AMSTERDAM AIRPORT TRANSIT GUIDE // 4 ways to get from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to the city center
This is an airport transit guide for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. It includes 4 ways to get from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to the city center, including Amsterdam Centraal Station.
See the full blog for more info:
Take a taxi/Uber:
There are official Schiphol taxis. Follow the signs on the floor or on the signage above to exit the building to the taxi stand. Don't let anyone offer you a taxi before this point. Go in the taxi stand for the official taxis. You may ask for a flat rate to the city center or it will be approximately €40-50.
To order an Uber, use the app as normal. For the only pick-up spots, follow signs to the car rental desk and exit out the door next to those desks. Cross a few crosswalks to head towards the Sheraton. There is an old bus stop in front of the hotel. Here is the exact point on Google Maps:
An uber will likely cost €30-40.
Take a hotel shuttle:
See if your hotel offers a free hotel shuttle. These will also pick up right outside the door by the car rental desk. OR book a hotel shuttle from Connexxion: This may be around €20
Take the bus:
To take a public transportation bus, head out either door C or D and find the red van selling transportation tickets. A round-trip ticket is €11.25 and is good for 14 days. Or you can get an Amsterdam Travel Ticket which allows for transportation from Schiphol to Amsterdam and around the entire city no matter the company running the transportation. But if you are planning on visiting the whole region (which I highly recommend!), think about getting an Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket. The costs vary by how many days you want.

Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket:
Take the train:
You can use the travel tickets mentioned above, or purchase a one-way ticket (€5.50). Another option if you like to collect the transit cards when you visit a new place (we do!), you can buy an anonymous OV-Chipkaart from the big yellow and blue machines that say Train Tickets. Be sure to have at least €20 if you take the train or it may not let you check in.

Amsterdam, Out of Control - Netherlands HD Travel Channel
During the Boat Parade at Koninginnendag in the Netherlands, Amsterdam is out of control.
At the Eenhoomsluis, the children fasten sweets on a fishing rod and the crews of the passing boats have to pick these up with the mouth. This causes a jam and a chaos before the lock.
Only with great skill, the skipper can maneuver through this traffic chaos. However, everyone remains calm and happy and enjoys the fun.

Summary of Amsterdam:
Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths.
Amsterdam-Rhine Canal:
Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, Dutch Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal, Dutch waterway connecting the port of Amsterdam with the Rhine River. From Amsterdam the canal passes to the southeast through Utrecht on its way to the Waal River near Tiel. Inaugurated in 1952, the canal has a total length of 72 km (45 miles) and contains four locks. It was enlarged in the 1970s and reopened in 1981. It is the most heavily used canal in western Europe and can handle up to four 3,000-ton lighters (unpowered barges) tied together and push-towed by a tug. The canal’s minimum depth is 5.5 metres (18 feet).
United States:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America (/əˈmɛrɪkə/), is a federal republic[16][17] composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] Forty-eight states and the federal district are contiguous and located in North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]
At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2)[20] and with over 324 million people, the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[fn 7] and the third-most populous. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York City; twelve other major metropolitan areas—each with at least 4.5 million inhabitants—are Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Riverside.

Sailing the Netherlands: Amsterdam to Muiden - Three bridges and a Lock
We aren't in Amsterdam anymore:
We're a few miles away at Muiden. This town on the Markermeer is three bridge openings, one lock, and about eight nautical miles from our berth at Marina Westerdok. Our lock and docking techniques werent perfect, but we didn't embarrass ourselves or hit anything, so its all good, as John says.
Sjoerd and Julia were on deck to wave us off as we left just after noon today. Well see them again sometime, I think, especially since weve borrowed charts and almanacs from Sjoerd. He said he would meet us in Friesland to pick them up. The weather was a little on the cool side on the water, but the sun was out and the wind was calm. It was a good first day out after seven plus months at the dock.
Muiden is a pretty town. Its main attractions are water sports facilities and an old castle, Muiderslot. The castle is closed on Mondays, so we wont see the inside of it until Tuesday. We have a nice view of the exterior from our cockpit across the river Vecht. Well leave here Tuesday afternoon after our castle tour and spend Tuesday night at Volendam.
Stealing bikes in Amsterdam
As we are developing a new lock to prevent a thief from stealing your bike, we wondered how hard it would actually be to steal a bike.
We decided to test it ourselves and tried to steal our own bike multiple times in the center of Amsterdam. Check it out to see what happens wen you use a steel handsaw, bolt cutter or grinder to steal a bike in public!

Best Pancakes in Amsterdam
These are the best Dutch pancakes you can eat in Amsterdam, I recommend the bacon pancake with Dutch sugar syrup and the apple pancake with cinnamon sugar.
More on my blog:
The Dutch love pancakes, we even have our own dedicated pancake restaurants. One of the most famous ones being Pancakes Amsterdam!
This lovely place located in the center of Amsterdam serves pancakes with any topping imaginable. Make sure to arrive early or call ahead to avoid long waiting lines due to the popularity of the restaurant.
Dutch pancake differ a lot from their American counterparts, Dutch pancakes are known to be skinny, crisp-edged crepes while the American pancakes are known to be fluffy, thick and calorie-rich.
The bacon pancake with Dutch sugar syrup should definitely be on your list when trying this place out!
