City in Japan
Narita is a city on the eastern outskirts of Tokyo, Japan. It's home to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport.
In Narita's center is the centuries-old Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, a Buddhist complex with gilded pagodas and tranquil gardens. Running between Narita train station and the temple is Omotesando, a narrow street lined with colorful shops and restaurants in the style of Japan's Edo period.

Japan Narita Transit and Stay Tour- Free English Tour of Naritasan Temple & Omotesando
I've been wanting to do this video forever since I first chanced upon the free Narita Transit tours offered at the Narita airport back in 2017. However back then most of my layovers were 3-4 hours and I stayed inside the airport gate area and could not leave past immigrations.
This video guide and semi review is about my experience on the Narita-san and Shinsho Ji Temple tour which is Tour 1 option of the Narita Transit and Stay Program.
This is best used if you have a long layover between 8 AM- 5 PM or if you are a tourist staying at the nearby hotels close to Narita Airport.
Between 2018 and 2019 I purposely made 2 long layover trips in Japan en-route to the Philippines with me leaving the airport either from Haneda to Narita or ttaying overnight in Narita at the capsule hotel during a 21hour layover- to be able to do the free tour and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
So, what is the Narita Transit & Stay Tour? This is a program offered by Narita Airport for people with long daytime layovers of over 6+ hours or for tourist staying close around the airport hotels. These are English guided tours by a Japanese local to 5 tour spots such as Naritasan Temple, Sakae Town and Tako Town. They also offers self guided tours to nearby malls and markets by using the available free shuttle or trains.
Though the tour itself is free, please make sure to have Japanese cash available for your train ticket, shopping money and meal which you will use during the tour.
For first timers, I really suggest to do the Naritasan & Shinshoji Temple tour especially if you have 4 hours to spare. You can book and reserve your spot at or do first come-first serve by arriving at the airport booth at 9:00 AM.
For a more detailed brakdown of my tour, please visit

TOKYO TRIP ???????? - Day 1 - Traveling to Tokyo, AirBNB house, Amazing Ramen, and a Japanese Pharmacy
We were in Tokyo for 7 days, and vlogged our whole trip! This is Day 1, where we journey from Narita Airport to our AirBNB house in western Tokyo. It was my first time being back in Japan, my home country, in 17 years!
For our first day, Marie and I were awake for about 21 hour straight. We spent many hours commuting... and were finally glad to check into our AirBNB in Hounancho, a quick 15 minute trip west of Shinjuku Station.
Once we dropped off our bags, we just wanted to get out and eat some real Japanese food, and what's better than some authentic Japanese ramen!
To answer many questions, no, I'm not Japanese. I am Korean-American. My mother is from Seoul. My father is from Chicago.
I was born and raised in Japan, and grew up on U.S. Navy bases there. My father was in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, which makes me a certified Navy brat. ^^
To be specific, I was born in Okinawa, lived in Yokosuka city (elementary & middle school), and Sasebo city (high school). I left in 1999 after finishing high school...

Japanese New Year’s Tradition and Culture | January 1, 2019 | Mitake Shinto Shrine Ome Tokyo Japan
Hatsumōde (初詣 hatsumōde) is the first Shinto shrine visit of the Japanese New Year. Some people visit a Buddhist temple instead. Many visit on the first, second, or third day of the year as most are off work on those days. Generally, wishes for the new year are made, new omamori (charms or amulets) are bought, and the old ones are returned to the shrine so they can be burned. There are often long lines at major shrines throughout Japan.
Most of the people in Japan are off work from December 29 until January 3 of every year. It is during this time that the house is cleaned, debts are paid, friends and family are visited and gifts are exchanged. It would be customary to spend the early morning of New Year's Day in domestic worship, followed by sake—often containing edible gold flakes—and special celebration food. During the hatsumōde, it is common for men to wear a full kimono—one of the rare chances to see them doing so across a year[citation needed]. The act of worship is generally quite brief and individual and may involve queuing at popular shrines. The o-mamori vary substantially in price.
Some shrines and temples have millions of visitors over the three days. Meiji Shrine for example had 3.45 million visitors in 1998, and in the first three days of January 2010, 3.2 million people visited Meiji Jingū, 2.98 million Narita-san, 2.96 million Kawasaki Daishi, 2.7 million Fushimi Inari-taisha, and 2.6 million Sumiyoshi Taisha.[1][2] Other popular destinations include Atsuta Jingū, Tsurugaoka Hachimangū, Dazaifu Tenman-gū, and Hikawa Shrine.[3]
A common custom during hatsumōde is to buy a written oracle called omikuji. If your omikuji predicts bad luck you can tie it onto a tree on the shrine grounds, in the hope that its prediction will not come true. The omikuji goes into detail, and tells you how you will do in various areas in your life, such as business and love, for that year. Often a good-luck charm comes with the omikuji when you buy it, that is believed to summon good luck and money your way.

Staying the night in an abandoned Japanese haunted house.. by myself
Subscribe:
I am in Japan the Land of the Rising sun. But also the land of abandoned and haunted houses. You see, in Japan, when someone dies in a house; nobody wants to go near it anymore because they believe the former residents haunt the house. Therefore many houses and buildings end up being abandoned, and left for nature to take over. Now with Halloween coming up my little brother challenged me to stay the night in one of those houses, which just so happens to be my biggest nightmare. Als he challenged me to watch Netflix' The haunting of Hill house while I was in that place, which I tried but it was a bit too much for me. All in all I had a horrible time and I hope I don't ever have to do this again ;) And no horror films anytime soon either!
My name is Cyrion Willems and I believe that life is too short to spend it in your comfort zone, life is too short to follow all the rules and life is too short to not embrace the adventure!
