The Saints, written by Luke Barnes and directed by Matthew Dunster, explores football in Southampton, the history of the club and how it's shaped the understanding of people living in the city.
The Shadow Factory
Autumn 1940. The Battle of Britain rages.
Southampton is home to our only hope of victory: the Spitfire. But when the Luftwaffe drops 2,300 bombs in three devastating raids, the city goes up in flames and the Woolston Supermarine Spitfire factory is destroyed. From the ashes, a story of chaos, courage and community spirit emerges.
Experience this spectacular world premiere to open Southampton’s brand new theatre NST City featuring a 25-strong community chorus made up of Southampton residents, and conceived by Nuffield Southampton Theatre’s director Samuel Hodges (Dedication, The Glass Menagerie) and 59 Productions (Warhorse, An American in Paris), the Tony award winning design team behind the London 2012 Opening Ceremony.

Video transcript:
Emma Baldwin,BSc Physiotherapy, second year
My favourite’s probably Sprinkles, because it does such good ice cream.
Selvan Thamizhirai, MEng Aeronautics & Astronautics, third year
Sprinkles.
Jessica Smith, BSc Midwifery, second year
Sprinkles.
Sim Linnel Hanfling, BA History, final year
Yeah, sprinkles.
Tolu Majekodunmi, BM Medicine, first year
Sprinkles is just, Sprinkles is super.
Sim Linnel Hanfling
Sprinkles. Very good. Best ice cream in Southampton.
Selvan Thamizhirai, MEng Aeronautics & Astronautics, third year
We go quite often.
Charlotte Hallahan, BA English, final year
Of course, Sprinkles, I’m sure that has been said a lot.
Tolu Majekodunmi
Sprinkles is just, Sprinkles is super.
Sim Linnel Hanfling
Sprinkles. Very good. Best ice cream in Southampton.
Selvan Thamizhirai
We go quite often.
Charlotte Hallahan
Of course, Sprinkles, I’m sure that has been said a lot.
Sophie Kingscote, BSc Psychology, final year
I said Jesters is my favourite. Jesters Nightclub is the best place. Really cheap, really great.
Olivia Ojuroye, MEng Electronic Engineering with Artificial Intelligence, third year
A really good place to check out really cool bands is the Joiners.
Ben Robins, BA Film Studies, second year
I guess my number one has to be one of the three cinemas in Southampton. I’m probably going to go with the Harbour Lights Picturehouse.
Robin Johnson, MSc Computer Science, final year
The Annex Theatre, which is one of the, kind of, performance venues we have on campus.
Olivia Ojuroye
A second place is Zen. Zen is a Japanese restaurant located in the heart of the city centre.
Sim Linnel Hanfling
There’s a really good pub called The Hobbit, it’s nice to have, kind of, Southampton’s got quite a good independent scene.
Emma Baldwin
Being down by the river, it’s really pretty to walk along there.
Charlotte Hallahan
I go to the Mayflower which has amazing, like, West End shows and to Nuffield which is actually on campus.
Robin Johnson
I also love the Stag’s Head, which is the Student Union’s pub on campus.
Ben Robins
The Hobbit pub, I’m not the biggest drinker in the world but the, the drinks there are always really great, reasonably priced. It’s a really nice vibe. Uh, and Lord of the Rings stuff, everywhere which is fun.
Jessica Smith
Me personally, I also really like the New Forest that we’ve got just on our doorstep.
Emma Baldwin
And my third favourite is probably the common. Again, it’s great for meeting up with friends and you can have a barbeque there in summer and it’s great to do, kind of, cycling and running, which is really good.
Charlotte Hallahan
Third, would probably be West Quay, just because shopping.
Aditi Arora, BA Geography, first year
Jesters, on a night out, it’s great.
Olivia Ojuroye
So those are my top three places in Southampton.
Southampton Titanic Vigil 15 April 2012: 100 years on
These are the rather shaky videos I took with my iPhone at the Vigil put on by the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton's East Park to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
It was a profoundly moving event. The outline of the Titanic's boat deck, bow and stern were painted onto the ground and the edge of the ship was marked with the row of lights seen in the first photo. A solemn voice would read out the events that took place at that time 100 years on. It was dramatic. As you will see at the end of the video, the people who had congregated, some with candles, were reduced to an emotion but respectful silence by the end.
More information about the vigil can be found at:
I really hope this vigil will be done again at some point in the future.
I was able to attend the vigil as I was attending the British Titanic Society's convention in Southampton at the time.

Patron? Collaborator? Employer? Voyeur? Lover?
William Shakespeare is on trial. Questioned about his relationship with the 3rd Earl of Southampton. What exactly did happen between them?
The evidence: Tender poems. Financial dependency. Attempted revolution. A charge of treason.
A compelling new romantic drama set in the powder keg of sex, politics and power in Elizabethan England.
This world premiere is written by award-winning playwright Nick Dear (Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch, The National Theatre; The Art of Success, Royal Shakespeare Company, Olivier Nomination) and directed by Nuffield’s Director, Samuel Hodges, following his critically-acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie in 2015.
Dramatic design by Alex Lowde (Linda, Royal Court [Costume Design], Tis Pity She’s A Whore, Shakespeare Globe) transforms the auditorium into an intimate setting that places the audience on the stage at the heart of the performance.
