Mehtab bagh agra ||
Friends - This video has been told about Mehtab Bagh. Mehtab Bagh is a beautiful garden which is a tourist spot, but local and foreign tourists visit here every day. Mehtab Bagh is a beautiful garden and this garden is located near the village of Kachpura of Agra. From here the Taj Mahal can be seen very beautifully because the Taj Mahal is clearly visible from here. Mehtab Bagh is situated on the bank of Yamuna river and just behind Taj Mahal. The fee for admission to Mehtab Bag has to be paid. For the citizens of India, admission fee is to be given at the rate of 25 rupees per person. Mehtab Bagh was built between 1631 to 1635 AD. Mehtab Bagh means moonlight.

Mehtab Bagh in Agra
Mehtab bagh is one of the popular Mogul gardens of Agra. It is situated very near to Taj Mahal on the other side of Yamuna River. Although the aireal distance between Taj Mahal and Mehtab bagh is as less as 100 meters the distance by road is about 5 kms. Cycle rikshaw and Tumtum charge about 100 rs and Auto rikshaw charge about 150 rs for this distance.
Mehtab bagh is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. You have to buy an entry ticket of Rs 30/- to go inside. As you can see in the video there is nothing to see in Mehtab bagh. The garden is very poorly maintained. One of the reasons people come to Mehtab bagh is to get a nice view of Taj Mahal. But since cameras are now allowed inside Taj Mahal there is no need to take pictures from Mehtab bagh. By and large our experience in Mehtab bagh was very disappointing. If you have less time in Agra you can very much remove this place from your list.
Mehtab Bagh (Black Taj Mahal) : Heritage Tour at Agra Part 4
Here's Part 4 of our new Heritage Tour series as we explore Agra :)
(text from wikipedia)
Mehtab Bagh (Hindi: मेहताब बाग़, Urdu: مہتاب باغ, translation: Moonlight Garden) is a charbagh complex in Agra, North India. It lies north of the Taj Mahal complex and the Agra Fort on the opposite side of the Yamuna River, in the flood plains. The garden complex, square in shape, measures about 300 by 300 metres (980 ft × 980 ft) and is perfectly aligned with the Taj Mahal on the opposite bank. During the rainy season, the ground becomes partially flooded.
The Mehtab Bagh garden was the last of eleven Mughal-built gardens along the Yamuna opposite the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort;[2] the first being Ram Bagh.[5] It is mentioned that this garden was built by Emperor Babur (d. 1530).[5] It is also noted that Emperor Shah Jahan had identified a site from the crescent-shaped, grass-covered floodplain across the Yamuna River as an ideal location for viewing the Taj Mahal. It was then created as a moonlit pleasure garden called Mehtab Bagh. White plaster walkways, airy pavilions, pools and fountains were also created as part of the garden, with fruit trees and narcissus.[6] The garden was designed as an integral part of the Taj Mahal complex in the riverfront terrace pattern. Its width was identical to that of the rest of the Taj Mahal.[2] Legends attributed to the travelogue of the 17th century French traveler Jean Baptiste Tavernier mention Shah Jahan's wish to build a Black Taj Mahal for himself, as a twin to the Taj Mahal; however, this could not be achieved as he was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb. This myth had been further fueled in 1871 by a British archaeologist, A.C.L. Carlleyle, who, while discovering the remnants of an old pond at the site had mistaken it for the foundation of the fabled structure.[2] Thus, Carlleyle became the first researcher to notice structural remains at the site, albeit blackened by moss and lichen.[4] Mehtab Bagh was later owned by Raja Man Singh Kacchawa of Amber, who also owned the land around the Taj Mahal[7]
Frequent floods and villagers extracting building materials nearly ruined the garden. Remaining structures within the garden were in a ruinous state. By the 1990s, the garden's existence was almost forgotten and it had degraded to little more than an enormous mound of sand, covered with wild vegetation and alluvial silt.
More Info:
The Black Taj Mahal (Black Taj, Kaala Taj, also the 2nd Taj) is a legendary black marble mausoleum that is said to have been planned to be built across the Yamuna River opposite the Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. Mughal emperor Shah Jahan is said to have desired a mausoleum for himself similar to that of the one he had built in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.[1][unreliable source?]
A European traveller by the name of Jean Baptiste Tavernier who visited Agra in 1665 first mentioned the idea of Black Taj in his fanciful writings. The writings of Tavernier mention that Shah Jahan began to build his own tomb on the other side of the river but could not complete it as he was deposed by his own son Aurangzeb. However, many modern archaeologists believe this story to be myth.[2]
Ever since the construction of Taj Mahal, the building has been the source of an admiration transcending culture and geography, and so personal and emotional responses have consistently eclipsed scholastic appraisals of the monument.
— Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, one of the first European visitors to the Taj Mahal
The belief holds that Shah Jahan planned a mausoleum to be built in black marble across the Yamuna river, with the two structures connected by a bridge. The idea originates from fanciful writings of Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, a European traveller who visited Agra in 1665. It was suggested that Shah Jahan was overthrown by his son Aurangzeb before it could be built. Ruins of blackened marble across the river in Moonlight Garden, Mahtab Bagh, seemed to support this legend

