1968 was a big year for theaters in Wilmington, Delaware. The Branmar Cinema, in Branmar Shopping Center,(950 seats) and the Eric Theatre at Tri-State Mall (1,400 seats) were announced for 1969, but the biggest news was the opening of the Cine'Mart Theatre across the road from the Merchandise Mart shopping center on Governor Printz Boulevard.
The shopping center had been built just following WW2, and it quickly became the most popular shopping destination in Wilmington. What it didn’t have was a theatre, although the Edgemoore Theatre was just down the road. So the ABC chain decided to build their only area theater directly across the road. It would seat 1,000 people, and since roadshows were popular, be equipped for 70mm Todd-AO with Norelco projectors. The boxoffice was designed so tickets could be sold for reserved-seat attractions through an outside window.
The auditorium was completely in gold with wide rocking chair seating. The front was deeply curved to allow for the screen, with curtains that went to the rear of the auditorium. If you’ve seen pictures of theatres like the various Cooper Cinerama locations, you’ve got the idea of what it looked like!
Incidentally, in the early days the name was spelled Cine'Mart in the newspaper advertisements. Films like Hello Dolly in Todd-AO played there, and it was joined by the Eric Theatre the next year as the only two Wilmington theaters equipped for 70mm.
Then, disaster. Concord Mall, in northern Wilmington had opened with an Almart department store in 1965, but was completed by 1971-72; including a theatre. Merchandise Mart collapsed soon after, and so did the surrounding area-you did not want to be around there after dark! ABC sold Cinemart to Budco Theaters by the time the mall was completed, and bookings began to slip. Distributors always detested the habit of Philadelphia-area theatre bookers scheduling porn along with mainstream films at many theaters-you literally could have the G-rated Raggity Ann and Andy one week and X the next!
Both the Edgemoore Theatre and Cinemart relied on explotation and porno bookings more and more by the later 1970’s and Budco closed both theatres in the fall of 1980. Interestingly, Budco booked Midway in Sensurround at Cinemart in the summer of 1977; it played for several months-the last big success for the theatre.

Midway - Trailer
The battle of Midway sounded its furious thunder in June, 1942, just six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Midway interweaves the dramatic personal stories of the men who fought the courageous battle that was to be the Pacific turning point for the United States. The all-star cast and breakthrough war footage convey the Battle of Midway with powerful reality and epic sweep.
The Battle Of Midway (1942)
The Battle of Midway chronicles a significant moment in U.S. History, as have other Ford films like Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) and My Darling Clementine (1946), but the focus here is on ordinary Americans filmed at the time, not famous historical figures seen in retrospect.
Although the use of a hand-held 16mm camera will strike some as uncharacteristic of Ford's style, there are many ÂFordian touches throughout the film.
Ford weaves voiceover and music into the real footage of the battle, shaping the material to show us the conflict as he saw it, and moulding these elements into a narrative to show the American people why they're fighting.

The Battle of Midway 1942: Told from the Japanese Perspective (1/2)
(Animated Battle Map)
This is part one of a planned two-part video covering Operation MI. As you can see I spent a considerable amount of time covering Nagumo’s Dilemma. To me it's one of most striking examples of how tough it can be for a commander to make a decision based on the information at hand. I found that to be the most interesting aspect of the battle.
I don’t have a Patreon but if you want to show appreciation for my work feel free to donate.

Corrections:
Strength , Auxiliary, and unknown are misspelled in the video.
At 22:55 I should have stated “North of Midway” instead of Northeast of Midway. The illustration shows a 10 degree 240 nm from midway location. Not so Northeast as I audibly stated.
At 23:43 I should have stated 79 aircraft instead of 78 and I should have displayed 35 instead of 34 torpedo bombers. the “mistake” came about because sources still differ on whether there were 27 or 26 Carrier attack planes (Kates). If it was 27 it would have been 79 Planes. if it was 26 it would have been 78. During the recording I somehow mixed up the numbers.
Additional Notes:
notice that the carriers started off the battle in a box formation. This provided further mutual support for their rather weak AA fire. however, due to the incessant air attacks from VT-8, VT-6 and VT-3, the carriers were never able to reform in a box formation, instead they were in a ragged line which further worsened their AA capabilities.
-----------------------------------------Spoiler Below regarding Nagumo's Dilemma---------------------------------------------
So what was the answer to Nagumo’s Dilemma?
“Taking all together, and admittedly operating with the benefit of hindsight, the “right” answer to Nagumo’s conundrum probably should have emphasized maneuver, offensive speed in preference to mass, and passive damage control. With fifteen minutes in which to act, he didn’t really have time to implement anything terribly fancy. But he could have helped himself immensely by immediately spotting every strike airplane in his hangars, whether they were armed or not, and launching them at the Americans. The sixty-four armed aircraft he had in had were perfectly capable of doing enormous damage to his enemy. And by emptying his hangars, he removed the single greatest danger to his carriers --- the presence of fueled and armed aircraft within them.”

