Kenya attack: mall attackers are 'defeated', says President Kenyatta
In a television address, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announces that security forces have finally defeated a small group of terrorists after four days in fighting at a Nairobi mall.
In a televised address to the nation Tuesday, Kenyatta said we have ashamed and defeated our attackers.
He said the attack had left 240 casualties, including 61 dead civilians and six of his security forces. He said five terrorists were killed and another 11 suspects have been taken into custody.
The president said three floors of the Westgate mall collapsed and that there are several bodies still trapped in the rubble including the terrorists.
He declared three days of national mourning.

Al-Shabab holds hostages in Kenya mall siege
Armed Somali group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack and ongoing siege of an upscale shopping mall in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi that has left at least 30 people dead and 50 injured. Kenyan security forces have arrested one of the gunmen who attacked the mall on Saturday, the Kenyan presidency said on Twitter. Al Jazeera's Caroline Malone reports.
Al-Shabaab attacks Mandera again, 36 dead
At least 36 people were killed at a quarry at Koromey in Mandera County, North Eastern Kenya this morning by Al-Shabaab militants. All the victims were non-Muslims and most of them are said to have hailed from Nyeri County in Central Kenya. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, the second in two weeks in Mandera County.

When the attack occurred, the workers were sleeping. Al-Shabaab militants raided the residential complex outside Mandera, next to the Somalian border. 14 people were killed, including a brave woman, who asked attackers not to kill people but was shot.

Mandera receives ambulances for medical emergencies
Mandera County Government has put in place measures to help reduce maternal mortality rate, which is one of highest in the World.
Through partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society - emergency medical services department, the county has flagged off six ambulances to help address medical emergencies in the highly prone porous border town.
