Visit The Netherlands - The Don'ts of The Netherlands
Read the Blog: What Tourists Should Not Do When They Visit The Netherlands
GRAB A WOLTERS WORLD SHIRT
Whether Heading to Amsterdam for a Crazy Night in the Red Light District, or to Haarlem for an architecture and art rendezvouses or to Rotterdam the Netherlands has a lot for people to do when they visit. This video goes over some things you shouldn't do when you go to The Netherlands.
The Don'ts of Visiting The Netherlands. Things Tourists Shouldn't Do in The Netherlands or Holland.
Filmed in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Copyright Mark Wolters 2017
Don't #1. Don't Call The Netherlands, Holland. Holland is actually only two of the twelve counties in The Netherlands.
Don't #2. Don't Think the Netherlands is Just Amsterdam. There are tons of other towns, cities and villages to visit. From the flowers in Keukenhof to the Beauty of Groningen.
Don't #3. Don't Be stupid with Drugs or Alcohol when you visit. The coffeeshops are world famous and you should never buy drugs off the street.
Don't #4. Don't just bite into hot food. The Dutch like their fried food hot as can be, so make sure you take a second to blow on it or else you might lose a few skin cells.
Don't #5. Don't Wander into the Bike Lanes in The Netherlands. Those bikes will get you.
Don't #6, Don't Take the Dutch Attitude Personally. The Dutch are very straightforward and will ask you anything. So don't be upset, just know that is just how they are.
Don't #7. Don't Forget to Bring a chip card with a PIN number for purchasing from person-less kiosks & shops.
Don't #8. Have coins with you so you can pick up a snack on the go.
Don't #9. Don't Be Surprised if you see all the Dutch Tourism Stereotypes when you visit. From wooden shoes to windmills to cheese to really tall people on bikes, you will see them.
Don't #10. Don't forget to buzz your train ticket card when you enter and exit the platforms/stations.
Don't #11. Don't Take pictures of the girls in the windows in the Red Light District.
Don't #12. Don't Take the Hop On Hop Off Bus in Amsterdam. The bus cannot go a lot of places in the historic center. You would be better off on the hop on hop off canal boat.
Don't #13. Don't think that Amsterdam is just the red light district. It is so much more with culture, food, art.
Don't #14. Don't forget to Bring a jacket. It will rain while you are there, even if it says sunny.

Utrecht, Netherlands walking tour
Utrecht is one special city in the Netherlands with a unique atmosphere created by terrace restaurants and promenades right at water level along the canals, producing a delightful ambience in a historic setting, and yet also lined with modern shops and restaurants and bars. It's this wonderful split-level setting with pedestrian streets above and down below by the canals you've got the restaurants on their terraces, really quite special. And there are many other delightful aspects to the city of Utrecht. It's the fourth largest city in the Netherlands, and it's got the oldest university, and they claim the second largest collection of historic medieval buildings, second only to Amsterdam. Standing high above it all is the tallest church tower in the country, then add to the mix typical Dutch ingredients of friendly people with a relaxed tolerant attitude, always ranked high in global indexes of happiness and quality of life – bicycles zooming by, great beer, wonderful food, and a compact pedestrian historic zone riddled with picturesque canals. This is a place you would love to visit as we will show you in this detailed travel guide.

