The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN) | Texas Gulf Coast
The TMMSN is the only Stranding Network in the State of Texas and receives no state funding and receives only limited institutional support in the form of grants. TMMSN RELIES on the donations of time and funds from generous supporters. There is no other team in the State of Texas with the authority, experience, and ability necessary to care for the marine mammals of the Texas Gulf Coast.
The TMMSN is a non-profit organization created in 1980 to further the understanding and conservation of marine mammals through rescue and rehabilitation, research and education. The TMMSN consists of seven regions along the Texas coast and Louisiana, which provide a coordinated response to all marine mammal strandings.
Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with Heidi Whitehead to learn more about TMMSN.
Under the Marine Mammal Protection Act Section 409.3:
A stranded animal occurs when the animal comes ashore alive under abnormal conditions, is injured close to shore, or washes ashore dead, whether individually or in a group.
A supportive and informed public is vital to the success of the stranding network. Without your help, strandings may go unreported, and animals that could be saved may die. Financial support is also imperative to the TMMSN's growth. As a non-profit organization, the TMMSN exists primarily on contributions from individuals and corporations.

Perils Of The Sea
Friday, Rohan brought our viewers to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine NJ which has become a safe haven for injured and ill seals from multiple states along the Atlantic coastline.
The group took in eight seals, all with various ailments. One had been bitten by a great white shark before it let that seal pup go. It's recovering now.
The last seal we brought you was being prepared for a voyage out to sea, to her home. The seal all healed, Rohan hit the Sandy Hook beach where a crowd gathered to cheer on the recovered seal as she entered the Atlantic Ocean.

Seals: Cute Or Lunch?
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine has become a safe haven for injured seals from New Jersey and surrounding states.
The center, dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of stranded or stressed marine life stepped up to the plate when injured seals surrounding areas had nowhere to go for help.
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center took action and took in eight seals to heal and rehabilitate them to release back into the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the seals was attacked by a great white shark, the center said.

Dolphin Cover-Up?
What killed Old Bridge's South River dolphin? That's what reporter Carly Sitrin wanted to find out after the dolphin died in August.
Sitrin filed an open public records request with the state Department of Agriculture for the animal's necropsy results. Shockingly, DOA denied her request six months later out of respect to the individual privacy of the dolphin.
What kind of legal privacy does a dolphin deserve? Sitrin was especially baffled, as the state has released other necropsy reports.
J. Patrick Brown of MuckRock.com, an online public records resource and investigative journalism site, said New Jersey has a growing record of problematic OPRA denials in the last year.
But according to Bob Schoelkoplf of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, the organization that rescued the dolphin, this is a big misunderstanding. He says the MMSC commissioned the state to conduct the necropsy, so the test results belong to him, not the state.
Schoelkopf said the Department of Agriculture should simply have redirected Sitrin to his organization instead of denying her request outright.
Cleaner Water Brings More Seals To NJ Beaches
WHY SO MANY SEALS?
Six stranded seals were released on the beach at Sandy Hook by volunteers and workers with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, NJ.
Brian was on hand -- with wellies on his feet -- to watch five of them swim off into the Atlantic. The stranding center has seen a recent spike in reports of stranded seals this year on top of a years-long trend of larger seal populations in NJ and NY waters.
What's going on? Stranding center officials say part of the problem is humans who see young seal pups lounging on the beach to rest, assume something is wrong and try to help by throwing water on the seals or feeding them. That just makes things worse and the seals wind up needing to be brought in for rest and fattening up at the Brigantine facility. When it's over and they're ready to be released, it provides a beautiful sight for onlookers and our Chasing News cameras.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
This is a list of existing, reputable, public aquariums in the United States. For zoos, see List of zoos in the United States.
Aquariums are facilities where animals are confined within tanks and displayed to the public, and in which they may also be bred. Such facilities include public aquariums, oceanariums, marine mammal parks, and dolphinariums.
