Pine Mountain Georgia Hiking West Scenic Trail Cartersville,
There’s nothing better than a drive to the North Georgia mountains for a dose of fresh air and a hike to a scenic mountain summit. Even better, though, when a local hike offers beautiful summit views and a great mountain climb – but without the long drive. The Pine Mountain Trail winds and climbs to sweeping views of Lake Allatoona, Stone Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain. The trail, located just east of Cartersville, hikes a stream-filled coniferous forest, and winds along massive granite outcrops. And under 40 miles from midtown Atlanta, this figure-eight loop offers a fantastic, view-packed hike without a long drive to the trailhead.

PINE MOUNTAIN - Special Edition Hiking With BOZO - Best Places To Hike In North Georgia
Pine Mountain in Cartersville, Georgia is one of the best places to hike in North Georgia. This is a slightly moderate trail 4.5 mile hike and provides some excellent views from the David Archer Overlook at the top.
In this video, I had an awesome opportunity to hike with my 69 year old Dad BOZO. Any chance you get, I would recommend spending time with your family and hiking is one of the best activities you can share together. This trail is moderate, but most can hike this trail and I definitely recommend it!
Parking is free and this trail is dog friendly. Remember to leave no trace and always pack out what you pack in. Including those dog poop baggies. Please don't leave them on the trail even if you plan to pick them back up later.

Pine Mountain Hike - West Loop Trail and David G. Archer Overlook
I always forget how beautiful the Pine Mountain West Loop trail in Cartersville, Georgia is. It is well maintained, and has a lot to see. There is a small creek that runs through the base of the mountain, and there are several boulders and cliffs to check out on your way up.
There is one overlook, so both east and west loops will take you to it, and it is called the David G. Archer Overlook. This is a large overlook, and is typically pretty crowded, and we even saw some hammocks this weekend. The overlook offers views of Lake Allatoona, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta, and Plant Bowen.

Pine Mountain Cooper's Furnace Day Hike Part 2
Part 1: It was a beautiful Spring day to hike the Pine Mountain Cooper's Furnace Trail in Cartersville, Georgia. I parked at the Spur 20 Pine Mountain Trailhead and took the Connector Trail to the Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area. The park can be reached by vehicle by taking Highway 41 South from Highway 113 in Cartersville. Travel approximately one mile and take a left onto River Road. River Road will take you to the park. The information I shared about Cooper's Furnace can be found at the following links:
Part 2: From the Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area I hiked up to the overlook for the Allatoona Lake Dam. This is a dam of the Etowah River constructed and operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. From the overlook I hiked along the Laurel Ridge Trail (the Mountain Laurel was beginning to bloom) back to the Pine Mountain Connector Trail for my return to the trailhead.

Hiking to Dead Pine Campsite FDR State Park, Pine Mountain, Georgia
This video shows the trail to the Dead Pine Campsite from the No Name Parking Lot. Both of these can be found on the FDR park map. It's a easy half mile hike that took us 18 minutes. This is a great campsite to stay at if you are doing loops with day packs and would like a campsite that is close to parking and is easy to get to for pitching a tent for the night. This allows you to only have to carry your heavier pack with your tent and sleeping gear a half mile in for the night and a half mile out in the morning.

Pine Log Creek Trail and a CCC Rock Quarry
I went on a day hike in the Pine Log Creek Trail System located in Bartow County, Georgia near the town of Rydal. The Pine Log Creek Trail is approximately 4.25 miles in length and is part of 275 acres protected as Bartow County greenspace. There are two overlooks where one can view Pine Log Mountain, one of the highest elevations in Bartow County's Appalachian foothills. The elevation at the summit is 2331' and is actually located in Cherokee County, Georgia. This area is also the site of the Pine Log Cherokee Indian Village. The Treaty of Hopewell was signed here in 1785. In the late 1570's De Soto even visited the village.
The trail system includes two loops east and west. The western loop features an elevation gain of approximately 420' in about 0.75 miles. The eastern loop takes one by an early Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) quarry pond for some peaceful and picturesque views. Thank you for watching and Keep Hiking!

RED TOP MOUNTAIN STATE PARK - Sunset Drive through the Georgia State Park Near Atlanta
My Camera:
Here is a leisurely drive through Red Top Mountain State Park outside of Atlanta near Cartersville, Georgia. It includes a quick stop at the visitor's center parking area and the beach parking area.
From Wikipedia:
Red Top Mountain State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, on the northwestern edge of metro Atlanta, in southeastern Bartow County near Cartersville. Named for iron-rich Red Top Mountain,[1] the park covers 1,776 acres on a peninsula jutting north into Lake Allatoona, formed on the park's north and east sides by the Etowah River arm and on the west by Allatoona Creek arm.
During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield near the park. (The battle of Allatoona Pass National Historical Registry Marker is across Lake Allatoona on the south side, off Allatoona Road, or the Emerson exit off Interstate 75.) The park's main popularity however comes from being near Atlanta, and just off Interstate 75. It is one of the most-visited parks in the state.
