History of Derby Races
Derby races take place all over the world. They originated with the original Derby contested at Epsom in England in 1780 when Edward Stanley, the 12th Earl of Derby, won a coin flip to name the race for 3-year-old horses. The most famous derby in the United States is the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville,. Many derby races have become the most famous race in their respective countries. Derby races have also inspired a culture and lexicon that goes beyond racing.

Journey to the Kentucky Derby Pt.2
Part Two of our Journey to the Kentucky Derby started on Friday morning as we left Nashville and headed into Louisville. We had mapped the 'Makers Mark Distillery' as a place we wanted to stop on our way into town. I am so glad we did, because that was one of the coolest things we had ever done. That is where they make and age ALL of their liquor, even down to the one machine that cuts every single label that goes on every single bottle of Makers Mark....wow! We bought our own bottles of Whisky so that we could hand-dip our very own bottles into the famous Red Wax....so fun/cool! After we finished up there, we headed to our hotel in downtown Louisville which was about 40 mins from the distillery. Our hotel room was great!! We got the penthouse at Marriott since there were four of us.. 2 bed, 2 bath and a kitchen, we loved it. That night we went to the Belle of Louisville Riverboat Dinner Cruise! If you ever go to Louisville...do this! The food was soooooo so yummy, there was a live DJ with a dance floor playing all kinds of fun music...oldies to new stuff. The music plays all throughout the boat..so even while you're on deck you can hear the music....which is where our outside dancing happened :)
The view of the bridges and downtown up until the evening was such a sight. Next is Part 3... Derby Day!!!