India Vlog: Agra Fort, Baby Taj, Taj Mahal Sunset!
February 14, 2015
instagram.com/timandglo
We were up early to catch our 6:00 am train from New Delhi Railway Station to Agra Fort Railway Station in Agra, Uttar Pradesh! Agra is home to what is arguably India's most famous cultural site: Taj Mahal! We didn't actually visit Taj Mahal on this day, opting to save it for a sunrise visit the following day. But we visited a couple other amazing places in Agra, which provided stunning view of Taj Mahal!
We booked our train tickets online before we arrived in India. You can create an account with IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation), which runs India's train e-ticketing system at You'll need an IRCTC account to book trains on sites like ClearTrip and MakeMyTrip. Hint: You don't need an Indian telephone number to register an account. Just make one up. ;)
We sat in the AC Chair Car Cabin, which was extremely comfortable. Cozy seats and free water, newspapers, and a hot meal!
Once in Agra, we took a rickshaw to the Radisson Blu. This is a beautiful hotel close to the east gate of Taj Mahal. They provide an excellent buffet breakfast!
We paid 1,850 rupees for an all day 4x4 car rental and guide, which we split with our friends. We used the car to see three sites: Agra Fort, the Tomb of I'timad-ud-Daulah (aka. baby Taj or little Taj), and Mehtab Bagh.
Of all the forts we saw in India on this trip, Agra Fort was our favorite! You can get amazing views of Taj Mahal from Agra Fort! Baby Taj is also worth a visit!
Finally we went to to Mehtab Bagh, a park located across the river from Taj Mahal. The way the light hits the Taj during the sunset is very romantic.
Traffic leaving Mehtab Bagh was horrible! It literally took an hour to drive a couple hundred meters. You've been warned. :p But it's worth it! :)
We were exhausted, so we had dinner at the restaurant in the lobby of Radisson Blu. We went for hearty burgers. Glo had chicken burger and Tim had a buffalo burger. Because cows are sacred in India, beef burgers are impossible to find. Fortunately, our chicken and buffalo burgers were delicious!
We hope everyone had a happy Valentine's Day!!
As always, thank you for watching!!

EVERYTHING TO SEE in Agra BEYOND the Taj Mahal | Agra, India
During my second day in Agra we headed out to see everything beyond the Taj Mahal. From the Baby Taj to Agra Fort, there is so much more to see in Agra!
TRAVEL HUSTLE REPEAT GEAR ►
MY FILM MAKING KIT ►
Our first stop of the day was the Baby Taj also known as the Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah. The tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah is often regarded as a draft of the Tāj Mahal. It is a beautiful building and place most people skip when visiting Agra.
Next we headed to the Mehtab Bagh which is also known as the royal gardens. From here you get some of the best views of the Taj Mahal. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to visit the gardens.
The last site on our tour was Agra Fort, it was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. The Agra fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Agra Fort is a wall city with many palaces within it.
To end our tour we headed to The Master Chef restaurant to try some Petha. This sweet is famous in Agra. It's a translucent soft candy. usually rectangular or cylindrical, it is made from the ash gourd vegetable. It's extremely hard and sweet!
This is really everything you must see beyond the Taj Mahal. Most people only visit Agra for a day but I recommend you spend two nights to be able to see all the main sites and the Taj Mahal.

Trip to Black Taj Mahal and Mehtab Bagh Agra
Mehtab bagh is one and last of the 11 bagh developed by mughals. Mehtab bagh is situated at the bank of yamuna, just opposite to tajmahal. Picturesque view of tajmahal from Mehtab bagh is the key to attract tourists here. A story is also belongs to mehtab bagh that shahjahan was intrested to built a replica of tajmahal of black stone named black tajmahal here as his own graveyard. But there is no evidence found in excavation related to black tajmahal

Restoration of the Mehtab Bagh began after the ASI survey, setting new standards for Mughal garden research. This included a surface survey, historical documentation, paleobotanical assessment, archaeological excavation techniques, and requirements coordination with the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, and Planning. Restoration began in the 1990s, aided by the Americans, during which barbed-wire fencing was added to the Mehtab Bagh site.

Taj Mahal के चांदनी रात में होंगे दीदार | Mehtab Bagh view point opens up | Agra
State minister GS Dharmesh

Gardeners at Mehtab Bagh, Agra
Tajmahal View From Mehtab Bagh, Agra, India
Mehtab Bagh is a 25 acre garden constructed during 1631 to 1635 alongside the beautiful Yamuna river and is one of the most beautiful baghs (gardens) in the city that is a hit among the locals and the tourists alike. The garden is a hotspot because of its exquisite location parallel to the ever majestic Taj Mahal. The garden is also called as the Moonlight garden as it gives a splendid view of the Taj in the moonlit nights. The Garden is not only known for its location but is also loved for being an exhibition of the Mughal Empire’s grandeur. From the fragrance of the varied species of flowers to the cool breeze flowing over the adjacent river make the visitors go crazy. Recently, archaeological excavations have unearthed an octagonal tank which has 25 fountains and a bardari on the east. History and beauty come together beautifully to create a visual feast here, with an aura of resounding peace.
The Mahtab-Bagh is laid out in perfects symmetry and alignment with the Taj Mahal, and there is absolutely no doubt that it was planned and built as an integral part of the original design of the Taj Mahal, during the period from 1631 to 1635 A.D. It seems to have been named ‘Mahtab-Bagh’ (The Moon Garden) because it is an ideal place for viewing the Taj Mahal in moonlight.
