this institution. The Company's warehouses were thus built in Peso da Régua, and the first wine fairs were held, stimulating the creation of several businesses, board houses, game rooms and other important facilities. Typical Rabelo boats set sail from here along Douro river, carrying wine barrels to Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine aged in the wine cellars. It became a town on February 3rd 1837 and a city on August 14th 1985. In 1998, it was classified as International Vine and Wine City. Its natural landscapes are absolutely unique, since Alto Douro wine region was classified by UNESCO as World Heritage. The city has numerous leisure infrastructures, such as a pedestrian area, tennis courts, swimming pools and fishing equipments, handicraft stores, restaurants and bars. Tourism boats sail from and to its river quay through Douro river. The council is rich in historical heritage with several manor houses, small palaces and the quintas of Port wine producers, most of them opened to the public, several religious architecture monuments and the Railway Station, officially opened on July 14th 1879.
The three bridges - road and rail - linking the two banks of the Douro River, make the scenery of the Peso da Régua even more magnificent!

Village Chumbaria - A picturesque village in Central Portugal - For sale
Situated high on a hilltop with spectacular all round views of lush green one side and to infinity from the other.
The Chumbaria Village: tranquil, peaceful and secluded with maybe the odd tractor or car passing through once and a while.
Long ago grapes were grown to produce wine, olive trees for oil, original Portuguese oak trees for cork, the old giant wine vats, water wells and some oak trees still remain.
The old stone built buildings are terraced and detached, some have a ground and first floor which if converted/refurbished would make comfortable good sized 2 or 3 bedroomed homes, the larger ideal for stables/ guest houses/function room/restaurant.
Walking through the village road, the properties to the right hand side have an access road to the rear, then an incline where previously the landscape was terraced and grapevines were grown. The left hand side was for the olive and oak trees and is where one of the water wells is situated.
There is approximately 4 hectares of land (30,000M2) that can be separated and allocated to individual properties, the village would be suitable for an eco-friendly village through the abundance of the natural resources available - water, wells, good soil, general climate conditions and of course, sun.
The house we are currently living in is the first on the right hand side on entering the village, (3 bedrooms) which has been recently refurbished with a new roof, kitchen and bathroom etc. the large rear balcony offers great views and an ideal area to relax and enjoy an afternoon lunch with a glass of local made wine.
As it stands there is only power supply to the recently refurbished house. Therefore resources for heat/electricity/water supply etc. are optional.
There is full internet access with a strong 4G signal.
Chumbaria is around an hour and a half drive north of Lisbon and 1 hour 45mins south of Porto. Leiria is Portugal’s fourth largest city, has a vibrant city centre and is just a 20min drive away.
Local attractions include: The Batalha Monastery, Leiria Castle, Leiria Cathedral and Fatima, to mention a few.
The four local Beaches are 30 to 45 minute drive and include the famous Nazare which is world renowned for surfing (also accessible by public transport).
There is a local Café bar and a supermarket within walking distance (10 minutes) and is also where the local bus service is available.

Braga Portugal HD
Braga is a city of huge beauty and heritage richness, which combines tradition with innovation, the memory to the youth, creativity to conservatism.
With over 2000 years of a very rich history, possesses one of the oldest Sacro-Montes in Europe and is the representative of the Minho region, the Bom Jesus. In Braga, we can find the oldest Portuguese Cathedral and the Motherhouse of the Benedictines, the Monastery of Tibães (Mosteiro de Tibães).
Bom Jesus:
Sameiro:
Braga presents places that by their intrinsic devotion and beauty, impose themselves as mandatory benchmarks to visit. The Sanctuary of Sameiro (Santuário do Sameiro), the Bom Jesus and the Falperra, settling on an appealing religious basis, are surrounded by ravishing green spaces and paradise landscapes.
The Roman legacy is another of the attractive factors of Braga, often called ‘Portuguese Rome’, due to its origin in the Roman city of Bracara Augusta. Known by its distinct churches, splendid XVIII century houses, gardens, nature parks and recreational areas. Braga’s long history is visible in the splendor of its monuments, museums and churches.
Visiting Braga is like taking a time travel inside modernity. Old city and of traditional religiousness – always imposing on its richness and majesty – lives hand in hand with the entrepreneurship and young spirit in vital areas such as culture, commerce, gastronomy, industry and services.
Enjoy Braga! From here go and discover Gerês, the North of Portugal and Galicia, but come back… come back because here you are near to everything.
In Braga, feel good, in this so welcoming place, near, different and complete!