Rotterdam, trams, canals, museums, Netherlands
Starting out at the Rotterdam train station, which is where you would probably be arriving when you come to Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. There's an excellent Tourist Information counter here where you can get a lot of good advice about the main sites you want to see in your visit.
The tram station out front is quite active with eight different tramlines running through it. You'll quickly reach anywhere in town from the central station.
There are very modern buildings in Rotterdam, and they are well planned with apartments in the downtown area and some parks and you've got the idyllic waterfront with the boat traffic and the apartments around it.
There is a culture history museum. There's an excellent art museum. And that's where we are heading soon in the program, show you a couple of fine museums.
First we walk along Westersingel canal, with parks along the banks of the canal, you've got some ducks quacking by and also it's an outdoor sculpture garden with fountains and benches and a wide promenade that makes for very easy and pleasant walking.
Then we visit a great museum, Boymans van Beuningen, which is one of the major art museums in the Netherlands, an amazing collection that spans from the Renaissance and earlier right up through modern design.
Then, the museum we are heading for next is all about people and culture history called the World Museum and English, or in Dutch, the name is Wereldmuseum.
The city population is 640,000 making it second largest after Amsterdam, but if you include the greater metropolitan area extending to the Hague, population totals 2.5 million. Rotterdam has got 38 skyscrapers and 352 high-rises with many more skyscrapers coming up soon.
There are nine different tramlines operating in Rotterdam, making this a very convenient way to get around, and they are thoroughly modernized. Although, in their beginnings, they were founded in 1878 as horse-drawn trams. In 1904 the first electric trams began service and gradually the horse wagons were phased out. By 1906 there was already five electric tramlines operating and then four more lines began in the next four years. The last horse cars stopped running by 1925. The maximum extent of Rotterdam's tramway network was 25 lines, which was reached in 1930.
Throughout the main cities of Europe, there has been a similar history of trams developing from horse to electric, and then declining, and in recent years, a resurgence in popularity of the system. Currently 40 different Dutch cities have operating tram systems, but only two have metros, Rotterdam and Amsterdam.

KOMBUCHA
» Beginner's Guide to Kombucha:
» Benefits of kombucha:
ROBIN'S LENTIL & PESTO PASTA
» Yield: 4-6 servings
» Time: 30 min
» Ingredients
1/4 cup (35 g) pine nuts
250g pasta (we used a chickpea pasta)
1 tsp (5 mL) vegetable oil
2 medium red onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 spicy chili pepper, chopped (optional)
1 tsp Italian spice mix
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp dried paprika powder
1/4 cup (100g) sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
1 can (260 g) cooked lentils, rinsed and drained
2 medium bell peppers, thinly sliced (we used red and yellow)
2 medium roasted bell peppers from a jar, chopped
2 large handfuls of cherry tomatoes, halved
1 jar (150g) green olives
1/4 cup (60g) vegan pesto
2 large handfuls of washed fresh spinach
» Directions
1. Roast pine nuts on a pan on medium-low heat until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
2. Add the vegetable oil and onion to a large pot on medium-high heat, cooking for 2 minutes, adding a splash of water as needed to deglaze the pan. Then we’ll add the garlic and cook for a couple minutes more.
3. Add the chili pepper and spices, and cook for another 30 seconds or so before adding the sun-dried tomatoes.
4. At this point, you can start cooking the pasta in salted, boiling water until al dente. Then drain and set aside.
5. Back to the pot, we’ll add the lentils, sliced bell peppers, and a small splash of water. Then add the lid to the pot and let this steam for a few minutes.
6. Then we add the roasted bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, and olives, pesto and spinach. Give it a stir until the spinach wilts, and remove from the heat.
7. Serve the veggie sauce together with the pasta. Garnish with the roasted pine nuts, fresh basil leaves, and lime wedges. Enjoy!

Amsterdam's Best Hidden Restaurants, Bars and Shops!
We are back in Amsterdam and this time we are visiting the best-hidden gems that are only visited by locals. So join us as we jump on our bike and experience Amsterdam like a local and hop by awesome bars, restaurants and shopping spots. We start the day with a leisurely free ferry ride to Amsterdam Noord where we have a typical Dutch breakfast at cafe Noorderlicht. With a full stomach, we travel to the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam’s west to experience the city’s best chocolates at Tony's Chocolonely, shop for some funky souvenirs and have lunch at Mossels and Gin. Next up we start the day drinks at distillery Wynand Fockink. The distillery and tasting tavern is located in a little alleyway off the famous Dam and serves over 70 Dutch liqueurs and jenevers which are all made by hand on-site. We sample typical Dutch flavours like Half and Half and crowd favourite Salted Dutch Liquorice. Slightly tipsy we take the train to Amsterdam’s south to visit The World of Food. The former parking garage has been converted into a food hall and serves cuisines from all over the world like Surinamese and Ghanaian. To finish off the night we head back to the Red Light District for some light entertainment at Tonton Club where we enjoy old school arcade games with craft beers. Join us on our insider's adventure of Amsterdam and let us know if we missed any of your favourite hidden gems!
