STREET FOOD IN ITALY | ROME street food tour | What to eat in Rome
We're in Rome, Italy! In this 3 part series we're exploring Italy's capital city to hunt down the best local food. Rome has a distinct cuisine- one based on nose to tail eating, punchy bold flavours and fresh ingredients prepared simply.
This is our first video from Rome and it's all about Rome street food! We start the day with one of Rome's most popular street foods: the suppli. A breaded, deep fried rice ball made up of risotto rice cooked in a rugu and stuffed with a blob of mozzarella- these things are addictive! Next up we hunt down some delicious pizza from pizza bianca (white pizza) to pizza al taglio (by the slice)- we find some stellar versions. Next up, gelato! One of the ultimate sweet Roman street foods! Not all gelato are made equal so we hunt down a gelateria which prepares every single ingredient for their gelato onsite from roasting the nuts to peeling and pulping the fruit. This gelato is next level and really popular with the locals. We finish up at one of Rome's institutions- a restaurant that serves only one thing: fried salt cod. If you're not eating in, head to the back of the restaurant and order a filet of fried salt cod to takeaway directly from the kitchen and enjoy it on the streets of Rome.
We hope you enjoyed this Italian food video, thanks for watching! #italianfood #romefoodtour #rome

Eating Italy Food Tour in Rome
Several spring 2016 CIMBA students decided to learn about Italian culture through food! Here's a look at their behind-the-scenes tour of Italian food and history in some of Rome's best best hidden food spots.

WHAT TO EAT IN ROME, ITALY | Rome food tour
We're in Rome, Italy! In this 3 part series we're exploring Italy's capital city to hunt down the best Roman food. Rome has a distinct cuisine- one based on nose to tail eating, punchy bold flavours, fresh ingredients prepared simply and they love their street food.
This is our second video from Rome and we're eating street food plus Cucina Romana (Roman cuisine) from a traditional, local restaurant. We start at Mercato Testaccio and hunt down one of the city's best sandwiches- a braised beef sarnie filled with bitter greens. It's utterly delicious and well worth eating. Next up we head to a famous bakery that has a long history of producing maritozzi, a beloved breakfast bun made up of sweet dough piled with whipped cream. We wash it down with an espresso before heading for a more modern Roman street food snack- trapizzino. Trapizzino are a sort of pizza pocket- fluffy, chewy dough encasing traditional Roman dishes like tongue cooked in salsa verde, tripe and chicken cacciatora. They are SO good! We finish up at a raucous, fun restaurant where we eat horse, traditional Roman pasta (cacio pepe), tripe and bull's testicles!! What a meal!
We hope you enjoyed this Roman food tour! And we hope it helps you in your search for what to eat in Rome! #romanfood #romefoodtour #italianfood

This is our third video from Rome and we're eating street food plus showing you some traditional Roman foods. We start in the Jewish Ghetto and visit one of the most historic pastry shops in the city to sample their ricotta and cherry cake. This kosher bakery is famous for their cake which features creamy ricotta, wild sour cherries and a crumbly pastry. Next up we head to a heritage, hole in the wall spot serving porchetta- a whole pig which is de-boned, seasoned, rubbed with rosemary, rolled and roasted. Er Buchetto is a 6th generation shop which brings its porchetta in from Arricia- a village outside of Rome famous for its porchetta. We eat a porchetta panino- slices of juicy pork stuffed into a crusty roll. It is SENSATIONAL. It's then time for a long lunch of pasta at a neighbourhood trattoria which does the best pasta we ate in our week long stay in Rome. Finally it's off to a Roman pizza joint to sample the classic thin and crispy Roman pizza. What a day of eating! We hope you enjoyed our Rome food tour! #rome #italy #romefoodtour

Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino.
00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day.
2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived.
3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular.
5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47).
10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended.
13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35)
14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person.
16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner!
Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food!

Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy
Join us for an Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy as we sample numerous savory and sweet dishes on the second level of the market. Prior to arriving at the Central Market (Mercato Centrale) we had this idea that it would be upscale and touristy with prices to match but were pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was to grab tasty bites on a budget. We ended up spending just over 23 Euros total for the two of us to sample a lot of different food at Florence Central Market (Mercato di San Lorenzo). Here is the list of food items we had at the market:
1) Parmigiano Reggiano (parmesan cheese cubes)
2) Burrata sandwich with prosciutto
3) Trapizzino (pizza dough with a stuffed filling)
4) Arancini (crispy rice balls with a savory filling)
5) Cannoli dessert with gelato inside
6) Malaga gelato (rum and raisin flavored ice cream)

Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy Video Transcript:
It is lunchtime in Florence and we are back at Central Market (Mercato Centrale / Mercato di San Lorenzo). We were here yesterday to buy some produce and a few groceries to cook an Italian meal at home. And then we noticed that on the second floor they have a whole bunch of restaurants and deli shops so we figured let's come back and actually have lunch here.
That is the plan for today. We've just arrived but we're going to have a little wander through to see what is available and then we'll start buying little bites. We've got to scout it out really well before we pick.
We've got our first two items. That kind of startled you there. Yeah, I was admiring my cheese. We got a little cone of parmigiano. Parmesan. Parmigiano Reggiano. This was 3.50 in Euros. The best part is it comes in these massive cubes and you've got this little fork to pierce them with so look at the size of this.
All of the cheeses, the meats, the pastas, the pizzas. Wow. The gelatos. It is like this is really good. Italy is making me chubby.
And you know what is next. This little thing. This little thing. I believe this was called Burrata. And it looks like it this looks like focaccia bread or something. It has kind of been made into a sandwich. It is a sandwich. It has prosciutto. I'll kind of lift it up here so you can see. It appears I could be wrong but it appears to have a some salad. Some salad. Ensalada. I think there is some creamy cheese as well. It was 6 Euros.
We found our next dish. This is called Trapizzino. And it looks amazing. Basically this is pizza dough in the form of a triangle and then it has been stuffed with filling. You can choose what filling you want. They have a whole bunch to choose from but we went with the eggplant and the tomato sauce a little bit of pesto and then parmesan cheese on top coming in at 4 Euros.
Moving on to snack number four. So this is something we've seen a few times and we've wanted to try it. And we've never had it. It is basically a giant crispy rice ball (arancini). Inside there is different flavors. We got the one with prosciutto for 3 Euros.
Alright we're moving on to dessert. What do you got in your hands?
We got two desserts. We did. But let's start with this one. So this is the Cannoli at 3 Euros. And instead of being stuffed with a cream of ricotta it is actually gelato made with ricotta cheese and we got rum and raisin gelato called Malaga at 3.50 Euros.
That brings our total to 23 Euros for two people. Basically 11.50 per person. We got to eat a lot of like amazing delicious food. I mean this far exceeded my expectations.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

Tour of Italy: Venice, Florence, Rome, & Naples
We took a Go Ahead Tours guided tour of Italy as an introduction to traveling internationally. The Italian people were very welcoming and we would highly recommend this tour to others. Italy is incredibly rich in history, culture, and spectacular architecture.
We chose this particular tour because every destination started with a tour guide and then included at least one free day where we were able to wander out on our own. We had the most fun roaming around the cities by foot on our own, trying to get lost, and mostly succeeding in that endeavor. We never felt unsafe, though of course, we still used common sense to avoid areas that seemed potentially sketchy. Of course, as with any tourist destination, watch out for the petty thieves and pickpockets; keep your valuables close and never hang your purse on the back of a chair.
