Marshall's Beach - San Francisco
One of the best-kept secrets in San Francisco was once accessed only by brave souls willing to scramble down bluffs through poison oak and pricklers. Today, Marshall's Beach is easily reached by the eco-friendly Batteries to Bluffs Trail courtesy of Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Wooden stairs and dirt paths wind down to the most private beach in town. Bring a picnic and dine on views spanning the Golden Gate, from Land's End in San Francisco to Marin's Point Bonita Lighthouse. The views are so good you might just be inspired to strip down to your knickers. Yep, like many secret beaches, Marshall's Beach is favored by the clothing-optional crowd. Enjoy the sunset (or full moon).
Park at one of two entrances on Lincoln Blvd. in the Presidio. One is just south of Fort Scott, on the west side of the road near the Coyote Crossing sign, and the other is about .5 mile south down Lincoln Blvd. with a small Batteries to Bluffs sign on the west side of the road (map). At either entrance, follow the Batteries to Bluffs Trail toward Marshall's Beach. It's .3 mile (one-way) to the beach. You can also make a loop (approximately 1.2 miles) by using the California Coastal Trail to bring you back to your starting point. No dogs.

Searching for the Best Golden Gate Bridge Photo Spot
In San Francisco, I'm looking for the best place for photography of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Find my photography of The Golden Gate Bridge on IG at @brendanvanson.
Here in San Francisco, I woke up early this morning to try a couple new photo locations. I wanted to get a cool photo of the Golden Gate Bridge. And, the truth is, there are hundreds of places to shoot photography of the bridge. And, in the past, I've shot a number of different locations already. Some have been amazing, some have been let downs. Today, I started with Baker Beach.
A good photo spot for the Golden Gate Bridge should have an interesting vantage point. And, in my photography, an important thing is having a foreground to the photo. Baker Beach just didn't have that. And, to be honest, in my scramble to try to find somewhere cool to shoot, I really didn't get a photo at all. But, I pushed over to Marshall's beach.
Marshall's Beach is actually the best place to photograph the golden gate bridge. It's close, it's got lots of cool foregrounds, and there is just a lot of drama there. After taking a couple pictures, I headed back into San Francisco to get @alajode to explore Fisherman's Wharf and some other spots.
Then, in the evening, we went looking for another Golden Gate Bridge photography location. This time, we headed to Fort Baker on the opposite side of the bridge. It made for a really cool place to take pictures. And, though the light was not great. I got some cool photos here.
Tomorrow, on the photography channel, I'm going to Marin Headlands; famously known among locals for being the best place to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge.

Jobless But Not Hopeless - Episode 1 - Marshall's Beach San Francisco
First Vlog, short and sweet. I've just quit my job because I'm ready to move on and want to do something different. Before I hop into the next job I am taking some time off to travel and have some time for myself. That's why I made this video so I could get used to doing this since I want to document my solo travel coming up.
Thank you!

Visit to Marshall's Beach
After dropping off Tori and Dad at the airport I decided to discover a new beach in San Francisco. I had read that Marshall's beach was one of the more secluded beaches in the city, and now I understand why. You have to go down a couple hundred stairs to get there, plus many inclines. But I would say that it is worth it. It is pretty similar to many other San Francisco beaches in that the water is too cold for the average person to swim in. You can also get really close to Fort Point as it stops at a fence right next to the fort. I did really like the beach, and I only saw about 12 people there the whole time on this beautiful day, so overall I would definitely recommend it.

WHAT TO DO IN SAN FRANCISCO |Alcatraz, Golden Gate, Marshall’s Beach, Lombard Street, Haight-Ashbury
What a beautiful city, had to vlog this trip. September to November are undoubtedly the best months to visit San Francisco since autumn here tends to be surprisingly warm and rain free. We had a great time exploring the city via vintage tram and cable car, tasted the famed clam chowder and Dungeness crab in a cioppino seafood stew and had local craft beer. Hotels in San Francisco tend to be rather expensive so if you book a car as well and plan on going further to Silicon Valley or Sequoia National Park, Airbnb is the way to go. I have linked all the honorable mentions below, make sure to check them out and leave your own suggestions in the comments section!
# Cable Car tickets & roadmap:
# Boudin Bakery & Museum: bistroboudin.com
# Pier 39 Sea Lions Live Online Webcam! (only the most adorable thing)
# Tickets for the Alcatraz Tour:
# Best San Francisco cioppino & Dungeness crab : No reservation needed!
# Take the Powell/Hyde cable car which stops at the top of Lombard Street and then you can work your way down through the narrow pathways or just enjoy the views from the top before hopping on another cable car!
# Did not get a chance to do it, but the Salesforce tower tour gives some amazing views from the top and it’s free! Just book your spot at this link :

We do this hike frequently, take a Lyft over chain up the car seat & head down to the beach. One of our favorite spots.
