Kayaking - Antelope Canyon (Lake Powell)
#antelopecanyon #kayaking #lakepowell
Antelope Canyon is often considered one of the most beautiful slot canyons in the world. But many people don't realize that the canyon extends into Lake Powell and is one of over ninety canyons you can kayak when visiting Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. All of which means one thing: Lake Powell with more than 2000 miles of shoreline, is one of the Best places to kayak in North America.
Begin by putting in at the Antelope Canyon Marina, then paddle west from the boat ramp and enter the first side canyon on the left. Depending on the water level you can paddle more than three miles up the canyon. Just remember if you want to exit your kayak and hike further to the most popular section of the canyon then you will need both a permit and a guide from the Navajo Nation.

Little Yellowstone, Little Lake Powell, & Little Grand Canyon in Duchesne County, UT
Did you know that you can visit national landmarks in the country by visiting just one county in Utah? Duchesne County has 3 Little landmarks - Little Yellowstone, Little Lake Powell (aka Starvation Reservoir), and Little Grand Canyon (aka Wrinkles Road)
ABOUT LITTLE YELLOWSTONE
Visit Little Yellowstone in Duchesne County. It doesn't have geysers, but you can ATV to it! It is called Little Yellowstone because of the yellow rock formations created by sulfur. There is a river by it that has awesome fishing as well. (Directions below)
What is really cool about this location is that you can climb and hike on and around the rock formations (be careful though, steep ledges and crumbly rock). The trail to get here is rocky but very short. Once you get to the overlook it is beautiful - looks very similar to Bryce Canyon formations.
LITTLE YELLOWSTONE DIRECTIONS:
- Turn north off Hwy 40 in Duchesne at the stop light onto state rd 87.
- Stay on 87 for approximately 15 1/2 miles then turn north(left) toward Mountain Home. Sign will read, Upper Stillwater, Rockcreek, Moon Lake.
- Continue on that road for approximately 8 miles then turn east(right) onto the Yellowstone Canyon road. Sign will read Yellowstone Canyon.
- Cross the bridge and turn north(left) and in approximately 4 1/2 miles you are at the atv trail head.
ABOUT LITTLE LAKE POWELL
Starvation Reservoir in Duchesne County, has been dubbed Little Lake Powell by visitors because of the warm and clear water, and sand cliff formations for cliff jumping.
THINGS TO DO AT STARVATION RESERVOIR:
There are sandy beaches close to or away from campgrounds. If you want to ATV, Knight Hollow campground allows you to camp and ATV at the same time, also close to the lake. There is also RV camping spots with hook-ups. They have a concession stand to rent PWC and boat rentals, water toys, water trampoline, paddle boards, and kayaks (
ABOUT LITTLE GRAND CANYON
Wrinkles Road in Duchesne County has been dubbed Little Grand Canyon. Its at the very bottom of Duchesne County and is not well known to even the locals. The land surronding is flat that opens up into a large canyon.
LITTLE GRAND CANYON DIRECTIONS:
- Approximately 1 mile west of Myton, turn south off of highway 40. Road sign says Pleasant Valley. Sandwash Boat Ramp, Nine Mile Canyon.
- Approximately 1 1/2 miles turn south west(right) . Road sign says Wellington, Wells Draw.
- Approximately 23 miles the pavement ends, continue on dirt road approximately 1 1/2 miles to Sandwash Boat Ramp intersection. Turn east(left).
- You are now on Wrinkles Road. It continues all the way to the Green River(the waterway not the town).

There need to be more places like this! [RVlog #46]
We found a happy place to camp on the shores of Lake Powell. Lone Rock Beach is located on a nice bay and is perfect for kayaking and allows ATV riding. Today we are taking a paddle out to Lone Rock and Ben goes fishing and catches a striper. This is definitely a happy place for us.

Reflection Canyon, Lake Powell
Reflection Canyon is a 20 mile round trip hike located outside of Escalante, Utah. 50 miles of off-road high clearance to trail head. Then 10 miles on foot to the canyon. No water located on very thin minimal trail. Just follow the canyon wall located south east of trail head. Keep eye out for cairns when trail gets thin. Very little foot traffic.
