The Dolomites (Le Dolomiti), The Stelvio Pass (Passo dello Stelvio / Stilfser Joch) and The Vizze's Valley in Tyrol (Val di Vizze, Tirolo). filmed in 4K Ultra High Definition.
TOP Gear defines Italy's Stelvio Pass:: One of the World's greatest roads. The Stelvio Pass (Italian: Passo dello Stelvio) is a mountain pass in northern Italy, at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. It is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps.
The original road was built in 1820–25 by the Austrian Empire to connect the former Austrian province of Lombardy with the rest of Austria, covering a climb of 1,871 m (6,138 ft) The engineer and project manager was Carlo Donegani (1775–1845). Since then, the route has changed very little. Its seventy-five hairpin turns, 48 of them on the northern side numbered with stones, are a challenge to motorists. Stirling Moss went off the road here during a vintage car event in the 1990s, with an onboard video of his incident being shown on satellite TV.
Before the end of World War I, it formed the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Italian Kingdom. The Swiss had an outpost and a hotel (which was destroyed) on the Dreisprachenspitze (literally, Three-Language-Peak). During World War I, fierce battles were fought in the ice and snow of the area, with gun fire even crossing the Swiss area at times. The three nations made an agreement not to fire over Swiss territory, which jutted out in between Austria (to the north) and Italy (to the south). Instead they could fire down the pass, as Swiss territory was up and around the peak. After 1919, with the expansion of Italy, the pass lost its strategic importance.
The Dolomites well deserve to be in the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. It's a mesmerizing, ancient and mystical location, where you can enjoy nature at its best. It is one of those places that makes you understand why Italy is such a famous place for tourism.
The Dolomites are part of Unesco's World Heritage Sites. The Dolomites (Italian: Dolomiti are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. They form a part of the Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (Italian: Valsugana). The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino.
There are also mountain groups of similar geological structure that spread over the River Piave to the east – Dolomiti d'Oltrepiave; and far away over the Adige River to the west – Dolomiti di Brenta (Western Dolomites). There is also another smaller group called Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) located between the provinces of Trentino, Verona and Vicenza (see map).
The Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park and many other regional parks are located in the Dolomites.
The Dolomiti is a World Heritage Site!
The municipality of Val di Vizze is located in the homonymous valley and is surrounded by the majestic scenery of the Zillertal Alps.
Val di Fleres is one of the northernmost municipalities of South Tyrol and borders directly on Austria. The 23 km long genuine valley (943 – 3.509 m) stretches from Prati via Fleres di Dentro up to the high Alpine scenery of the Passo di Vizze (2,246 m). Bounded by the mountains of the Tux mountain ridge in the north and the Monti di Fundres in the south, the valley stretches into the heart of the Zillertal Alps, the highest sommit of which is the Gran Pilastro (3.509 m).
No matter if you choose the Alta Via Venna alla Gerla, the Rifugio Gran Pilastro or the Passo di Vizze or Passo di Fundres, there are plenty of hiking and mountain biking destination. The so-called Gliedergang at the head of the valley, however, is rich in minerals such as the Blue Beryll, their collection is, however, strictly forbidden.

Dolomites : Amazing Val di Funes Santa Maddalena
Support our channel :
The Odle mountain peaks and the church of Santa Maddalena are the symbols of the Val di Funes. Santa Maddalena is located in the rear part of the valley at 1.339 m e has about 370 inhabitants. Here, at the foot of the Ruefen, also one of the symbols of the valley rises, which is the Santa Maddalena church (1,394 m): according to a legend, this is the place where the miraculous image of Santa Maddalena was washed up by the Fopal river. This church, obviously with the Odle mountains in the background, is one of the most popular photo motifs of the Dolomites.
Only a few km from Santa Maddalena, there is the Zannes mountain pasture, which is starting point for a variety of hikes in all the seasons. Adolf Munkel trail at the foot of the Odle peaks, a walk on the nature trail, to the Rif. Gampen, or a tour to the Sasso Putia, the Puez-Odle nature park offers destinations for all mountaineering levels. By the way, Santa Maddalena is also the site of the visitors’ centre, making you admire this green area from a bird’s eye perspective, “touch the mountains” and much more.

