The Rainbow Falls, Māori name Waianiwaniwa, , are a single-drop waterfall located on the Kerikeri River near Kerikeri in New Zealand. Unlike most New Zealand waterfalls which are created by the erosion of soft rock, the Rainbow Falls are sited on a hard basalt layer of rock beside softer mudstone. The falls were formed when water eroded the mudstone. John Peter Russell was an Australian impressionist painter. Born and raised in Sydney, Russell moved to Europe in his late teenage years to attend art school. A tall and athletic man's man, popular with other students, Russell befriended fellow pupil Vincent Van Gogh. New Zealand Road Trip - North Island

This is the first chapter of Sakaw Travelling's adventure in New Zealand. In this video, We roamed all around North Island in just 3 days. We're roadtripping from Auckland, Matamata, Rotorua, Taupo, Waitomo, and Coromandel Peninsula. Yes, it's possible. Well, if it were up to us, we wouldn't mind staying there for a month or two. But in Indonesia the maximum amount of office leaves we get is just 12 days for a year. So yeah, this is the best we can get. Stay tuned for the second chapter, the astonishing south island of New Zealand. :)

Everyone talks about visiting the South Island of New Zealand, but we think you should also visit the North Island. It’s stunning.

Before heading to our next WWOOFing exchange, we rented a car and explored the Northland Region of the North Island for five days. We could have spent another week here, it’s THAT gorgeous!

We take you on a journey of the North, exploring beaches and bays along the way. Stops include: Goat Island Marine Reserve, Ngunguru, Rarawa Beach, Waikato Bay, Matai Bay, Karikari Beach, Cape Reinga, Te Paki Giant Sand Dunes.

12. Napier Art Deco
Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. It also has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue on Marine Parade called Pania of the Reef.

11. Coromandel Peninsula
The Coromandel Peninsula is on the north-eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand. There are fabulous golden and white sand beaches with magnificent coastal scenery and a rugged, forest cloaked interior waiting to be explored. This peninsula separates the Hauraki Gulf and coasts around Auckland from the Bay of Plenty.

Rugby Union is New Zealand's national game and governing sporting preoccupation. 6. Tongariro Alpine Crossing
A 19.4km walk across the volcanic landscape of Mount Tongariro, taking 6 to 8 hours. Said by some to be the best one-day walk in the world. Steep climbs, great views and colourful lakes. The track reopened in May 2013 after being closed by eruptions in 2012.

5. Bay of Islands
The Bay of Islands is an historic area and very popular tourist destination in the Northland region of the North Island of New Zealand. This region of New Zealand is rich in history and a fantastic example of why New Zealand has much to offer the traveller. This area of New Zealand is where the first missionaries settled in the early nineteenth century.

4. Geothermal Rotorua
Rotorua is known as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. Its hot springs and geysers have attracted tourists for over a hundred years. Rotorua is built over a geothermal hot spot. There are numerous natural vents, hot pools and other geothermal features in and around the city. Many of these are in parks and reserves.

3. Waitomo Caves
The world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves are one of New Zealand's top tourist attractions, located just outside the Waitomo Village, easy to find and within easy reach of all local accommodation. It is home to the famous Waitomo glowworms, tiny creatures that radiate their luminescent light.

2. Urban Auckland
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, with a population of over 1.5 million. It is in the northern half of the North Island, on a narrow isthmus of land that joins the Northland peninsula to the rest of the island. Auckland is often called the City of Sails for the large number of yachts that grace the Waitemata Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf. It could also be called the City of Volcanoes.

The Rainbow Falls, Māori name Waianiwaniwa, are a single-drop waterfall located on the Kerikeri River near Kerikeri in New Zealand. Unlike most New Zealand waterfalls which are created by the erosion of soft rock, the Rainbow Falls are sited on a hard basalt layer of rock beside softer mudstone.

Rewa’s Village is a full scale replica of a pre – European Māori fishing village.
Meander around the village, imagining a time before European settlement.
Walk through our native bush and experience the serenity of native bird sounds.
Listen to the tranquil waters of “Te Awa o Ngā Rangatira” river (the river of chiefs) and enjoy the picturesque surroundings of the Kerikeri Basin

The Stone Store, a former storehouse, is the oldest stone building in New Zealand, construction having begun on 19 April 1832. The keystone above the door bearing the date 1833 is thought to have been carved by the stonemason William Parrott who cut the Sydney sandstone in situ, but construction of the building was not actually completed until mid-1836.

Stone was used because the missionaries needed a vermin-free, fireproof area for their supplies and provisions, and for improved security from inquisitive Māori. There was a plan to build a mill where the bridge exists now, and to protect the flour produced from locally grown wheat in the store. But the mill was never built, and the millstones brought out from England went inland to Waimate North instead.

Originally called the Mission House, and then for more than 100 years Kemp House, but now again called Mission House, this is the oldest wooden structure still standing in New Zealand. A much visited and photographed building, it is administered along with the Stone Store by Heritage New Zealand
