-Casa Museo Tudor (Tudor House)
-Museo del Titanic (Museum)
-Murallas de Southampton (City Walls)
-Memorial del Titanic
-Museo Marítimo de Southampton
-Teatro Mayflower (Theatre)
-Estadio St.Mary’s (St. Mary’s Stadium)
-Southampton University
Southampton is a port city on England’s south coast. It’s home to the SeaCity Museum, with an interactive model of the Titanic, which departed from Southampton in 1912. Nearby, Southampton City Art Gallery specialises in modern British art. Solent Sky Museum features vintage aircraft like the iconic Spitfire. Tudor House & Garden displays artifacts covering over 800 years of history, including a penny-farthing bike.
Southampton on the south coast of England, is the largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire. Southampton is 75 miles (121 km) south-west of London and 19 miles (31 km) north-west of Portsmouth. Southampton is a major port and the closest city to the New Forest. Southampton lies at the northernmost point of Southampton Water at the confluence of the Rivers Test and Itchen, with the River Hamble joining to the south of the urban area.
Significant employers in the city include the University of Southampton, Southampton Solent University, Southampton Airport, Ordnance Survey, BBC South, the NHS, ABP and Carnival UK. Southampton is noted for its association with the RMS Titanic, the Spitfire and more generally in the World War II narrative as one of the departure points for D-Day, and more recently as the home port of a number of the largest cruise ships in the world. Southampton has a large shopping centre and retail park, Westquay. In 2014, the city council approved a follow-up from the Westquay park, WestQuay Watermark (now known as Westquay South) and construction began in January 2015.
The geography of Southampton is influenced by the sea and rivers. The city lies at the northern tip of the Southampton Water, a deep water estuary. Southampton is home to Southampton Football Club—nicknamed The Saints—the club plays in the Premier League at St Mary's Stadium .

12.45pm Bangali Music and Dance Performance – Hampshire Puja and Cultural Association
Context/Background:
Bengal is predominantly an agricultural state of India. So the
folk culture is directly related to the harvest cycle reflecting people's mood at different phases of the harvest cycle. And depending on where you are in Bengal different types of local folk cultures have been developed. But there is something else also. The harvest cycle is also related to the climatic seasons and therefore the folk culture is actually implicitly related to the 6
seasons of Bengal as well.
The first season of Bengal is the Summer. Just before Summer the farmers sow seeds for Aus paddy. Now the summer in Bengal could be quite severe and there could be long time of no rain. For good growth of paddy you need plenty of water, this summer season could be really difficult particularly when the temperature goes to something like 40 degrees or more. The farmers get scared that the paddy, on which their livelihood depend, will die and they are destined for hardship. This is the time when they sing a type of song known as “Noila” r gaan. Through this ALLAH MEGH DE song they express their ongoing hardship and fear to the God with the belief that the God will bring rain and the paddy will survive. This is a popular type of song mainly what was East Bengal, now Bangladesh.
After 2 months of summer starts Monsoon season – in Bengali “Barsha”. People get really rejuvenated with the prospect of great crop. The music of water in the rivers alive again with rain waters is echoed in the people's mind.
This is also the season when fishermen go to the deep sea for good catch. While the rest of Bengal celebrates the rainy season with their beloved ones, these people are far far away from their families. They express their sorrow by a traditional song called “Bhatiali”, the song that is sang in the rhythm of low tide water.
After “Barsha” comes Autumn, we call it Sharat. This is the time when the farmers cut the Aus paddy crop and sow seeds for the main crop – the Amon paddy. And this is also the greatest festival time in Bengali because this is the time of Durga Puja. It is imagined that the supreme mother Durga comes home with all her children symbolising arrival of prosperity. That's why she is regarded not only as the Goddess but the girl next door who comes back home.
After this time comes Hemanta season, you can call it pre-winter and lasts for another 2 months. At this time the main crops keep growing in the field and the peoples' minds are full with the expectation of great crops. During this time you can see the “Bauls”, kind of nomadic people wearing saffrons. They go around the villages singing what is traditionally known as “Baul songs”. These songs in general talks about the union of Radha and Krishna and adequately reflect the mood of people waiting in anticipation of great crops.
The variation in Bengal is really massive. Now comes the Winter. We call it Shet. This is the main harvest season. Crop cutting and rice extraction from paddy is the most joyous time in Bengal. This crop cutting is symbolised in the form of Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of Wealth. While doing their crop cutting and rice extraction work with a traditional equipment called “Dhenki” people keep singing with fullest joy of their mind.
And finally comes the last season of Bengal, The Spring or Bashanta as it is known in Bengal. This is the time when the old harvest cycle is finished and new harvest cycle with sowing seed of Aus paddy starts. People are full of joy and love and they enjoy themselves with traditional songs and dance as if they have now got a new life. A particular form of this is “Bihu” which originated in the neighbouring state Assam but has big influence on the folk musics from North Bengal which is adjacent to Assam.