Hiking the Adlerweg Eagle's Way (Tirol, 2012)
I hiked the Adlerweg in a roundabout way due to heavy snowfall in the Karwendel Range. First, I hiked from St. Johann to Achensee through the Wilder Kaiser and onto and over the Rofan Mountains. Then I skipped the Karwendel (but came back later to complete!) and hiked from Hochzirl (outisde of Innsbruck) to St. Anton. Finally I returned and completed the Karwendel Range from Achensee to Innsbruck. Finally, I spent about four days hiking in the Oetztal around Langenfeld so I could hit up the Aquadome pools and saunas every evening.
The video editing is not very good (timing and transition between photos and songs could be much better).
Update: in 2017, I returned to Tirol and completed most of the Lechtaler Hoehenweg, which is a high route option for the Adlerweg.
TIROLER HÖHENWEG // Training
In August 2018 the world class trailrunner Daniel Jung tried to master the High Altitude Trail from Mayrhofen/Zillertal Valley (AUT) to Merano (ITA). To master such long distances he had to run through an extreme intensive training. The key to his success is his passion to sport and a deep connection to nature.

Dolomite - Exploring Austro-Hungarian trenches (Part 2)
The next part covers the visit to the trenches of Austro-Hungary. Back in the First World War, the regions that covers the mountains of Dolomite belongs to Austro-Hungary. When Italy joined the Entente powers, promoting Italy to declare war on Austro-Hungary (Central powers) on May 23rd 1915, the Italian military sought to capture the Dolomites, to drive out Austro-Hungarian army and to secure its sovereignty. The Austro-Hungarian troops were dug in very well due to the experiences and the skills in trench warfare that were passed from the Germans. This is why, in this video, much of the trenches have a zig-zag formation. The reason for this is to minimise the number of casualties from mortar and artillery explosions. The Italians had a mountain to climb (both literally and metaphorically), because of the extreme environment and superb tactics made by the Austro-Hungarians, the Italians had to fight uphill whilst under heavy fire when the Austro-Hungarians defend constantly. This made the front line completely static, until in the latter half of 1918, with the help from the US and British troops, the Entente powers finally captured the Dolomites, proclaiming as part of Italian sovereignty, thus ending the First World War.

Pusteria Valley, Italy Travel
Pusteria Valley, Italy Travel - Running from the junction of the Valle Isarco at Bressanone (Brixen) to San Candido (Innichen) in the far east, the narrow, verdant Val Pusteria is profoundly Tyrolean and almost entirely German-speaking.
Dobbiaco (Toblach), where Gustav Mahler once holed up and wrote his troubled but ultimately life-affirming Ninth Symphony, is the gateway to the ethereal Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti di Sesto, home of the much-photographed Tre Cime di Lavaredo ('Three Peaks' or, in German, Drei Zinnen). Down yet another deeply forested valley twist, the jewel-like Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee) is just the spot for a peaceful lake-side stroll, and is home to a beautiful historic hotel, the Pragser Wildsee. Serious walkers tackle part of the Alta Via No 1 from here.
The Plan de Corones (Kronplaz) ski area — covered by Dolomiti Superski - is 4km to the south of bustling Brunico and can be reached by cable car. Ample green and blue runs are spectacularly set — a treat for beginners.
Bumping the Austrian and Veneto borders in the far northeast is a vast, wild territory, the Sesto Dolomiti. The Valle Campo di Dentro and Val Fiscalina are crisscrossed with spectacular walking and cross-country skiing trails; most around the Tre Cime are easy enough for inexperienced walkers and families. From the Val Fiscalina it's a long but gentle walk along trail No 102 to Rifugio Locatelli (2405m), from where you can see the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in all its glory.
Enjoy Your Pusteria Valley, Italy Travel!

