Hilton Head Island is part of the Lowcountry region in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It's known for Atlantic Ocean beaches and golf courses. The Harbour Town Lighthouse and Museum marks the southwest tip. The Coastal Discovery Museum features heritage buildings, trees and themed gardens. Between the island and mainland, the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge salt marsh hosts deer, alligators and birds.
Hilton Head Island is a vacation playland with famous beaches and great golf courses that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Across Port Royal Sound, tony Hilton Head Island is South Carolina's largest barrier island and one of America's top golf spots. There are dozens of courses, many enclosed in posh private residential communities (historically known as 'plantations,' now often called 'resorts'). The island was the first eco-planned destination in the USA. Founder Charles Fraser believed a resort should blend with nature, so subdued colors, strict zoning laws (no building over five stories high, signage must be low and lit from below) and a distinct lack of streetlights characterize the environment here. But while summer traffic and miles of stoplights can stifle an appreciation of the beauty of the island, you can find some lush nature preserves, wide, white beaches hard-packed enough for bike riding, and a whole lot of dolphins.

Tucked behind a tiny neighborhood, this hidden gem just had a facelift as part of the 2016 Beach Restoration. It's quiet, and it's so far north you can see Paris Island.

Mitchellville Beach Park
Today, June 8th, 2010 - This is my second video cover of Hilton Head Island's coastline. This video is of Mitchellville Beach Park on the north end of the island facing Port Royal Sound. Low Tide is the best time to visit this beach. As you can see it was a beautiful sunny day. Weather - upper 80's, winds, 10 miles per hour, sunny, blue skies. Water - warm, clean, clear. Great for tanning, finding seashells, walking. Sharks like to feed here so swimming is not advised.
Thank you for watching my video :)

2009 Marsh Tacky races on Mitchelville Beach, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Raw footage of the Marsh Tacky races Sunday, February 22, 2009, on Mitchelville Beach, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
From The Island Packet: Fifteen marsh tacky horses raced on the brown, wet sand of low tide at Mitchelville Beach as part of the island's Gullah Celebration. It has been more than 40 years since the short, stocky breed has galloped beside Port Royal Sound, the revival of a longtime Gullah and native islander tradition.
From Wikipedia: The Carolina Marsh Tacky or Marsh Tacky is a rare breed of horse, native to South Carolina. Its ancestry can be traced back for over 400 years, but today there are very few representatives left and it is considered an endangered breed.
