Valentina Vassallo 3D-scans at Medelhavsmuseet
Valentina Vassallo, PhD student at Lund University, 3D-scanned objects from the collections housed at Medelhavsmuseet/the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, Sweden (part of the National Museums of World Culture, Sweden).
Valentina analyzed ca 50 terracotta figurines from the open air sanctuary Ayia Irini, Cyprus to find information that is undetectable with the naked eye. Among other things, she hopes to answer the following questions: How are the figurines made? Can we identify different craftsmen? Which techniques were used?
We welcomed visitors to the museum to see how 3D scanning works, talk with Valentina and our staff about the project, and learn how these 2,500-year-old objects contribute to new knowledge and to history!
When Valentina has processed the data and done an analysis, the findings will be published on varldskulturmuseerna.se. Until then, read more on our blog:

Ancient Cult Statues
I will update later with more specifics, but these were all found in one location, facing the [spherical object of worship]. It was remarkable and remarked on, for the varying sizes and the fashion in which the statues were arrayed.