The waterfalls of Riva (in German Reinbach-Wasserfälle or Reinbachfälle) are located in the Natural Park Rieserferner Ahr. The three waterfalls formed by the waters of the river Riva, which swells when in the period of thawing of the glacier of the Rieserferner, are located in Campo Tures in Valle di Riva and represent a performance breathtaking natural. The trail to the falls side at an altitude of 864 meters above sea level, in the resort bathrooms Cantuccio (Bad Winkel). To make the path along the falls takes about 2 hours (7 km) but the trail is not difficult (+238 m of elevation gain). The first waterfall has a height of about 10 meters, from here the route continues slightly downhill. The path Canticle of the Sun is the path for a few meters, but then you face a steep climb to reach the second waterfall. Certainly the most beautiful waterfall of the three is the most upstream (with a jump of 42 meters, due to a branch of artificial stream (exploited for electricity in places Tobl) that leaves fascinated, also thanks to a suspension bridge on overhang, which you cross to get to the end of the path. At the end of the bridge the path continues to the church of San Francesco and Chiara.
The song, titled Home, is RomeSnowShower which I warmly thank you for your cooperation:

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
South Tyrol is an autonomous province in northern Italy. It is one of the two autonomous provinces that make up the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. Its official trilingual denomination is Autonome Provinz Bozen – Südtirol in German, Provincia autonoma di Bolzano – Alto Adige in Italian and Provinzia autonoma de Bulsan – Südtirol in Ladin, reflecting the three main language groups to which its population belongs. The province is the northernmost of Italy, the second largest, with an area of 7,400 square kilometres (2,857 sq mi) and has a total population of 528,641 inhabitants as of 2018. Its capital and largest city is Bolzano (German: Bozen; Ladin: Balsan or Bulsan).
According to 2014 data based on the 2011 census, 62.3% of the population speaks German (Standard German in the written form and an Austro-Bavarian dialect in the spoken form); 23.4% of the population speaks Italian, mainly in and around the two largest cities (Bolzano and Merano); 4.1% speaks Ladin, a Rhaeto-Romance language; 10.2% of the population (mainly recent immigrants) speaks another language as first language.
The province is granted a considerable level of self-government, consisting of a large range of exclusive legislative and executive powers and a fiscal regime that allows it to retain a large part of most levied taxes, while remaining a net contributor to the national budget. As of 2016, South Tyrol is the wealthiest province in Italy and among the wealthiest in the European Union.
In the wider context of the European Union, the province is one of the three members of the Euroregion of Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino, which corresponds almost exactly to the historical region of Tyrol. The other members are Tyrol state in Austria, to the north and east, and the Italian Autonomous province of Trento to the South.
The 52 Tunnels Trail, La Strada delle 52 Gallerie, Monte Pasubio
As WW1 dragged on in 1917, the Italian Army cut a long, narrow and steep road into the South face of Monte Forni, one of the Pasubio Massif peaks. Troup movements and protection plus dominance of the strategically important valley below were the reasons for such a challenging undertaking.
Today the trail can be hiked enjoying the magnificent views. The horrible feeling of what it must have been like for those young soldiers to be there to kill and be killed is however a constant reminder of the foolishness of wars, all of them.
Alto Adige - Sudtirol
This video mix of several places that I conclude my shots of South Tyrol, where I spent the holidays. Four pieces of many places where there was no way to make a movie but one that enclose and enchanting places they have left a lot of wonderful memories and nostalgia.
MEADOW SQUARE: Located in the heart of the nature of Fanes - Senes - Braies and lets you enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Dolomites. Except the stretch that leads to the Refuge Vallandro, the route is flat. Near the refuge are the remains of a fort dating back to World War I, who remember the events that have marked the history of these places.
ANTERSELVA LAKE: is a small alpine lake located 1642 m in the valley Anterselva (one side of Val Pusteria). It is located in the park Rieserferner Ahr, in the municipality of Anterselva Rasen (in the province of Bolzano), at about 97 km from Bolzano.
FUNIVIE SPEIKBODEN AND Sonnklar: from 950 meters altitude reaches 2400 meters. Above sea level, in the breathtaking scenery enchanted zones and Speikboden Klausberg. Maintained walking trails lead to views of the Zillertal Alps, on Rieserferner and the Dolomites.
BRAIES LAKE: The lake Braies is a small alpine lake located in Val di Braies (a side valley in the Val Pusteria) of 1.496 m asl in the town of Braies (BZ), to about 97 km from Bolzano. The lake is home rockfall, since its creation is due to the barrier of the Rio Braies for a landslide that came off the Sasso del Signore.
