Biking in Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
On my birthday on October 8, 2018 (just 3 days before heavy weather from Hurricane Michael blew through the area), and while we were vacationing on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, I took a peaceful and serene and casual bicycle ride through Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Queens Folly Road -- on a sunny fall morning -- from the entrance to the resort out by William Hilton Parkway (Highway 278) all the way back to Barrington Arms at the south end of the resort. This ride is almost a spiritual experience given its scenic and breathtaking beauty, and was truly one of the best activities of my week on HHI this year.

Places to see in ( Hilton Head - USA )
Hilton Head Island is part of the Lowcountry region in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It's known for Atlantic Ocean beaches and golf courses. The Harbour Town Lighthouse and Museum marks the southwest tip. The Coastal Discovery Museum features heritage buildings, trees and themed gardens. Between the island and mainland, the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge salt marsh hosts deer, alligators and birds.
Hilton Head Island is a vacation playland with famous beaches and great golf courses that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Across Port Royal Sound, tony Hilton Head Island is South Carolina's largest barrier island and one of America's top golf spots. There are dozens of courses, many enclosed in posh private residential communities (historically known as 'plantations,' now often called 'resorts'). The island was the first eco-planned destination in the USA. Founder Charles Fraser believed a resort should blend with nature, so subdued colors, strict zoning laws (no building over five stories high, signage must be low and lit from below) and a distinct lack of streetlights characterize the environment here. But while summer traffic and miles of stoplights can stifle an appreciation of the beauty of the island, you can find some lush nature preserves, wide, white beaches hard-packed enough for bike riding, and a whole lot of dolphins.

ATLANTIC BEACH ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS, SOUTH CAROLINA
Town of Atlantic Beach Police Lt. Randy Fisher ignoring the Town's purported ordinances against alcohol consumption in public and against creating disturbing noise. The annual Atlantic Beach Bikefest was not scheduled to start until noon of the next day. Lt. Fisher later stopped this videographer and warned him that a complaint of harassment had been made by the Town Manager's wife. Apparently, Atlantic Beach officials, and their spouses, cannot stand to have anyone document their failures.
The Town has failed to pay this videographer $5,000, as ordered by a circuit Court Judge, due to the Town's failures to comply with state and local law.
And so the Town retaliates through harassment by its police department personnel.

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Sea Pines Forest Preserve HD (2017)
Hilton Head Island, sometimes referred to as simply Hilton Head, is a Lowcountry resort town and barrier island in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. It is 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Savannah, Georgia, and 95 miles (153 km) southwest of Charleston. The island is named after Captain William Hilton, who in 1663 identified a headland near the entrance to Port Royal Sound, which he named Hilton's Head after himself. The island features 12 miles (19 km) of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular vacation destination. In 2004, an estimated 2.25 million visitors pumped more than $1.5 billion into the local economy. The year-round population was 37,099 at the 2010 census, although during the peak of summer vacation season the population can swell to 150,000. Over the past decade, the island's population growth rate was 32%. Hilton Head Island is a primary city within the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 207,413 in 2015.
The island has a rich history that started with seasonal occupation by Native Americans thousands of years ago, and continued with European exploration and the Sea Island Cotton trade. It became an important base of operations for the Union blockade of the Southern ports during the Civil War. Once the island fell to Union troops, hundreds of ex-slaves flocked to Hilton Head, which is still home to many native islanders, many of whom are descendants of freed slaves known as the Gullah (or Geechee) who have managed to hold on to much of their ethnic and cultural identity.
The Town of Hilton Head Island incorporated as a municipality in 1983 and is well known for its eco-friendly development. The town's Natural Resources Division enforces the Land Management Ordinance which minimizes the impact of development and governs the style of buildings and how they are situated amongst existing trees. As a result, Hilton Head Island enjoys an unusual amount of tree cover relative to the amount of development. Approximately 70% of the island, including most of the tourist areas, is located inside gated communities. However, the town maintains several public beach access points, including one for the exclusive use of town residents, who have approved several multimillion-dollar land-buying bond referendums to control commercial growth.
Hilton Head Island offers an unusual number of cultural opportunities for a community its size, including plays at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, the 120-member full chorus of the Hilton Head Choral Society, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, an annual outdoor, tented wine tasting event on the east coast, and several other annual community festivals. It also hosts the Heritage Golf Classic, a PGA Tour tournament played on the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines Resort.

Barrington Rentals - Palmetto Dunes - Hilton Head Island, SC Vacation Rentals
The Barrington Beachfront Villa Complex
The Barrington Villas complexes in Palmetto Dunes Resort are three distinct groups with common areas shared by residents of all. Barrington Arms and Barrington Court are on the oceanfront, two five-story buildings where you can make the most of the pristine setting. A seasonally heated oceanfront pool, enclosed hot tub and observation deck are nestled among beautifully kept landscaping rich with the canopy of native live oak trees, swaying pines, rustling palmettos, and semi-tropical flowering shrubs. Ocean boardwalks are accessible via paved pathways and lead to fully equipped shower facilities for convenience. Guests can take advantage of the covered gazebo for picnicking and grilling and enjoy the atmosphere of this luxury resort.
Barrington Arms villas are oceanfront flats, with 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms of varying décor and a variety of layouts to meet your specific needs. The building is designed as a wide inverted V, with its point facing the beach, so that each villa has a direct view of the Atlantic Ocean. The five-story building has elevator service from the ground-level garage to the floors above.
Barrington Court Villas occupy a five-story building that also has a ground level garage under the residential floors. This building has a narrower profile than Barrington Arms, but each of these one-, two- and three-bedroom villas commands a wonderful ocean view as well.
Barrington Park is a cluster of four two-story buildings that are set back from the beach. Barrington Park Villas are 1, 2, and 3-bedroom single-story units ringing a central lagoon behind Barrington Arms and Barrington Court. Parking is at curbside, and there are no elevators to second floor flats, but the stairways to these units are covered.
When vacationing at the Barrington you are at the center of one of Hilton Head Island's most popular resort plantations. Palmetto Dunes, which was recently named one of the top of its kind in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, features an abundance of activity options that the whole family will enjoy. The amenities available are endless with three championship golf courses, a world-renowned tennis facility and an 11-mile lagoon system that can be explored by kayak, canoe or the fishing enthusiast. The close proximity to the Hilton, Crowne Plaza and Marriott hotels allows for a nice evening stroll or ride along the bike path to access additional resort amenities.
The beautiful beaches are the perfect place to unwind and take in the serenity and privacy of the location. Great dining and shopping options are nearby at Shelter Cove Marina located on Broad Creek and at the Shelter Cover Mall. In addition, the nearby Arts Center of Coastal Carolina offers great cultural entertainment activities.
At The Barrington at Palmetto Dunes, you'll find everything that you need to make your lasting vacation memories for years to come.
