Along Puget Sound
Journey to northwestern Washington State where the BNSF main line reveals the beauty of Puget Sound. Running between Seattle and the Canadian border at Blaine, trains traverse the western portion of the Scenic Subdivision and the entire Bellingham Sub.
Visit the Seattle waterfront and busy yard at Interbay. Follow the shoreline of Puget Sound while viewing several hot spots including Carkeek Park, Richmond Beach, Edmonds, Mukilteo, and Everett.
The scenic shoreline transitions to lush farmland, wild rivers, and secluded coves while passing the charming communities of Stanwood, Mt. Vernon, Burlington, and Bellingham.
Unit coal, crude oil trains, and hot shot intermodals draw the latest high tech diesels, while several locals still sport vintage four axle EMD’s. Besides freight, Amtrak’s Empire Builder, Cascades Talgo sets, and Sounders are everywhere shuffling passengers between busy stations along the line.
This is modern day railroading in the heart of the Pacific Northwest!
Shot in the summer and fall of 2018.

Waygood-Otis Mod. by ? Traction Elevators Onboard the RMS Queen Mary (Ship) in Long Beach, CA
The RMS Queen Mary is a ship permanently docked in Long Beach, CA. The ship was built in Scotland, United Kingdom.
These elevator might have once been separate (not part of a bank), but now they are both part of the same bank of elevators. The right elevator has a rear door (appears to be 2-speed center opening), but it isn't used anymore. It looks like the rear door may have been a manual door. I don't know where the rear door used to open, or if the rear hoistway doors still exist. I think the cab interiors are mostly original.
It is worth noting that the state ID numbers of these 2 elevators most likely do NOT correspond to the age of these elevators (which is very unusual in California). The state of California was not responsible for inspecting the elevators, as this was a ship. The ship was docked in Long Beach in 1967. Most likely fairly soon after this, it was decided that the Queen Mary is legally considered a building, as a lot of the ship's machinery was removed. It would have been at this point that the state of California would have become responsible for inspecting elevators in service onboard the ship. The state ID numbers likely suggest the dates that the elevators were first inspected by the state of California.
The state ID number for the left elevator suggests a date of c. 1968. This date closely matches when the ship was docked in Long Beach and it was decided that the Queen Mary was considered a building.
The state ID number for the right elevator suggests a date of c. 1972. This suggests to me most likely that this elevator may have been decommissioned from c. 1968-c. 1972.
To my knowledge, there are 5 functional elevators that date back to the ship's construction:
Bank of 2 passenger elevators (this video)
1 passenger elevator (now mostly used as a service elevator, next to a decommissioned elevator, unsure if it was once a bank of 2 elevators or if 2 elevators operated separately). This elevator is shown in a future video!
2 service/freight/crew elevators with scissor gate hoistway & car doors (likely next to each other, possibly part of a bank but not sure). It is extremely rare to find an elevator with scissor gate hoistway doors in the United States (there are 1 or 2 others I know of that are not onboard ships). I was not allowed to see or ride these.

Places to see in ( Seattle - USA )
Places to see in ( Seattle - USA )
Seattle, a city on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, and contains thousands of acres of parkland. Washington State’s largest city, it’s home to a large tech industry, with Microsoft and Amazon headquartered in its metropolitan area. The futuristic Space Needle, a 1962 World’s Fair legacy, is its most iconic landmark. The city is situated on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada–United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the fourth-largest port in North America in terms of container handling as of 2015.
First time in Seattle? Cut to the chase and make a beeline for its proverbial pantry: Pike Place Market. It was founded in 1907 to fortify locals with fresh Northwest produce, and its long-held mantra of ‘meet the producer’ still echoes enthusiastically around a city where every restaurateur worth their salt knows the name of their fishmonger and the biography of the cow that became yesterday’s burgers. It doesn’t take long to realize that you’ve arrived in a city of well-educated palates and wildly experimental chefs who are willing to fuse American cuisine with just about anything – as long as it’s local.
Visitors setting out to explore Seattle should think of the city as a United States of Neighborhoods or – to put it in more human terms – a family consisting of affectionate but sometimes errant siblings. There’s the aloof, elegant one (Queen Anne), the cool, edgy one (Capitol Hill), the weird, bearded one (Fremont), the independently minded Scandinavian one (Ballard), the grizzled old grandfather (Pioneer Square) and the precocious adolescent still carving out its identity (South Lake Union). You’ll never fully understand Seattle until you’ve spent a bit of time with them all.
To outsiders, Seattle is an industrious creator of macro-brands. To insiders, it’s a city of micro-businesses and boundary-pushing grassroots movements. For proof, dip into the third-wave coffee shops, the microbreweries with their casual tasting rooms or the cozy informal bookstores that remain rock solid in a city that spawned Amazon. Then there are the latest national trends that Seattle has helped create: craft cider, pot shops, micro-distilleries, specialist pie-makers, homemade ice cream and fledgling nano-breweries. Walk the streets and scour the neighborhoods; there’s far more to this city than Starbucks' vanilla lattes and Boeing airplanes.
It may have nurtured tech giants Microsoft and Amazon, but that doesn’t mean Seattle hasn’t got a surreal, arty side. Crisscross its urban grid and you’ll find all kinds of apparitions: a rocket sticking out of a shoe shop; a museum built to resemble a smashed-up electric guitar; glass orbs in wooden canoes; a statue of Lenin; a mural made of used chewing gum; fish-tossing market traders; and a museum dedicated to antique pinball machines (that you can still play). No, you haven't over-indulged in some powerful (legal) marijuana. You’ve just worked out that Seattle is far more bohemian than beige.

