Video notes:
First you have to buy a train ticket. It is super easy. You don’t need to buy the tickets in advance. Find a ticket machine, press the language you need, then select buy your train ticket. One thing to keep in mind is that the names of the city are written in Italian. For example, Florence is Firenze. Next, pick the date and the time. The cost is 8.40 euros each trip. There’s no assigned seats so get there early to get seats.
The train doors don’t open for you. You have to press the button to get inside the train.
We are here in Pisa! It is a 20 minutes walk from the train station to the Square of Miracles where the Leaning Tower is of Pisa is located.
Buy the tickets to the Leaning Tower in advance on the actual website. You can buy the tickets 20 days before the day you’re visiting and up to 1 day in advance. Watch out for third party websites that try to rip you off by charging you double the cost. If you just want to climb up the tower, it is only 18 euros. Other websites will try to charge you up to 38 dollars for the same ticket.
Your ticket comes with free entrance to the Cathedral. Don’t forget to take advantage of that!
You can’t bring purses or backpacks into the tower. Don’t worry, they will keep your stuff in a locker for free.
Ever wonder why this tower leans? “Pisa” comes from the Greek word for “marshy land.” You would think the architects would have taken the subsoil into account while building a very tall bell tower, Nope! The foundation of the build is shallow and heavy. By the time they built the 2nd story the tower began to sink to one side. They tired to fix their mistake by building taller columns, but that did not help the poor tower.
At the very top you can walk a circle around the bell tower. You can take your time taking in the view of the city. They say you only have 30 minutes up there but nobody is really there to throw you out when your time is up. I was up there for well over 30 minutes. I am actually amazed how they are able to manage the crowds at each place we’ve been to. Limiting the amount of people at the entrance definitely made the visit very peaceful.
If you want to get a picture of the city with the leaning tower, then pay 5 euros to get in and see the view from the top of the Baptistery
With your tickets to the tower you can visit the cathedral for free. You can get a fixed time ticket for free to get in. I went in just fine without getting one. I guess it would depend on which days you are going and if there is an event going on. Check on their website to make sure there isn’t an event during the day you are visiting.
Alongside the Arno river is the Santa Maria della Spina church. It is free to visit. It’s a nice short stop. Della Spina translation is “of the thorn.” This represents the thorn placed on christ during his Passion and crucifixion. It was originally named Santa Maris di Pontenovo after a bridge that was nearby but it collapsed in the 15th century and was never rebuilt.

Hi I’m Abi with Holiday Extras Travel Guides, and this time we’re in Pisa. We’ll be giving you all the essential information that you need to Travel better. Covering tips on money, language, getting around, and of course the iconic leaning tower.
But first here’s bit about this small but historic city.
Once a powerful maritime city state, modern Pisa is a small town packed full of culture, with a long and interesting history. Although it’s iconic leaning tower made it world famous, there is much more to Pisa than this one landmark.
Friendly locals, great food, and classic architecture, make it one of our favourite places to visit in Italy.
Pisa has one airport that’s only one short hop from the City centre, and it’s here where our guide starts
Pisa airport is the main gateway into Tuscany, and receives almost 5 million passengers every year. It’s really close to town, and transfers are available by public bus, taxi or the Pisa Mover service. When taking the bus look out for the big blue City bus signs. Taking the Lam Rossa line towards Pisa, Tickets cost €1.20, buses leave every 10 minutes and the journey takes 6 minutes to Pisa Centrale.
A taxi should cost around €10, with an extra €2.55 charge on Sundays and public holidaysNew in 2017 the Pisa Mover shuttle service costs €2.70 each way and gets you into town in just 5 minutes. It’s defiantly our recommended way to get into the centre.
Pisa is a small city and one that’s best enjoyed on foot, infant it’s usually quicker and easier this way. For example a walk from Pisa Centrale should take no more than twenty minutes.
The bus service in Pisa uses three main lines; red, green and blue. The red line, ro LAM Rossa, is the one that takes you to the Leaning Tower. Tickets are available in tobacco shops, the station and airport. Buy your ticket before you travel and then validate as you board.
Bear in mind that after 9pm the buses switch to a reduced night service until midnight.
Tickets are available in 70, 120 and 240 minute variations and the 70-minute ticket is also available in books of 4 or 10.
Driving in Pisa is similar to other popular Italian cities, in that it has a limited-traffic-zone, called the ZTL. Driving in this zone will incur a fine between €60 and €100 each time you pass a traffic camera (meaning you can get fined multiple times for driving along the same street).
The Leaning Tower is one of Italy’s most iconic sights, and is what Pisa is best known for, here are the key facts:
The Towers characteristic lean is caused by a combination of it’s small foundations and the soft soil on which it was built. After a programme of structural strengthening was completed in 2001 the tower is now safe to enter.
When buying tickets you'll be given a time slot to return to enter to the tower. This could be up to 3 hours after purchase.
So we think it’s well worth booking your tickets in advance to avoid the long wait.
Only 40 people are allowed inside at any one time, and children under 8 are not permitted at all.
No bags at all are allowed in the tower. You can take a camera, but your bag must go in the free security deposit.
You're allowed 35 minutes inside the tower after entering.
Opening times are varied, we'll link to the official website in the description to the official website.

Pisa Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Pisa in Italy.
A visit to Italy’s city of Pisa taking in its most notable historic sights.Starting at the Piazza Di Miracoli, the square in which the Leaning Tower is located, the architectural splendour of the Cathedral and the Baptiserium are in fascinating contrast with the Camposanto Cemetery, classic art, frescos and sculpture living alongside the engaging simplicity and reverent calm of a graveyard. But although the decorative splendour, symmetry and generous dimensions of the Palazzo De Cavalieri are a feast to the eye, it is the startling and precarious imperfection of the Leaning Tower that dominates the interest of this Renaissance city.

Pisa is a city in Italy's Tuscany region best known for its iconic Leaning Tower. Already tilting when it was completed in 1372, the 56m white-marble cylinder is the bell tower of the Romanesque, striped-marble cathedral that rises next to it in the Piazza dei Miracoli. Also in the piazza is the Baptistry, whose renowned acoustics are demonstrated by amateur singers daily, and the Caposanto Monumentale cemetery.

Pisa:
Pisa is a city in Tuscany, Central Italy, on the right bank of the mouth of the River Arno on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital city of the Province of Pisa. Although Pisa is known worldwide for its leaning tower (the bell tower of the city's cathedral), the city of over 88,627 residents (around 200,000 with the metropolitan area) contains more than 20 other historic churches, several palaces and various bridges across the River Arno. Much of the city's architecture was financed from its history as one of the Italian maritime republics.
The city is also home of the University of Pisa, which has a history going back to the 12th century and also has the mythic Napoleonic Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and Sant'Anna School of
While the bell tower of the Cathedral, known as the leaning Tower of Pisa, is the most famous image of the city, it is one of many works of art and architecture in the city's Piazza del Duomo, also known, since the 20th century, as Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), to the north of the old town center. The Piazza del Duomo also houses the Duomo (the Cathedral), the Baptistry and the Campo Santo (the monumental cemetery). The medieval complex includes the above-mentioned four sacred buildings, the hospital and few palaces. All the complex is kept by the Opera (fabrica ecclesiae) della Primaziale Pisana, an old non profit foundation that operates since the building of the Cathedral (1063) to the maintenance of the sacred buildings. The area is framed by medieval walls kept by municipality administration.Wikipedia
