Today we are doing one of the best hikes in Whangarei, the Mount Manaia Track! The Whangarei Heads walk takes about one hour to climb Mt Manaia with some epic scenery and views in Whangarei. While the Mt Manaia Track is a must-do in Northland NZ, our walk is cut short when we need to rush Robin to the hospital! We have some real New Zealand youtubers drama for you in this episode.

Back in November 2014 when we first met, we did our first hike together which was up here in Northland New Zealand..
Mount Manaia is a dominant landmark approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Whangarei city on the Whangarei Heads peninsula.

The Mount Manaia Track is one of the best Short Walks according to DOC New Zealand. 1100 steps through the native bush brings you to top where you can enjoy breathtaking views over the whole region. Only 40 minutes from Whangarei and 2-3 hours from Auckland. The perfect day hike and easy to combine with Te Whara Loop.

Mt Manaia, Whangarei Heads: 1,100 Steps To Glory
The Mount Manaia track can be found at Whangarei Heads. On their first Away Adventure to Northland, Chris and Dan led the Waitakere Walks group to the summit of Mount Manaia and learn the Maori tale of five people running an eerie race along the mountaintop.
Along the way, they found some absolutely stunning views of Whangarei Harbour and Bream Bay.

Hey Lees. This is a video I filmed last year, but have been too lazy to edit and upload until now. Also, it was our first 50fps video, however - I'm not trying it again as it downgrades the quality of the video terribly.
We go up Mount Manaia, a mini 403 metre high mountain, with cool looking jagged rocks from volcanic activity and stuff. It's about 30 kilometres southeast of Whangarei city and is located in the Whangarei Heads peninsula.

It is located 28 kilometers southeast on the Whangarei Heads Penininsula. Gizlle and I drove two hours north of Auckland to tackle this beauty of a track.

Mount Manaia, Top of the Chimney, Whangarei Heads
Notice that there wasn't a clear video of Mt. Manaia Chimney, so here you go!
This is at the top of the Chimney. Once you have climbed past that one sketchy section where you have that BIG drop to your right, there is a nice vegetation area about 4 feet long. After that you climb the rest of the rock which is pretty easy to do. If you don't want to climb past that sketchy section you could climb up the back of the chimney. To do the back there is a lot more actual rock climbing initially but you won't have to worry about slipping and falling to your death! :-)