10.) Thrift Store Couch Treasure
Three college roommates from New Paltz, New York bought an old and smelly couch at a local Salvation Army thrift store. One day, while sitting watching T.V, they noticed the couch was pretty uncomfortable and lumpy. Looking into why the couch cushions had so many lumps, the roommates discovered that it was lumps of money.
9.) Roman Coins
One day a farmer discovered a treasure trove of gold coins in his backyard, in Ueken, Switzerland. He reported the find and upon further digging by archaeologists, it was discovered that there were over 4,000 Roman gold coins, which were thought to be more than 1,700 years old! A majority of the coins date back as far as Emperor Aurelian's reign in the year 274, while other coins date from the time of Emperor Maximian in the year 294.
8.) A Rabbi’s Desk
Rabbi Noah Muroff and his wife in Connecticut bought a desk for $150.00 off of Craigslist. This desk, unknown to Noah and his wife at the time, held a treasure trove of cash! The Rabbi couldn’t get his new used desk through the door of his office, so he had to take it apart. Once the pieces were separated enough so they could fit, he discovered a plastic bag with a $100 bill in it.
7.) Recycling Barrel
A worker at a Kentucky recycling plant found a barrel with savings bonds worth about $22,000! Mike Rogers, was working one night when he found the treasure of savings bonds. The savings bonds were found amongst a bunch of scrap metal that had been thrown into the barrel.

During the year 1978, two boys were out playing in their new backyard when they discovered something big and metallic buried in the ground. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that was a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. The police were called and they knew that the Ferrari was not meant to be buried long because it was all wrapped in towels like they had tried to mummify it or something!
5.) Coins in Can
A couple living in California took their dog on their usual daily walk down a path when they noticed a can sticking out of the dirt. It’s actually strange they hadn’t seen them before. After removing some moss and dirt, they uncovered a total of eight cans. They brought the cans back home where they found out the cans were chock full of coins!
4.) Airplane Bathroom
Airplane cleaners for the Middle East discount airline Flydubai hit the jackpot when they found a bunch of gold bars in the lavatory on an airplane. Police believe the 70 pounds of gold bars were actually left there by a gold smuggler who traveled on the flight from Dubai to the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka.

Verde Noir - Chapter 3 - Finding the Money
Sea Change Cannabis is one of the first recreational Washington dispensaries. Marijuana in Washington has a long and dark history. We cut our teeth growing marijuana in the black market and the gray market of medical marijuana. But in legalizing marijuana, Washington State has changed what growing weed means. This web series is our contribution to the conversation.
Verde Noir explores the latest cannabis news, explores cannabis effects and the cannabis plant itself. We explore weed strains, including our beloved Chemdawg. We want to combine weed information with weed humor. We want to go beyond just making funny weed videos and pretty weed pictures, to really share how the weed laws in Washington affect us. As there are more states with legal weed, marijuana laws continue to evolve. We have marijuana for sale in the store, but we want to help explain the effects of marijuana on the brain, and what it is like to smoke weed.
There is a long history of stoner movies, but they also continue to evolve. We believe the best stoner movies include some adult humor, yes, and also some pretty weed pictures – but they will include some stoner music and preferably a little weed cartoon. We have all of that, plus documentary interviews of marijuana growers, a lobbyist, the occasional weed cartoon, and lots of weed smoke (people have to get high).
We like to get stoned and play music, so there is a lot of live music in our videos as well. Cannabis is a funny weed, for sure, and it brings out the humor in more and more legal weed states. Washington marijuana law sets precedents for other states as the sea change spreads across the nation. Marijuana growing has always been part of our culture, but as portrayed in stoner comedies, is filled with stoners and straights. We want to show the variety of experience people have with cannabis and the latest marijuana news.
