Reno Fun Train: Fleish, Nevada
This is footage I shot of Amtrak's westbound Reno Fun Train passing through Fleish, Nevada on January 8, 2006.
Reno, NV Train Station
Like my Facebook page:
The depot was built in 1926 by the Southern Pacific Railroad. It is the 3rd train depot built at this same location. The first two were built by the Central Pacific Railroad; both of these were destroyed by fires. This current Southern Pacific Depot was also used by the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, until 1950, when the railroad ceased operations. The depot was enlarged in 2007, as part of a project called ReTRAC, which lowered the tracks to eliminate most at-grade crossings in downtown Reno. In the process of excavating around the depot, many artifacts from Reno's past were discovered, some exposing not-well-known moments in Reno's history. Several of these are on display in the station lobby, including an old cistern used by the fire department, a long filled-in pedestrian tunnel, a previously unknown basement at a former masonic lodge, a horse watering fountain, American Indian artifacts, and several bottles dating as far back as the 1860s. The Western Pacific Railroad historically provided service to Reno, but never used this depot, instead using the now abandoned Nevada-California-Oregon Railroad Depot, a few blocks to the northeast.
On December 4, 2012, it was announced that the Station would be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Shots are around this historic depot both street level and track level. Enjoy!! Shot 7/27/14
(4/10/19) A Nevada trip - Railfanning Reno and Sparks
After my trip from NorCal me and my grandpa were on our way to Reno, NV to rent a Hotel which was the Circus Circus Hotel and of course the inside of the Hotel was pretty beautiful but as we get started on what I did on April 10th I went to Sparks Yard to get some photos of the freight trains that were passing through Sparks Yard like the BNSF , UP and Amtrak but only the Amtrak California Zephyr was only coming to Reno, NV in the afternoon but then again my first train at Sparks Yard was a BNSF mixed freight that was leading through Sparks and Reno but it was just a BNSF foreign power leading a freight and after that I went on the other side to see and catch some more trains that were sitting on a siding so the trains that I caught was the UP C44-9W , C41-8W , ACE , ACE Tier 4 , SD60M’s , SD40-2 and many more that were sitting at Sparks on the siding and after that a UP freight stacker was passing through Reno and Sparks that was coming from Oakland, CA which was heading Eastbound down the tracks and into the desert of Nevada and right after the UP freight stacker passed through Reno and Sparks a little later me and my grandpa were driving to Reno Station which is an Amtrak Station for train #6 and #5 that is either bound from Sacramento and to Chicago too and as I was saying we both got to Reno Station to see my first California Zephyr that was heading to Chicago, Il and we waited until it was departing Truckee, CA and then right down the tracks with a headlight’s on was Amtrak 163 leading train #6 the California Zephyr which I was excited to see my first California Zephyr heading to Chicago, Il and right when Amtrak 163 pulled train #6 the California Zephyr into Reno Station I had chance to get at least one shot of Amtrak 163 pulling the Zephyr into Reno Station while it was so cold outside of the Station and the city too and clearly it would have been snowing in the mountains during spring of course but anyway Amtrak 163 pulls train #6 the California Zephyr into Reno Station and comes to a complete full stop so I ran to the front of the train to get some pictures of Amtrak 163 leading the Zephyr while waiting for passengers to get on board the train and carry their belongings on board the train and after all the passengers were all on board the train Amtrak 163 starts to get ready for departure to head to Chicago, Il after departing Reno Station Amtrak 163 pulls train #6 the California Zephyr out of Reno Station to head all the way to Chicago, Il and I did had some fun time seeing my first California Zephyr that was heading to Chicago, Il and that after my Auntie came to pick me up and had lot’s of fun going to the movies and going to the old train station that is a train station today and it is also owned by my Auntie’s friend as well surprisingly but then again I went inside the old train station which is a restaurant and a train station today and it’s still being used but not for passenger train sadly but I did had lot’s of fun taking lot’s of pictures of the old train station that is a restaurant and the name of the restaurant and a train station is called the depot and yet it is a very old train station but it was remodeled into a restaurant at the same time of course and after going to the depot we went to go back to Reno Station again to see if any trains were coming but sadly not but it was really amazingly great having so much fun exploring and traveling through two States which is California and Nevada and I hope to do this amazing exploring traveling events again for a trip to the NorCal and to Nevada and I hope you enjoy watching this video everyone. ENJOY!
Thank you for watching!

Reno is a city in the U.S. state of Nevada, located in the western part of the state, approximately 22 miles from Lake Tahoe. Known as The Biggest Little City in the World, Reno is famous for its hotels and casinos. It is the county seat of Washoe County, in the northwestern part of the state. The city sits in a high desert at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and its downtown area (along with Sparks) occupies a valley informally known as the Truckee Meadows. It is named after slain Union Major General Jesse L. Reno.
Reno is the third-most populous city in Nevada after Las Vegas and Henderson and the most populous city in the state outside the Las Vegas Valley. Before the late 1950s, Reno was the gambling capital of the United States, but Las Vegas' rapid growth, American Airlines' 2000 buyout of Reno Air, and the growth of Native American gaming in California have reduced its business. Older casinos were torn down (Mapes Hotel, Fitzgerald's Nevada Club, Primadonna, Horseshoe Club, Harold's Club, Palace Club), or smaller casinos like the Comstock, Sundowner, Golden Phoenix, Kings Inn, Money Tree, Virginian, and Riverboat were either closed or were converted into condos.
Because of its location, Reno has traditionally drawn the majority of its California tourists and gamblers from the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, while Las Vegas has historically served more tourists from Southern California and the Phoenix area.
Several local large hotel casinos have shown significant growth and have moved gaming further away from the downtown core. These larger hotel casinos are the Atlantis, the Peppermill and the Grand Sierra Resort. The Peppermill was chosen as the most outstanding Reno gaming/hotel property by Casino Player and Nevada magazines. In 2005, the Peppermill Reno began a $300 million Tuscan-themed expansion.

Why Ride a Train from Reno to Denver?
Have you heard of riding cross-country trains from city to city? Who does that anymore...I thought that was a thing of the 1950's, but apparently people still choose this mode of transportation.
For that very reason, my boy and Denver rapper Mazo Books, jumped on the rail line from Reno, Nevada back out to Denver, Colorado for one of the most unique travel experiences I've ever had. Not only was it a 25 hour journey with all people 50 years older than us, but we got hooked up in one of the deluxe cabins. It was basically the king's suite, which even had the pooper shower. Take a look at our journey. If you ever have no time obligations with traveling, give the old school way of travel a shot.

Reno Nevada, Late Night Fun...Back to the Five Star Saloon
We had so much fun Friday night at the Five Star Saloon we decided to go back late Saturday night. I was also running out of functioning camera equipment and was down to my old dependable Sony DCR-DVD650. Travelling, videoing, converting and uploading video is tremendously taxing on equipment, and computers, and I certainly learned it on this trip.

Amtrak's California Zephyr, #5 passes UP trailer train at street level in Reno, NV
As the past the Sands Hotel, a West bound Amtrak #5 with 3-328-22 is leaving the station in Reno, and is about to meet a short UP trailer train powered by a UP and C&NW locomotives. The railroad runs in a trench under the city, so this shot is impossible to get anymore.