DELAWARE - USA Travel Guide | Around The World
Delaware was the first state to ratify the US Constitution. Delaware is well known as a corporate tax haven due to its laxed and secure banking laws. It is bordered by the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Counties :
New Castle County (Northern Delaware)
Kent County (Delaware) (Central Delaware)
Sussex County (Delaware) (Southern Delaware)
Cities :
Dover, the capital, located in the middle of the state.

Newark
Bridgeville

Commercial airline service into the state of Delaware is limited, but areas of the state are reasonably close to major international airports in either Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or the District of Columbia. In 2013, Frontier Airlines offered commercial flights to New Castle County Airport including direct flights from several US Cities including Chicago-Midway, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, and Denver.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is 20 miles or about a half hour to the northeast of downtown Wilmington and serves as the main commercial aviation gateway for most visitors to Delaware.
Baltimore-Washington International (BWI), is less than 90 minutes away, and has many national and international flights.
Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY) serves many visitors to southern Delaware's beaches and is located about an hour south and west of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Delaware has many excellent restaurants and a surprising number of brewpubs for a small state, including Dogfish Head in Rehoboth Beach and Iron Hill (in Newark and along the Riverfront in Wilmington).
As the location of the University of Delaware, Newark is the home of a number of bars and restaurants popular with college students and locals. One such restaurant is Klondike Kate's (on Main Street). Ask for a tour of the jail cells in the basement, dating from the late 1700s. The Deer Park (also on Main Street) is a long standing Newark institution with a rich history. Although the current building dates from 1847, there has been a tavern on the site since colonial times. Edgar Allan Poe once stayed at the St. Patrick's Inn, which formerly stood on the same site. Legend has it that he put a curse on the building and the city after falling in the mud outside the hotel. Due to the site's association with Poe, the symbol of the Deer Park is a raven, and there is a wooden raven on display in the main dining room.
In the city of Wilmington, Trolley Square, about one mile from downtown along Delaware Avenue, is widely popular with locals in their 20s-30s. Among the bars in Trolley Square, The Logan House is arguably the most popular drinking location. Just outside of the city on Route 52 in Greenville is Cromwell's, which has quality pub style food and a comfortable ambience. For those staying in Downtown Wilmington there are several excellent bars and restaurants in the downtown area including The Chelsea Tavern, Ernest & Scott Taproom and Mikimoto's. On the West Side of Wilmington is the Little Italy district including 'Restaurant Row' - the numerous restaurants found on Lincoln and Union Streets. This includes several authentic style Italian Restaurants like Mrs. Robino's, Mona Lisa's Euro Bistro and Luigi Vitrone’s Pastabilities Restaurant along with other popular places like Walter's Steakhouse, Union Grille, Dead President's Pub and Restaurant and Blue Parrot.

This also features the recently completed Exits 88, 83, and the Delaware Route 14 interchange in the northbound direction. Last year, when I passed through them, they were under construction, except for Exit 83, which had its ramps opened, but final paving at the interchange didn't finish until I think the end of August 2018.

By attacking Midway atoll, at the far western end of the Hawaiian chain, the Japanese hoped to lure the US Pacific Fleet into the open sea and destroy it. Instead, due to superb US intelligence and costly Japanese tactical errors, the attack marked the destruction of the Japanese Fleet and the end of Tokyo’s supremacy in the Pacific Ocean. This super film portrays the momentous battle in a day-by-day account.
