A video of me swimming around the pipes coming from the electric power plant across the street. The water coming out of the pipes is significantly warmer, which is why there are so many fish swimming around it.

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (Hawaii-EMA), together with the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management, conducted siren testing (Modulator 6024B) at Aolewa Place (Honolulu Airport area) on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from about 1146 AM to 1211 PM. This replaced a Thunderbolt 1000.
The siren was installed as part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project. Other sirens will be updated, and new sirens installed, at various locations across the state over the coming months. Residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to 3-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, Emergency Management Officials and Technicians will be checking the functionality of the siren.

DSA Coral Creek Golf Course alert/wail/alt wail 2-1-2018
EWA BEACH, Hawaii- The State’s monthly test of the Statewide Outdoor Warning Siren System, coordinated with the test of the Live Audio Broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System, is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 11:45 a.m.
The warning sirens are used to alert the public to emergencies. During this monthly test, all warning sirens will sound a one-minute Attention Alert Signal (Steady Tone) followed by a one-minute Attack Warning Signal (Wailing Tone). There will be no exercise or drill accompanying the test.
The Attention Alert Signal informs residents to turn on a radio or television for information and instruction for an impending emergency, or if in a coastal inundation area, evacuate to higher ground. The Attack Warning Signal directs residents to seek immediate shelter and remain sheltered in place until an all-clear message is broadcast over radio or television.
Oahu residents in areas surrounding Campbell Industrial Park may also hear a “whooping” tone following the siren test. These areas include portions of Kalaeloa, Makakilo, Nanakuli, Kapolei, & Ewa Beach. The “whooping” tone is a test of the Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) siren warning group that will be activated in the event of a HAZMAT incident requiring emergency notification of businesses, schools and residents within the vicinity of Campbell Industrial Park. Contact the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management at (808) 723-8960 for more information on the HAZMAT warning group siren test.
The outdoor warning sirens are one part of a three-component emergency notification system. A simultaneous test of the Emergency Alert System is conducted with the siren system, in cooperation with Hawaii’s broadcast industry. In the event of a real emergency, warning sirens and Emergency Alert Broadcasts would be joined by alerts via the Wireless Emergency Alert system, which delivers sound-and-text warnings to mobile telephones and compatible devices.

Beginning in November 2017 regarding the Campbell Industrial Park; Nanakuli and Ewa Beach are now included in the whooping tone. It did the alternate wail that's not the whooping one. (Thanks ladies and gentlemen.)

Ka‘ena Point State Park Hiking ????????
Happy New Year Hike at Ka'ena Point was absolutely stunning! We only got about a mile in, but saw so much beautiful nature. Keep a close eye on the tide pool close up for little fish and sea urchins, then at the end see if you can spot the small plume of spray from a whale (it was a good half mile off the shore and hard to pick up with the camera, it just appears as a white spot in the video). Hoping to catch some real whale watching video later this month when we take a trip on the whale watching cruise.

KAHALUU, Hawaii- The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency monthly test of the statewide outdoor siren warning system, coordinated with the test of the live audio broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System, is scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 11:45 a.m.
The siren test is a steady one minute tone on all sirens. The steady tone is used to alert the public to any emergency that may pose a threat to life and property. Besides natural hazards, the Emergency Alert System could be used for terrorist incidents or acts of war.
When the siren signal is sounded in your area, tune to any local radio or television station for emergency information and instructions broadcast by emergency management agencies. Participating stations will carry a detailed explanation of what the sirens mean, as well as other related information, during the monthly test.
Tests of outdoor warning sirens and the Emergency Alert System are conducted simultaneously, normally on the first working day of the month, in cooperation with Hawaii’s broadcasting industry. Emergency management and disaster preparedness information is located in the front section of telephone directories in all counties.
