Japan, Tokyo: Sensō ji Temple (A Good Place to Spend An Hour)
Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺 Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji) is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. It is Tokyo's oldest temple (founded in 645 AD), and one of its most significant.
Formerly associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism, it became independent after World War II. Adjacent to the temple is a five-storey pagoda, Shinto shrine, the Asakusa Shrine, as well as many shops with traditional goods in the Nakamise-dōri
The Sensoji Kannon temple is dedicated to Guanyin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, and is the most widely visited spiritual site in the world with over 30 million visitors annually.
Join us as we travel around the world. You will experience what I consider to be the REAL DEAL! Whether that's good or bad is likely based on the individual, but in my opinion, there is no better way to travel.
I will also share my thoughts and opinions that are based on my own experiences backpacking for over 20 years.
Enjoy & Stay with me!

Traveling Around Tokyo!: Omotesando, Asakusa, Skytree
We are traveling around Tokyo in today’s family adventure! We start the day in Omotesando with donuts and coffee, design our own notebook in Asakusa, shop and play at Skytree Solamachi, and end the day back in Omotesando for a healthy dinner. We traveled quite a bit by train and foot but we hope to show you just how much you can explore in Tokyo in just one day!
Be sure to check out the rest of the description box for the details surrounding our trip! Let me know if you have any questions in the comment section!

Details and Places Mentioned:
- Tokyo Metro System-
- Higuma Doughnuts x Coffee Wrights: Jingumae 4-9-13, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0001
Higuma Doughnuts:
Coffee Wrights:
Our order: Summer Orange (seasonal offering, 300 yen), Honey Mascarpone (300 yen), Sugar (240 yen).
I loved my honey mascarpone donut, just the perfect amount of sweetness! Donuts are made fresh in front of you and enjoy them with the delicious coffee from Coffee Wright.
- Kakimori: 1 Chome-6-2 Misuji, Taito City, Tokyo 111-0055
I designed my own notebook for approximately 2500 yen, which was on the cheaper side. Akari helped me with the bold, finishing touches and it was a fun activity to do together. Kakimori is located in a neighborhood area, away from the busy streets, giving us a change of pace from the ever busy touristy places. I recommend carving time out of your day to visit and experience the Japanese style of stationery!
- Dandelion Chocolate: 4 Chome-14-6 Kuramae, Taito City, Tokyo 111-0051
A short 5 minute walk from Kakimori and the perfect place to spend your time while you wait for your custom notebook to be made. It is a “bean to bar” chocolate factory, offering a variety of chocolate treats and drinks.
Our order: Brownie Bite Flight (630 yen), Cacao Fruits Smoothie (630 yen), Hot Chocolate (580 yen). Each drink came with complimentary cookies and marshmallows. The cacao fruits smoothie had an interesting tangy taste with small hints of chocolate; it is worth a try since it was a unique beverage. The brownie bit flight were heavenly...each bite had chocolate from a different country: India (hint of lemon yogurt), Guatemala (hint of grape and caramel), and Belize (hint of pineapple and honey).
- Skytree Solamachi: 1 Chome-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida City, Tokyo 131-0045
A trip to the Asakusa area is best followed by a trip to the magnificent Skytree! Only about a 5 minute train ride away, the Skytree Solamachi mega shopping complex is directly connected to the Oshiage Station and offers over 300 dining and shopping experiences. For Akari, we had to visit the Kodomo no Yu, child’s play area! Gave the adults some much needed rest while the kids tire themselves out after spending most of the day either in transit or shopping. The place is remarkably clean too!
- Mr. Farmer: 1F, Sepia Harajuku, 4-5-12 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
A vegan friendly restaurant with several healthy options (I love that they use locally sourced, seasonal vegetables!). They have a few locations around Tokyo with each location with a slightly different menu. We went to the one in Omotesando (which is actually nearby Higuma Doughnuts). I would say this restaurant is great if you order the vegan food, as the “omnivore” options were lacking in taste in both in the chicken dishes we ate. Also, no kid-friendly options if you don’t count the smoothie and desserts so we had to supplement Akari’s dinner elsewhere.
Our order: Chicken Power Protein Plate (1790 yen), Herb Roasted Chicken with Quinoa (1950 yen), Vegan Taco Rice (1690 yen), Refresh Cleanse Smoothie (790 yen)

_____________
The film opens with a trio of Dungeons & Dragons characters facing the final villain. However, they are quickly killed and after blaming each other, the players (Cass, Leo, and Gary) blame the game master, Lodge, claiming he did not follow the rules and plotted against them. While Leo and Gary wish to play a different game the following week, Cass demands to play the same campaign again, even though they just played it and lost for the second time, to preserve his reputation that there is no game he cannot win. Lodge wishes to publish his campaign as an official Dungeons & Dragons game module, but he is having trouble writing it: he knows how he wants it to end, but his players never actually finish the module. Gary suggests that for the next game they bring in two more players, in order to have a more well-rounded party. Cass is able to recruit his ex-girlfriend Joanna, and quickly reveals why they split: Cass is overbearing and condescending, belittling Joanna's character design strategy (she chose several abilities that normally wouldn't be useful to her character). The group has otherwise acquired an unfavourable reputation, and Lodge is unable to find anyone else, despite asking fifteen regular gamers.
