Torino travel (places to visit in one day in Turin)
Turin, as the former capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Kingdom of Italy, is home of the Savoy Residences. In addition to the 17th-century Royal Palace, built for Madama Reale Christine Marie of France (the official residence of the Savoys until 1865) there are many palaces, residences and castles in the city centre and in the surrounding towns. Turin is home to Palazzo Chiablese, the Royal Armoury, the Royal Library, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Carignano, Villa della Regina, and the Valentino Castle. The complex of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy in Turin and in the nearby cities of Rivoli, Moncalieri, Venaria Reale, Agliè, Racconigi, Stupinigi, Pollenzo and Govone was declared a World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1997. In recent years, Turin has become an increasingly popular tourist destination, ranking 203rd in the world and 10th in Italy in 2008, with about 240,000 international arrivals.[11]
The inside of the Egyptian Museum, the second largest in the world after the one in Cairo
The Egyptian Museum of Turin specialises in archaeology and anthropology, in particular the Art of Ancient Egypt. It is home to what is regarded as one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities outside of Egypt. In 2006 it received more than 500,000 visitors.[47] The Museum of Oriental Art houses one of the most important Asian art collections in Italy.[48][49]
Other museums include the National Museum of Cinema, the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile, the Museum of Human Anatomy Luigi Rolando, the Museo delle Marionette (puppet museum) and the Museo Nazionale della Montagna (National Museum of the Mountains).
The city is home to the well-known Shroud of Turin: a linen cloth bearing the image of a man who appears to have suffered physical trauma in a manner consistent with crucifixion. It is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in the city centre. The origins of the shroud and its image are still the subject of intense debate among scientists, theologians, historians and researchers. It is popularly believed to be a depiction of Jesus Christ, however this matter is still controversial, as there seems to be a sufficient amount of historical and scientific evidence supporting the idea that it is, or is not, the Holy Face of Jesus. Nonetheless, it is a symbol of religious devotion and is one of the city's main symbols and tourist attractions.
After it had been little more than a town for a long time, in 1559 the Duke Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy made Turin the capital of his domains. The Duke had ambition to transform the city into a major artistic and cultural capital, and in the following centuries numerous artists were to work at the Savoy court, especially architects and planners like Carlo di Castellamonte and his son Amedeo, Guarino Guarini and, in the 18th century, Filippo Juvarra and Benedetto Alfieri.

Johanes Faust by Slovak Marionette Theatre
Slovak Marionette Theatre
resumes the tradition of the historical puppet plays that the European comedians have been performing for four centuries. In Slovakia this tradition began at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Anton Anderle from Banská Bystrica successfully continued in this tradition as the only puppeteer in the Central Europe, and won worldwide recognition by his exceptional performance. The tradition faded away after this phenomenal puppeteer unexpectedly passed away in 2008.
The Dezorzs Puppets Theatre established Slovak Marionette Theatre to demonstrate respect to the old master puppeteers and this beautiful tradition. We resurrected the tradition and helped puppets to abandon the museums and entertain audiences of all ages. In our theatre we animate historical and one hundred years old puppets. The puppets will play old stories full of wit, folk wisdom, adventure and romance for all of you, i.e. individuals and families, adults and children.

Le marionette e i bambini - 10 maggio 2012
Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago.
Master Mauro Sarzi and the musician Daniele Sanna introduced the puppets through a lecture explaining the history of this ancient performative art. They also explained how the art of puppets can be used to cure children and adults, together with music, acting and painting: these arts can help getting through several deseases and disabilities.
Mauro Sarzi belongs to a family of five generations of puppeteers. He started working with his father Otello, who collaborated with several leading personalities of cinema, literature and music, such as Federico Fellini, Gianni Rodari, Cesare Zavattini and Ennio Morricone. In 1969 Mauro Sarzi founded the Teatro delle Mani, moving to Cagliari. It is the first theatre completely dedicated to children. This company has been recognized by the Ministry of Education, and was rewarded by President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi for the creation of the prize Fiabe in pillole. Together with the musiscian Daniele Sanna, and through the Onlus Le Mani dei Sardi, Mauro Sarzi cooperates with various Foundations, care centers, hospitals, universities, associations and societies, included UNICEF, making his art available for a variety of purposes, such as making hospitals children - friendly, or, in the social context, recovering troubled teens in Juvenile Institutions.
In his book, Carlo Baldi tells about the Sarzi family, very famous in Italy and Europe. As one of the most representative families in the Italian artistic panorama, the Sarzi family is part of that connective tissue made of theater, poetry, music and painting, that accompained and drew the Italian Risorgimento and the identity of united Italy, with subtle intellect and sharp humour.
