PURANA QILA Oldest Fort in Delhi India 4K
Purana Qila (Old Fort) is one of the oldest forts in Delhi. The present citadel at Purana Qila was believed to have been built under Sher Shah Suri. But according to ASI's Vasant Swarnkar, the excavations — the last one was in 2013-14 — point to traces from the 3rd century BC, the pre-Mauryan period.

Entrance to the Old Fort(Purana Qila) in New Delhi
Main entrance at Purana Qila is also known as Bara Darwaza which in Hindi means big gate.
Purana Qila, is the oldest fort among all forts in Delhi and, the oldest known structure of any type in Delhi. It was re built by the Afghan king Sher Shah Suri, on the same site, which was perhaps the site of Indraprastha, believed to be the capital of the Pandavas, Sher Shah raised the citadel of Purana-Qal'a with an extensive city-area sprawling around it. It seems that the Purana-Qal'a was still incomplete at Sher Shah's death in 1545, and was perhaps completed by his son Islam Shah or Humayun, although it is not certain which parts were built by whom. It's located at the site of the legendary city of Indraprastha, that was founded by Pandavas on the banks of perennial river Yamuna, which is revered by Hindus since ages, points to the possibility of this site's history dating back to nearly more than 5000 years old. Consequently the fort is considered by some, to be 'the first city of Delhi'.
Researchers now confirm that uptill 1913, a village called Indrapat existed with in the fort walls. Excavations carried out by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Purana Quila in 1954-55 (trial trenches) and again 1969 to 1973 by its Director, B B Lal have unearthed Painted Grey Ware dating 1000 B.C., and with a continuous cultural sequence from Mauryan to Mughal through Sunga, Kushana, Gupta, Rajput and Sultanate periods, confirming the antiquity of the fort.

PURANA QILA , NEW DELHI !! METRO STATION PRAGATI MAIDAN!! My first vlog.!! NEAR DELHI ZOO..
Hi everyone ,
This is my first vlog on youtube :????
Purani Qila : ENTRY TIME 7 AM TO 8 P.M .

At Delhi's Purana Qila, ASI hunts for the capital of Pandavas
In a bid to determine if there is a connection between Purana Qila and Indraprastha - the capital of the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata - the Archaeological Survey of India has begun excavating near Sher Mandal. Antiquities from the Mauryan years to the Mughal period have been found in three excavations carried out in the old fort in the last 40 years. ASI also hopes to have the excavations opened for public viewing within six months.

Qila-I-Kuhna: Purana Qila, Delhi
Qila-I-Kuhna: Purana Qila, Delhi
Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque (Mosque of the Old Fort) is a mosque located inside the premises of Purana Qila (Old Fort) in Delhi, the capital of India. After Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun, he occupied Purana Qila. There, he built the mosque for his private use, which became a symbol of his royal aspiration. Some historians believe, although Sher Shah completed the mosque, it was originally designed and its construction was started by Humayun.
Old Fort of Delhi - Fort of Indraprastha - Purana Qila - Pandavon ka Qila - Fort of Mahabharata
The Purana Qila or the old fort is one of the most captivating tourist sites that narrate the history of Delhi in details. The Purana Quila is situated in New Delhi and is said to guard the ruins of the city of Indraprastha that is mentioned in the Mahabharata.
Old Fort or the Purana Qila was the city of Din Panah during Humayun's rule. It was built between 1533 and 1538 by the Mughal emperor Humanyun. The fort originally lay on the bank of the river Yamuna before the river changed its course.
Purana Quila was built by Humayun in an attempt to build a city of his own. When Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun most of the structures inside the old fort were demolished and renamed. But once again as Humayun recaptured his city from Sher Shah's son he took the task of completing the city and rebuilding its old glory.
The walls of the fort rise to a height of 18 meters, traverse about 1.5 km and have three arched gateways, Bada Darwaza, Humayun Darwaza, and the Talaqi Darwaza.
Despite the grandeur of the exterior, few of interior structures have survived except the Qila-i Kuhna Mosque and the Shermandal, both credited to Sher Shah.
The museum at the gate of the Purana Qila has many artifacts recording the beginning and end of a glorious era of the Mughal period.
The Purana Qila or the old fort is also referred by some as the Pandavon ka Qila. It is thought by some to be located at the site of the legendary city of Indraprastha founded by the Pandavas from Mahabharata period. It is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.
It is a must-visit place for every visitor to Delhi.

Old Fort in Delhi is the truly forgotten Purana Qila
Purana Quila or Old Fort in New Delhi. See a board of Archaeological Survey of India.
The Purana Quila or the old fort is one of the most captivating tourist sites that narrate the history of Delhi in details. Constructed by the Mughal emperor – Humayun, the Purana Quila is evidence to the glory of the Mughal art. The Purana Quila is situated in New Delhi and is said to guard the ruins of the city of Indraprastha that is mentioned in the Mahabharata.
The three gates are double storied and built with red sandstone. The Humayun Darwaza and the Bara Darwaza were the two gates that were open for entry inside the old fort. Entry was prohibited through the Talaqi Darwaza as the name suggests.Talaqi means ‘forbidden'. The Qila-I-Kuhna Masjid was built by Sher Shah when he had captured the Purana Quila after defeating Humayun in 1541. The prayer hall is the most imposing part of the masjid that has five doorways with horse shoe shaped arches. The original plans of building the entire place with marble was jeopardized due to supply shortage. But the fusion of marble and sandstone has given the masjid a unique style.
